Yeah I hear the mayor has a self entitled mentallity and does what ever he wants. Oh wait I got that from the article.

Typical small town leader mentality, I try to stay away from small towns, and when passing through I always do 1 mph slower then the speed limit, stop for a full 5 seconds at stop (and yield*) signs. I freaking hate some of these small town cops, they have real empowerment issues and love to waste your time and mess with you just for fun because they have no life. I highly encourage everyone with the means to fight any ticket received from one of these "police". Sure, they are real people and all, but they really don't matter much, and I just can't understand why a ticket from a small town cop is even valid. I mean really, what kind of life does a small town cop have? Or does he live in the bigger town not too far away? I also encourage anyone who drives through these to invest in an in-car camera system, or even a cheap hidden camera. I have a camera that looks like a pen, hit the button and it's on, just put on the dash and see what happens.

*Got pulled over once for not coming to a complete stop at a flashing YELLOW light, yes the cop was a dick and only wanted to harass someone, no ticket.

Got pulled over once for not coming to a complete stop at a flashing YELLOW light, yes the cop was a dick and only wanted to harass someone, no ticket.

Say what? When does anyone even slow down for a flashing yellow? He pulled you over because you made the attempt. You were driving like a nitwit so he wanted to see why.

General wisdom aside, in Ridgeland's case they're just going after the easy prey of traffic trundling through the "corridor of shame" on their way to Florida or the Northeast. People get these tickets weeks later at their home, hopefully hundreds of miles from the wasted, barren heart of this fine state.

See also: Emporia, VA. Greensburg County and Emporia own about 18 miles of I-95 in southern-most Virginia, and stuff that stretch with traffic cops. All the cars are new, surprise.

Sounds typical for a small town mayor. He probably walks around town acting like everyone is his best friend, then would stab them in the back if it benefited him. He probably has the standard "small town mayor" house, wife and kids, goes to church every Sunday, prays to God then yells and cusses out his wife on the way home. He makes sure they know that he is the one with the power, and he is the almighty one who continues to verbally abuse those who are close to him.

I think this prick needs some harassment from random farkers, nothing bad, just annoy the crap out of him. Mail him random items like a your used and soiled underwear, sign him up for random magazines and other subscriptions. Just enough to let him know that there are things that are out of his control, and he can't do anything about it because we don't follow his rules, nor are affected by his mickey mouse "police" force of dumb dumb babies.

Second on the Emporia comment.....hated driving through there on both I-95 and on Rt. 52.

Another SC town notorious for this crap? West Pelzer (south of Greensville/Spartanburg). My wife's grandmother lives there.....cops are well known for not only strict enforcement of everything, but following cars with out of state plates..."just to be safe". And yes - brand new, fully tricked-out Dodge Charger police car, usually found hiding next to the fire station, behind the sign welcoming you to West Pelzer .....wonder where that funding came from?

I know it's all about revenue, and out of staters pay up most of the time, especially with the mailed tickets. For the cops that actually pull people over, I bet they "hold" their licenses and give the drivers some paper in place of it until they get payment (happened to me once).

I have an idea, for any ticket that someone gets from a small town cop, no matter what it's for, your fault or not. Sign up the cop for gay magazines, have his name on it like "John Smith - Rainbow coalition" or something like that.

For those thinking the mayor might just blow off paying the fine, our state just deducts the money from the taxes they collect and send to the city.

Our city was administratively fined for high bacteria count downstream of our multimillion dollar sewage plant. We didn't have a release and had test results to prove it. In addition, the city discovered a farmer across the creek had released hog wastes. We refused to pay. State withheld $10,000 from our sales tax payment. This is taxes collected from sales in our city that are sent into the state by our merchants. It is our money.

State said they could not go on his property. Could not get a search warrant. Could not prosecute because it was too small a matter. But they didn't give us back our $10,000. First I was astonished. Then when the money really wasn't returned, I said two can play at this game. I decided not to waste time and money fighting. Over the remaining seven years of my term, I screwed the state on every grant and program we had going. The city got $10,000 back many times over. They have pathetic controls and fools administering their programs.

This mayor on speed traps needs to be slapped down, however, when the state passes ex post facto laws I have to wonder if they are going to let the city challenge or just cut off the flow of the city's own funds without a court order.
