kilgorn: GaryPDX: Yea, that'll last about 3 days. Palin's derp is too powerful for the left to resist.

Yes....

The unfortunate thing about this is, she has a 1000 gigawatt microphone. Gary, if you think she's a shallow vapid empty douchenozzle, please petition Fox Snooze to stop broadcasting her trollop droppings.

Corvus: Why shouldn't people talk about her? She makes public speeches she makes public announcement to the press, she helps fun politicians. Why shouldn't we talk about and criticize her public remarks and actions?

Well, maybe you guys would have better luck if you supported fun politicians too. Nobody likes the boring ones. Call it a byproduct of our 24/7 news cycle I guess.

nrdgrl: I know! Let's declare February "Don't Mention Sarah Palin" month! Make sure you mention it on your blogs, and FB/social networking events all month long so others can know that you are not mentioning Sarah Palin and maybe they will play along, too! In fact, we should all change our FB statuses to "I'm ignoring Sarah Palin" and change our profile pics to a some picture of Sarah Palin! It'll be so great getting her out of our collective consciousness, even if it's just for one tiny month! I'm so looking forward to thinking about not thinking about Sarah Palin for the entire month of February!!

//!!!

Yep. The absurdity of this stupid pledge is self-evident. Dana Milbanks has nothing else to write about. So, he writes about how he won't write about someone he doesn't want to write about. Yet, that's all his article was; a writing about Sarah Palin. Posted to his readers who will read the article because it is about Sarah Palin. The hypocrisy is pretty high.

The day the media stops talking about Sarah Palin is the same day they stop talking about all the pop starlets (Britney and Lindsay, etc.). It'll never happen.

I feel ridiculous even referring to these columnists as journalists.

2011-01-21 07:47:00 PM
I think we should do this for ALL media whores left and right. When they say something/do something insanely stupid or offensive, we shouldn't give them oxygen. Like Limbaughs ching-dong-wing-wong routine the other day. Don't cover it. None of them. If they do something that is newsworthy, then fine. What that would be I have no idea, since we seem to talk about them because they're famous and they're famous because we talk about them, like the kardashians or paris hilton. but if they did it, then it would be ok to cover it. Now yes, this might let them off the hook when they do somethign racist (see the ching-chong-wong-dong routine above) but generally speaking most of the shiat is jsut stupid or aid to generate press. i.e. anything Michelle Malkin or Coulter says. With politicians it's a bit harder because if they're talking about policy or bills they want to draft, well that *is* news...

Barakku : Empty Signal Gray: Good, I guess. Honestly, the left seems to have a Palin fetish. This woman farts and every MSNBCer spends 10 minutes ranting about how "Satan Farted Today! Coming up, Dennis Kucinich, Chuck Schumer and Janeane Garfalo will join me to discuss what it must have smelled like!!! Fark. Most of what this lady says doesn't matter, and I lean conservative.

I do know one conservative that hangs on her every word. The rest of us, nope. Believe me, she's more a liberal creation than you realize.

Most of the conservative talk about her is defending certain absurdities posted about her, very little conservative talk I ever see (not that I watch most or much of it) is saying how great Palin is or that Palin has this awesome idea, it's almost unfailingly "hey, look what some dumbass said about Palin." I'm sort of in the same boat, I don't care for the woman but damn there's some stupid shiat out there about her. Leading up to the 2008 election it sounded like she could be an awesome candidate, out of no where a seemingly strong, female republican candidate. It wasn't to be.

I mostly agree. Again, I'm a conservative and I find myself agreeing with some of what Palin is "trying" to say. She's just not bright. And with talk radio, it depends on who you're hearing. Michael Medved, Dennis Praeger, Michael Savage, Dennis Miller and others simply don't take her seriously. But the fact is, she's become relevant. My point was that the more the left obsesses about her, the more sway she seems to have. The hateful sophmoric name-calling in a Fark thread is exactly what I'm talking about. Seriously, in the end she's just not that big a deal, unless her enemies keep making her one.

This article writing person is an idiot. First she writes 42 articles about Palin. There's no way to undo that and make it heroic. Now she's refusing to cover her at all even if it's actually news? Seems like there's some sort of weird love/hate obsession going on here. Kind of creepy. Oh and she could have just avoided writing about Palin, why did she need to write an attention whoring article to announce it first? Cover some news already.

It's amazing the the left is so obsessed with one person that they care what her husband has done. You have turned politics into USweekly.

Anecdotal evidence is the best kind of evidence. That's why Fox made her a regular contributor. It was for their liberal viewers.

Yeah, Fox puts her on, she babbles, she leaves. Then the left decides to parse everything she says. Suddenly, there's a controversy. The "blood libel" thing's a good example. What she said was pretty dead on, but, dammit, there has to be something we can use to start a fire. Why? Does this really not make sense to you?

What is it, I'm not trying to be antagonistic or confrontational here and I'm not looking for a flame war but what exactly is Sarah Palin saying or trying to say that you agree with?

As far as the "left" giving her some sort of power, she doesn't need that. She has thousands of followers flocking to her speaking engagements. So it's not the vitriol of the left giving her power. She already has that.

And I agree that the sophomoric name-calling is ridiculously juvenile. Whenever I read the word "libtard" I instantly discount whatever else the person has to say. I do see that sort of thing a lot more from the right than I do from the left though.

I'm neither a liberal nor a conservative. I'm a liberal on some things, conservative on others. That's not an ideology that is very well received by most farkers but I see it as a person who doesn't see things in black or white and certainly not a person who is bound by partisan bullshiat.

As for your "enemy" statement, Sarah Palin isn't my enemy. She's not Emperor Palpatine, she's not that smart. She's just someone who I don't want having the launch codes, that's all.

I'm a Centrist and won't watch Fox News, MSNBC or read political blogs. Sarah Palin's name gets mentioned on MSNBC more times, by orders of magnitude, than on Fox News. So, why are people on the Left so obsessed with her? Is there some psychological need Sarah Palin fills that I just can't understand? Don't tell me it's because she's an idiot, the world is full of idiots who don't get a tenth of one percent of the attention Palin does.

Why go to all the work of making mocking artwork, writing hundreds of blog entries and broadcasting critical news reports of Sarah Palin? She holds no political office and for that matter does she even have a steady job? Do people on the Left actually believe she has more than a snowball's chance of getting the Republican nomination for President and winning?

I think we're pretty much on the same side. Agreement comes with some general statements. Like the federal government's overreaching (which Bush really kicked into high gear, Obama just took the hand-off and ran). Also, her reaction to the weird blame the left levied after Tuscon was, I thought, quite coherent. But "Oh My God, She Said 'Blood Libel' Without Clearly Understanding The Historical Context!!!" became the story.

I disagree that Palin has any real power. She can be entertaining. She's hot. But a run in 2012 would be a slaughter. Any "real" power is an illusion, I think. Which is why I remain confused by the left's rabid, ugly obsession with her. Those on the right obsessed with her have their own issues.

By the way, I'm not looking to scrap, either. It's why I very rarely post. Calmish discussions don't seem welcome here. But some super funny people post on Fark, so there's that.

Who? Is that the orange girl from that MTV reality show? I hear about her a lot. And her name started with an "S". Must be the same person, I imagine. I'm really bad at this reality TV crap, though.

This benefits the right more than anyone. It's not like any of the coverage is flattering at all.

What was McCain thinking anyway?? Biden was a pretty terrible choice, but Palin ensured an Obama win in 08. Guess it worked out for me, I voted Obama, but we still have to deal with this idiot Palin for the forseeable (sp?) future.
