Obviously it wasn't the burning out her brain that did it, it was the pinball machine. This study is flawed.

bongmiester: that's a big ear

that was my first thought too but I think the camera angle and lens combined with that cap are causing our eyes to fill in quite a few blanks sending a deceiving message to our brain.

FTFA:
"But, by the same token, one can imagine that, had this miraculous neurosurgery existed just a few years earlier, someone like the writer David Foster Wallace might still be with us."

So... a mixed blessing. That's what you're saying?

2011-01-25 02:30:22 PM
And they used Congress for testing the procedure.

Nonsense. The Addams Family is a great pinball machine. One of the few pinball machines to admit to using electromagnets to mess with the player.

Ah, that would explain why it is blocked here as well.

This involved burning out connections in the brain that were too active.

Ha ha dude I am way, way, waayyyyyy ahead of ... hee hee... um... yeah, what were you saying?

A cingulotomy is very different than a lobotomy. Subby needs to look these things up before sending them to FARK.

I think if your doctor promises to lobotomize your depression away with a medical device that coincidentally looks exactly like an Addam's Family pinball machine, HE MIGHT NOT BE A REAL DOCTOR.

Not in my experiences amaranthe and I've done an awful lot of research on it.

You've just had a heavy session of electroshock therapy, and you're more relaxed than you've been in weeks. All those childhood traumas magically wiped away, along with most of your personality. Now is the time, time for Spud.

snltranscripts.jt.org

Filled with the full, rich flavor of potatoes. Spud, the beer brewed for people who can't taste the difference.

I miss that pinball game. Apparently it's one of the most expensive for the home hobbyist to purchase. And due to rights issues it hasn't been digitized.

I loved that game. That and Funhouse.

I never understood the "suicidal thoughts" part of the depression equation. I know I'm weird, but I think of interesting ways to kill myself all the time. With few exceptions in my life, I've never really thought I was depressed.

Is there compulsion involved, planning? Do other people just never think about death?

2011-01-25 02:53:23 PM
I think the pinball machine is more of the test to see if they've burned all the depression out of her brain yet.

"Look at the pinball machine. Do you want to play it?"
YES - "You're cured!"
NO - BZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTT
