Big Bang was a rerun.

So... "Ow, My Balls" beat "Ow, my Balls *geeky reference, laughtrack*"?

I'd be more outraged if the Big Bang Theory was funnier and not polluted with the world's most obnoxious laugh track.

At least the volume of the laugh track isn't 680% higher than the dialogue as in will and grace. I couldn't even tell you if that show was any good because that turned me off from ever watching it. Point stands though. Last show with a laugh track that was tolerable was M*A*S*H.

That's not surprising, as "Ow my balls" is a significantly better show. I'd rather watch a video of kittens being set on fire than Big bang theory.

I have no idea who the second one is, but if she's the chick on Wipeout, she never does anything sexy and is wearing hazmat gear and the show is pretty much "Let's laugh at racial stereotypes of the Japanese while watching people fall down a lot!"

Big Bang Theory is terrible. You could insert the dialog in any other sitcom and it would fit perfectly. It's not a smart comedy or anything different. It's the Lady GaGa of TV shows.

What's funny is that there is no laugh track on the big bang theory. It's filmed in front of a studio audience. There have been several interviews and one of the cards that the creator does at the end of the show.

/Not a laugh track.

It's a Chuck Lorre sitcom so people are going to slam it but we all know they secretly watch and love it, they just want to give the illusion of superiority over the masses.

/Sitcoms are formulaic, they don't have to reinvent the wheel to be enjoyable.

I love this show and a buddy of mine got to attend one of the episodes filmed. He is a quite the whiny biatch about laugh tracks.. He did say that sometimes the laughter was so loud from the studio audience they had to stop the skit...CSB...Not to thread jack, but I also love Hawaii Five Oh

What does Wipeout have to do with Japan? Weird.
At first I too thought it was going to be "Ow, My Balls" but it is actually a really good show.

Do you know how sitcoms work? Live audience does not mean no laugh track is used. In fact, all sitcoms with a live audience do use laugh tracks because often times the take you're seeing broadcast is the 4th, 5th, 6th take of a scene, and the audience may not be laughing anymore, so previous laughs are used. There's no such thing as a studio-audience sitcom without a laugh track, and it just so happens that "BBT" is off-the-charts egregious in their liberal use of theirs. For every laugh, they turn it up to 11.

"Filmed in front of a studio audience" does not automatically mean that there's no laugh track. Plenty of shows shot live augment the laughs in editing.

Since it was a repeat, it's more like getting upset that people would rather go to McDonald's than eat from the recycling bin behind Burger King.

It's a blatant ripoff of "MXC" - the dubbed version of Takeshi's Castle (which I used to watch when I was stationed in Okinawa '89-90).

Vic Romano and Kenny Blankenship FTW.

There was a lawsuit, but I guess Disney paid off the judges. There is NO WAY Wipeout isn't a poor copy of what MXC did so awesomely.

It's modeled after the Japanese game shows. I think it's far worse than it could be. Didn't stop me from getting baked and watching it while reruns were on though.

Oh, for those not familiar with the brilliance of MXC, watch this. (new window)

Some very funny clips of the show.

I'm not going to say that big bang theory is never funny, but it is very much an average sitcom. I've seen only a handful of episodes, but none of them came off as authentic, and ultimately I was left with an increased hatred for geek culture, such as it is. The gay one is cool though.

People still watch TV?

Just kidding. Honestly, I was watching a premium channel or playing online. Why watch stereotypical geeks when I got my own geek life?

Now excuse me, I'm off to play Goldeneye 007 for the Wii.

No, Big Pile of Crap Theory is beloved because it panders to geeks.

It has a vanilla blonde, and a stereotypical geek who wears comic book shirts. So, it's automatically TEH BEST SHOW EVAR!!!11! among the mouthbreathing basement crowd.

There, now feel free to quote that with a big old "this" or rag on me.

Big Bang Theory was just renewed for three more seasons...

I don't understand people's issues with the laughter. It doesn't bother me at all. I hardly even notice it, because I'm laughing, too.

I've never watched Big Bang Theory, so I can't compare one show to the other. However, my four year old laughs maniacally at the people wiping out in Wipeout, so it's got that going for. If you can tell me that watching BBT will destroy his empathy for the suffering of others as effectively as Wipeout, maybe I'll give it a chance.

The Big Bang Theory is pretty much the Fark of sitcoms. It used to be amusing to people who actually got it, but nowadays it caters to the lowest common denominator and does the absolute minimum to make everyone think that because they got that fart joke, they're smart and different.

Huh, i didnt know it was an actual ripoff, i just assumed it was a legit MXC import/remake.

First things first: Big Bang Theory was a repeat and it *virtually* tied with Wipeout. For new episodes, it's frequently the highest rated scripted show on TV right now. Fine, the cultural elite of Fark don't approve it. I'm sure the people who work on the show cry themselves to sleep over that.

Second: For anyone who's never been in the audience of a highly rated show, the crowd....goes....nuts. I'm sure they do a certain amount of editing of crowd reactions, but I seriously doubt they need to do much sweetening for a show with a rabid fanbase such as this.
