Poor poster didnt both to see teh funny
2003-07-16 01:11:32 AM
.....James Hetfield, when questioned, was direct and to the point:

/Metallica sucks
2003-07-16 01:13:50 AM
Holy crap, this isn't Satire?
2003-07-16 01:18:49 AM
How can this be true?

I didn't see any mention on
2003-07-16 01:28:52 AM
It does smell like BS. The links are not on the MTV or Metallica servers.

Attention whore anyone?

Anyway, the last thing anyone needs to do is give Lars any ideas.
2003-07-16 01:43:54 AM
Yeah servers are all wrong, even tho they did a good job making it look like metallica's page.

Nice try tho.
2003-07-16 01:47:31 AM
It's lame guerilla advertising for the (lame?) Canadian band mentioned in the story.
2003-07-16 02:41:11 AM
Yeah, NoSoul, the guy who wrote this, plays in Unfaith.
2003-07-16 06:37:32 AM
Coming soon: Metallica sues indie Canadian band for libel
2003-07-16 08:35:58 AM
Selloutica still sucks!
2003-07-16 09:16:19 AM
Yeah, that's about right. Still, who ever expected them to try and sue another band based on the "all their songs sound the same too" argument?
2003-07-16 09:29:39 AM
When you only know three of 'em, 33.333333% is a big bite outta yer pie!!!
2003-07-16 02:11:11 PM
I call bullshiat
2003-07-16 02:11:18 PM
If bands started sueing each other for sounding the same alternative rock would be wiped out.
2003-07-16 02:11:22 PM
Don't mods actually check the links they're sent anymore?

2003-07-16 02:12:00 PM
For once, and only once, I would side with 'talica if they sue for libel on this one. It would piss me off too
2003-07-16 02:12:32 PM
This IS a joke, isn't it?

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the article's fake, too.

/got nothin'
2003-07-16 02:12:39 PM
Ha!! Good prank!! Metallica are still a bunch of assholes notwithstanding.
2003-07-16 02:12:54 PM
It would've been better if Lars sued every drummer for every annoying double-bass drumfill since 1982...
2003-07-16 02:13:38 PM
bullshiat. looks like but is it?
2003-07-16 02:14:27 PM
I like how in their new video, they play in that prison like they're cool with the criminal element, but then do shiat like this.
2003-07-16 02:14:59 PM
Wrong tag.
Ergo, I now hate Unfaith and strongly encourage others never to listen to them.
2003-07-16 02:16:56 PM
Yeah, and monkeys just flew out of my ass.

I certainly hope whoever posted this didn't think it was true.

Although I have to say I'm impressed with the lengths someone went through to recreate MTV and Metallica's pages.

Oh, and they should have also done the @ trick to make it look like or something.
2003-07-16 02:17:21 PM
Looks like the MTV article got picked up from Sure looks like a satire site to me. This reminds me of when the Beijing News picked off an Onion story about Congress wanting to relocate to Alexandria unless they got better lighting, a better mix of day and night sessions, more seating and lower concession prices.

2003-07-16 02:17:23 PM
Well, if it's satire, Danish drum monkey & Company will then sue somebody for defamation of character. Of course, any character they had died in a tour bus in Europe, but hey, it doesn't seem like they remember him anyway.
2003-07-16 02:17:23 PM
moron uses tag yet the article doesnt even link to a source.... how abuout we change the poster's bio to a "dumbass" tag
2003-07-16 02:17:37 PM
Most definitely fake seeing as the links to and actually go to pages on designed to look like the MTV and Metallica webpages.

And if you didn't figure that one out then there's this lovely piece of real estate in Brooklyn I'm looking to get rid of...
2003-07-16 02:19:22 PM
I posted the link.

There will be a follow-up to this with some unbelievable comments found all over the internet, spreading like wildfire as we speak. There has even been a formal request from Rolling Stone to do a story (no lies), and several radio station websites have run with it.

Whether it's how dangerous the internet can be, or how Metallica have actually put themselves in a position where people wouldn't put this past them... there was a subtle point to this, as there usually tends to be with most parodies.

Hope you enjoyed it nonetheless!

Well now Lars CAN sue them. For slander, IP rights (copying the metallica webpage)and MTV can sue for copying their webpage.

However, I stand behind my original statement before I knew it was satire, that I want them all to die in an tragic, food related accident.
2003-07-16 02:20:04 PM
Let me get this straight. Lars Ulrich is the drummer for Metallica. And he's talking about E and F chords?!?! What the fudge does a drummer know about music and scales and chords? He needs to E and F-off!

