Was he wearing a yellow star?
Do they have "Juden" on their licenses in that state?
How would the officer have known he was a Jew?

Wait, a policy brutality case from a southern state.. and the victims are -white-?

Oh, wait, false alarm, they're jewish

/not racist, I just seem to notice it's minorities that get the beatings, and white people that walk away from what -would- be beatings for others.

Sometimes, people with dementia can get quite hostile and aggressive.

Also, numerous studies reveal that women are just as likely as men, if not more likely, to use physical aggression in interpersonal conflict.

So when I hear about stories like this, I don't automatically assume ZOMG POLICE BRUTALITY! Don't dismiss the possibilities that this woman had an episode of teh crazy, or that she's had a habit of getting a pass every time she slaps a man ... until she slapped a cop.

Well, she may have back-sassed the officer in which case he was justified in beating the crap out of her to avenge his wounded pride.

Because a real man wouldn't beat up an old lady but that same can't be said for a policeman.

Jewish star and or other religious items in the home the cops went to might have been a clue.

If the woman had not pushed, kicked and scratched state troopers, we would not be having this conversation. Champ.

Every physical confrontation with the cops is going to be one-sided. Eventually. I don't like them either. But I don't resist them, and I don't get my ass kicked.

It's completely possible (probable, even) that the woman and her family are sweetening the story to make themselves look better; however, holding to the attitude of "I don't resist them, and I don't get my ass kicked" is just as troubling, imho.

Considering this happened in West Virginia, in MERCER County, which is worse than the most retarded Florida town in many ways, I have to side with the officers. I have no doubt that this lawsuit is a sham to attempt to get out of a 3 year prison stretch minimum (after the plea deal), for each of them. Which is what they deserve.

They could be attempting the mafia angle, too. "I'm too sick to go to jail...I'm such a snowflake". The only thing assinine is the lawsuit approach. I hope the state takes it all since they decided to gamble. Zero Tolerance for Violence against LEO.

Take the total number of police-civilian interactions this study represents, and determine which side is more likely to be killed. When a police officer interacts with a civilian, who is in more danger purely because of the interaction?

According to that study a civilian is SEVEN farkING TIMES more likely to die as a result of the interaction than the police officer.

You badge lickers and hero-complex LEOs can take "This job is dangerous" and shove it right up your self-righteous ass. It is seven times more dangerous to be a civilian near a police officer than it is to be a police officer near a civilian.

Oh don't worry, they're trained to tackle intransigent "suspects" with at least three officers, so that the officers all pull on the subject in different ways and interpret the other officers' pulls as the subject resisting. That way all three can repeatedly yell 'Stop resisting!' and then beat the shiat out of the subject and/or claim "We had four guys on him trying to restrain him and he went for all four of our guns at once so our weapons discharged and the asshole resisted our bullets too, so we pepper sprayed him! He was still resisting so we shot him again, then luckily the more tired we got the less he resisted until finally he was docile enough for us to let the paramedics examine him. Now I have to go tell the family of Deputies Nine Millimeter and Forty Caliber that they won't be coming home tonight."

The lawsuit claims that during the car ride, an officer said to Harry Deakins, "you're a Nazi skinhead, racist Jew boy..."

This is how I know this actually happened closer to the citizens description.

This is what I expect racist cops to do, mix up the racial slurs, Most Nazi's are not jews, except in cop minds.

I actually had some tazings in after the initial "bullets were discharged from the officers' guns" event, but replaced it with something else. Let's just assume the tazing as a natural response to anything other than "YESSIR" or "NOSSIR" coming out of a civilian's mouth?

I sure am glad they have a less-lethal alternative for their pain-compliance needs.

I'm no cop-hater, but given what information we have, I have to side with the "nazi skinhead racist jew-boy" on this one.

Most of the cops from Sulphur Springs to Beckley to Princeton HATE anyone who's not a white American "good-ole-boy" with the proper accent. This includes northerners, long-haired folk, blacks, hispanics, jews, and especially any folks who moved in from Virginia.

I've dealt with Mercer County cops before, and "nazi skinhead racist jew-boy" is definitely something one of their more ... colorful ... members would say. Plus, they can be some vindictive bastards when they want to be.

Going from the poorly-written article, the full sequence of events seems like this...

Feb 2010
* Son gets a restraining order on him, and his wife comes to get her car, but she takes two cars instead of the one she was supposed to.
* Dad finally convinces the cops that the second car actually belongs to him, but they refuse to help him get his stolen property returned.
* Family files a complain that results in an IA investigation of one of the officers involved.
April 2010
* I'm going to take a leap of faith and assume that the Deakins family attempted to get their car back themselves after being denied police assistance, which resulted in the arrest warrant. They're idiots for doing that, especially if they busted the car window out like the warrant says they did.
* The events the article is concerned with happen.
May 2010
* IA investigation finds all involved officers innocent, and the cops keep the computers they removed from the home.

There's not a lot of laudable behaviour from any of the involved parties, IMO. Regardless of the provocation, a police officer should not drag an unarmed wheelchair-bound woman from her chair all the way out to his car. He could more easily handcuff her to the chair and wheel her out. I can ignore the rest of it, but that is just wrong.

There's two big things that make me side with them, though...
1.) The events in the article happened while an officer was being investigated based on a complaint filed by Mr. Deakins.
2.) They turned down a personal-injury lawsuit.

Honestly, they should call the ACLU if they actually want to win, instead of filing the suit themselves.

I can't believe any of the people commenting on the website or this one believe the family. That is the biggest crock of shiat I ever read in my entire life. They would have you believe the cops are 6'10" and can bench press 2000 lbs and are burning on 'roid rage. Pure and simple, that family is full of shiat. If you believe that story, just the description alone would mean they are all completely dead from the "assault". And nooooby really talks like that...."get your whore ass off the floor", I mean seriously.
Trooper "became enraged and incensed at Mrs. Deakins, forcefully grabbed her handcuffs and dragged her backwards towards the back door and out onto the back porch". This is the woman who can't walk, so they would have you believe they dragged her caveman style by the hands through the house, bumping down the stairway and down the side walk to the car. "The trooper then dragged her to his cruiser and slung her inside". So he picked her up off the ground and threw her into a car....and she lived through all of that. What is Jewish for "you're full of shiat"? I don't even believe that mugshot photo. I've never been to jail, but is it typical that they hand you your mugshot photo on the way out like a souvenir even when they plan on slipping a different photo in that doesn't show you in distress?
