Also, AFAIK plans are coming together. The Dallas Morning News will run a story tomorrow (Friday). They have interviewed AlienNarr!, Praise Cheesus and Domari.
One of us will post the link when it shows up.

At this point the two auctions are still up.

reddot's is here (new window) and at the time of this post has 1 day and 15 hours left.

I have one up here (new window) and at this time there are 2 days and 23 hours left.

I'm sure QJ will have more details when he shows up.

(From the redlit thread:) I have a new Percy picture to post. For any newcomer, Percy is an incredibly photogenic cat owned by a friend of mine. I'll occasionally post a pic and offer a month's TF sponsorship for the best caption. This Caturday is one of those days.

I have to say, this story is disturbing to me. I find it hard to believe he NEVER comes down. What, does he just poo & pee out of the tree, like a bird? He's old enough for the hormones to be kicking in; you can't tell me he's not going to go looking for love. The guy isn't doing the cat any favors; salami & meatloaf is not exactly a healthy diet for a cat. He needs his shots, and neutering, too. Especially rabies.

I was beginning to wonder if we were EVER going to get a Caturday greenlight!

Yay, Caturday!

UPDATE:

I could not catch the stray calico that was running around on my porch. I kept feeding her, but couldn't catch her. So I called Humane Society, and they told me to have Animal control come set a trap. They did. I was on the porch smoking,(yeah I know), and she came up on the porch. I sat real still and she would not go near the trap, but kept licking the empty food bowl that I used for her. So I got up, she ran, I came in the house, and got food, put it in the bowl, and shook the bowl. She came right up to it and I grabbed her. I brought her in the house, and she was real friendly. Climbing all over us, and everything. My cat, however was NOT pleased. They had a 20 minute stand off. I never knew cats could growl just like a dog. When I went to bed, I put her in the spare bedroom with litter, and shut the door. I got up and called Animal Control the next morning, and they came and picked her up. They were taking her to the Humane Society, and now I have to wait 4 days to see if she is healthy and adoptable. Here is the big dilemma though. My husband says I can not have the cat, unless she gets front declawed. I have a real issue with this. I do not want her declawed. He does. I am at my wits end as to what I should do. Help!

Here is the cat...

Lol! Sorry to keep people in suspense :) Oh, and conga-rats to Cosmic!

I'm currently feeling like a failed new-cat parent. I had emailed domari a week or two ago about an issue that popped up between Caturdays and she gave me some advice that seemed to work for a while. Now the issue has popped up again. It's actually a 2-part issue.

The slightly easier part is: I'd love some more ideas for how to keep Cassie from scratching furniture and carpeting. She has two scratching things (we have a VERY small apartment). I've nipped both of the scratching things and actually sprayed the side of the couch with Bitter Yuck for lack of something else to try. I even moved one scratcher in front of the area of the couch she scratches. She does use the scratchers, but still uses furniture and the carpet, regardless of the redirects, yells, sprays with water, etc. In addition she's using those claws to beat the h*ll out of Lars. His face has several scratches and he's obviously worried about being near Cassie - he slinks out of the bedroom and moves very slowly if he sees her. He also spends a lot of time in hiding. I feel so badly for my little boy! Sometimes they get along great, but other times she's incredibly mean to him - often when I'm not home because she knows I'll squirt her with water if I catch her. I can't afford Feliway (and the time I tried it before Lucy died, it didn't seem to impact their behavior). She also tries to ambush him when he's using the litter box or just coming out from using it. I've been trying to discourage it, but I'm not sure it's helping, as she tried to do it again this morning. Also, when she gets riled up she gets mean toward her people - she's scratched and bit me and the guy just for trying to pet her - and she bites HARD. Usually not enough to go through the skin, but it still hurts! We've warned the kid to be very careful when around Cassie because we don't want her to get bitten or scratched.

Second problem: Occasionally Cassie refuses to pee in the litter box. It's not all the time, but I can't figure out what triggers the bad behavior. The first time I noticed it, I brought in a second litter box and that helped for a week or so. Then she stopped using it again, so I bought a second kind of litter to mix in and that helped for a while. I've also started scooping the litter box 3-5 times a day and have put baking soda in it on the off chance she doesn't like that Lars is using the same litter box (I have no options for a box just for her that he can't get to). If she keeps it up, the guy has said we'll have to get rid of her, which breaks my heart. However, we can't afford to replace all the carpeting in this apartment and it's not healthy for the kid or us to have her doing that. We currently can't afford a vet bill (I had to borrow money from my mom to just get the bills payed this month) and she doesn't appear to be showing any other symptoms of a possible UTI. She is very careful to always use the box for pooping, and always buries it well, so that makes me think it's not a litter issue. I have wondered if it's an attention thing, since she only does it randomly. The guy commented this might be the reason she was a stray - she's overly affectionate and careful to rarely use claws on people when she's playing, so we think she might have had a home before.

Sorry that was so long, but I really am at my wits end with all of this. I don't think I can emotionally handle having to get rid of her - it hasn't been that long since we lost Lucy. I can see my guy's point (and he's dealt with two other cats who ruined furniture and carpeting with urination issues that couldn't be explained - which cost quite a bit of money). I also feel so badly for my Lars... he seems miserable and I don't know how to fix it. Help!!!

Faced with that choice, here is what I'd do; I would do my darndest not to fall in love with her. Then, I would try to help the Humane Society find a home where she could keep her claws. In the meantime, I would 'sponsor' Chloe by offering food and medical support (spay) until she gets a new home.

We have two female cats here and they both have their claws. We have those cardboard scratching things scattered throughout the house and they seem to prefer those to the furniture or wood work. Having cats with claws doesn't have to be a bad thing.

We have two exciting events coming up: Obviously, one is the Alien Invasion Tour. But in all of the excitement, we might have forgotten about Crystal's kittens, who might be entering the world even as you read this. We had a lot of fun guessing about Vanna's litter, but this time, we need to support the Tour!! LittleMews has authorized me to propose and keep track of something different this time.

Pledges!! We want you to pledge based on the type of kittens Crystal has. For example, in honor of Rose and Valerie, I am pledging $10 for each calico/tortie, and $10 for each orange tabby, with an extra $10 each for any Siamese pattern. We're only going for coat color and pattern--no sex, eye color or number in the litter. I'm going to keep the toteboard, and check in to report the data from time to time. Feel free to invent your own challenges! You are honor bound to to make good your pledge at LittleMews when the newbies are announced, but you don't have to wait if you just want to give:
Little Mews (new window)

Below are two things to aid your choice--a photo of the happy mother (as usual, we haven't a clue as to the dad) and a link to help you to consider the options. Even if you can't pledge, you might like this chart. It shows every possible cat color and pattern, complete with eye and nose/paw pad color possiblities. If you're like me and enjoy geeking out over how orange coat color is inherited on the X chromosome, this is for you!! After careful study of this chart, I can conclude that Crystal is more than just a little bit Siamese--the eyes give it away.

Housecat Coat Colors Chart (new window)

I challenge anyone who has ever bottle-fed foster kittens, to pledge NOW!
