Protesters in the streets of Cairo are calling for Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to leave, chanting in unison "we don't want him."

Worst possible move he could have made if he wanted to stay in power.

It emboldens the protestors- now that Mubarak is seen as being vulnerable and willing to take steps to quell the protests, more will join the throngs in the street.

Couple that with the fact that this is easily dismissed as a sop to the protestors in an attempt to quiet them without doing anything substantive, and Egypt's in for a very interesting weekend.

What I worry about is when Mubarak is forced out or steps down, the Muslim Brotherhood will take over. THAT's gonna get real ugly, real quick.

I saw that speech and thought,"This guy is old, entrenched and unable to fully comprehend his time has gone. Bet the people aren't too pleased about this. Wonder if anyone is even trying to get through to this guy that he isn't going to win this?"

The Grim Sleeper: That won't stop the protests. We'll see how long he lasts.

It really depends on how loyal the military and police are to him. From the pictures we've been seeing out of the area, I'd say BARELY loyal at best.

We shall see.

Substantive is a noun.

But that's impossible! How will he maintain control without the bureaucracy?

The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line.

I'm thinking Iran is wetting their pants with excitement... If the Muslim Brotherhood takes over things don't look good at all.

This is all leading to a Barack Obama swerve and radical Muslim heel turn.

"Mah Gawd... Barack Bottom on America!! Barack Bottom!!"

Ikhwan Muslimun (Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood) Islam is the solution.
The brotherhood is part of the people. The people are demanding the basics - mainly the necessities of life - and they have the right to do so. The people also demand their freedom and the dissolution of the fake parliament.

Irshad Manjji has been saying some interesting things on CNN tonight. Anyone know what she is talking about that Obama went against a pro-democracy in Egypt group that Bush supported and gave Mubarak his full support against that? I haven't heard of that till she said something about it.

I think we have a new rule for a drinking game. Drink everytime Mubarak dissolves a government agency.

And - the wild card that troubles Western policy-makers most - could the Muslim Brotherhood, the country's Islamist opposition movement, somehow exploit the protests to come to power?

Right now, that scenario seems far-fetched. The Brotherhood is trying to jump on the bandwagon of a youthful and largely leaderless protest movement.

They are not in front. They are trying to catch up.

Just to be sure, because I'm not, you are familiar with the history of the Muslim Brotherhood and haven't just heard the name recently on Fox News right?

Just sayin'. It could be worse.