/knows it is just satire, just playing along
2003-07-16 02:23:54 PM
O thank goodness this was satire...I was gonna fly of the handle...and then go play the E and F chords repeatedly...daring Lars to sue me.
2003-07-16 02:23:58 PM
I hate Lars and his pretentious Eurofaggy accent.
He also sucks as a drummer...

Listen to Slayer, better band.
2003-07-16 02:26:13 PM
On behalf of the estate of Johann Sebastian Bach, I am suing both Metallica and unfaith for using a 12-tone scale to create their music.

My client's innovations were a profound step forward from the near-monotony (in the literal sense of one tone) of Gregorian Chants (all rights reserved by the estate of Pope Gregory).

To prevent confusion and stem a potential tide of further litigation, we have obtained the licensing rights to the concept of "music" from the collective estates of the Cave People who used to rhythmically bang rocks together.
2003-07-16 02:26:27 PM
fluffy2097, no, they can't. Satire/parody is protected.
2003-07-16 02:26:49 PM
stop posting stupid ass bullshiat lies
2003-07-16 02:27:14 PM
Admit it NoSoul, you got the idea from story:
"Microsoft patents Ones, Zeros."
2003-07-16 02:29:43 PM
Even if it was true, it would never stick.

Def. Satire

Metallica Now Seeking Damages For People Taking Unsanctioned Craps

"People are going to get on our case again for this, but try to see it from our point of view just once," stated whiny little biatch Lars Ulrich. He adds that they're not saying they own poop in general - "that would be ridiculous" - just that in this specific context, people have grown to associate crap with their music, and its continued approximation in the same song causes "confusion, deception and other reasons why we want money for nothing."
2003-07-16 02:32:17 PM
Site just screams, "Woohoo! Look at me! I'm a farkin' HTML wizard!!!"

Never has so much effort been expended for so few laughs.
2003-07-16 02:33:36 PM
"We are fighting this fight for our fans, who don't deserve to be subjected to this confusion... just as we appreciate their support through this."

I don't think the fact that another band is using the same two cords is going to confuse me. It's not like the whole world can't tell what is and is not Metallica.

The Canadian Band sHEAVY sounds just like Black Sabbath, (even though they write their own music) but there's no law suit being hurled at them.
2003-07-16 02:33:56 PM
Can you really blame people for believing this is true though?
2003-07-16 02:34:09 PM
Was this in fact just a publicity stunt by the Canadian band? If so, it was clever, I guess, in a please-sue-the-hell-out-of-me way.
2003-07-16 02:34:54 PM
I hat* M*tallica so *ucking much.
Now I won't b* abl* to sp*ll my *avoutir* w*bsit*, *

*uck you, Lars
you gr**dy moth*r *uck*r
2003-07-16 02:36:32 PM
Today's metallica lawsuit brought to you by the chords E and F, the snare drum, and the use of a microphone for recording vocals.
2003-07-16 02:38:37 PM
clever satire, but probably just a not-so-obvious attempt by the Canadian band in question to get some name exposure.

Then again Metallica's been out of the news since, oh, the new sucky album came out and put everyone to sleep so maybe they're the ones looking for exposure.
2003-07-16 02:38:54 PM
NoSoul: Your band sucks.

Even with free promotion by pulling a retarded stunt like this, you will still be serving me "Pommes frites" on my next visit to Montreal.

Seeing as you 'own' a design company, I'm surprised at how shiat your Unfaith logo is.

BTW: Ms. Ashley owns
2003-07-16 02:38:57 PM
Never saw that story, micke, but it was funny. :) Thanks for the link.

As for this whole Metallica issue... I think everyone needs to calm down a bit. ScoopThis "about us" docs clearly indicate everything on that site is fake. And I wouldn't put it past Lars to actually email me and tell me how he approves of the parody because it exposes how gullible many on the internet are, including legit news sites that are running with the story. I am proving a point FOR him as much as I am doing anything else.

And if he wants to sue, okay. What will the headlines read then? "Metallica sue parody author over gag making fun of how much they like to sue?" Are you kidding me?

As far as using my own band in the article... hey, Unfaith has NOTHING TO SELL. No one is going to make a cent off this.

Just enjoy the gag and move on. Or sit back and watch it take on a life of its own :)
2003-07-16 02:41:20 PM
Since metallica is so limited in talent, it wouldn't suprise me if they really did take some rediculous action. Suing fans...come on!
