I bet he always envied Lisa Olsen in the Zeke Mowatt incident. Subby makes a good point, but I would have bet on Michael Felger.

Good for him. I still think it's sad that it has to be a big deal to tell people whether you like innies or outies, but I suppose we're getting there slowly but surely.

Yeah, I wonder how this is going to play on the radio station he works at. It is sort-of a "jock" radio station isn't it.

Since he's a journalist at a paper, thats probably no big deal.

I know when I listened to a lot of sports talk, for every 1 intelligent, reasoned show there were 3 that were fart jokes and subtle gay bashing.

Don't insult the homosexual community by lumping the curly haired biatch in with them.

Came out as a Yankees fan?

I fail to see how this is even relevant. I don't read the guys column but unless he's been talking about banging the Patriots cheerleaders in his columns he should just report the news. Unless it's a slice of life column or something like the Sports Guy writes, in which case carry on.

That's what I thought. Gay is one rung up from that in Boston

Why was this printed in the Sports section? Who cares?

This. Being gay isn't a big deal. Being Dan Shaughnessy is an afront to sports and good taste.

Not Peter King? Oh, he's from Springfield.

Given where Buckley works, the Herald and WEEI (not exactly bastions of tolerance) and his job, sadly it IS a big deal. It's been interesting radio so far. It's been great radio.

2011-01-06 04:35:13 PM
Meanwhile, Peter King opens his closet door, readjusts the Favre jersey on the hanger, and as the acoustic guitar swells he closes the door. End scene.

I guess I've kind of buried the lead here

That's what he said.

Fabulous. Now get out of the sports section and start reviewing day time TV.

That's what I heard from someone on another board who's actually worked for this guy.

Wonder how they'll handle the news.

You're kidding yourself if you think there aren't any gay players. Of course there are, and a lot of the guys on the team know it.

You obviously haven't been in a locker room. . .

Well, I'm guessing the Tim Hardaway interview is off the table. That's assuming anyone is interested in what Tim Hardaway thinks.

Especially in Boston. Even their St Paddy's day parade has turned into a St Peters day parade.

Whether or not the local sportswriter is gay means absolutely nothing to me. My question is why isn't he writing about sports?

How old are you? Serious question. A lot of people my generation - even athletes! - just don't give a fark if you're gay or not. And athletes are young people. Sure, there are some homophobes, probably in even higher concentration than outside the locker room, but I think you're really out of touch with the times.

Good for him but why do I care if he's gay or not? It's like a LPGA player coming out as straight. It's a minority, for sure, but how was this affecting his livlihood? Were there rumors he had to squash?

I wanted this to be Bill Simmons. I know of know straight male who claims to watch as much "Real World/Road Rule" type shows as that guy claims and he has Boston sports team's collecting crank deep in the back of his throat in everyone of his articles.

I've heard Kirk Herbstreit talk about "The Hills" more than once.

It's not news; we knew Bill Simmons had been fellating tom Brady for years.

He writes about sports because, this will shock you, he loves sports and knows a lot about the subject. Which is a breath of fresh air, honestly, because most Boston sports writers seem to hate sports and don't seem to know what they're talking about. (See Headline.)

I'll take it over the nit-picky, negative nancy station. The only thing "The Hub" knows what to do is A) bash EEI, and B) complain about everything.

I don't know about Boston sports talk, but when I lived in Chicago there were certainly idiots and complainers. But they'd never complain about the competition because there was a good chance they'd work there someday. (The Score and WMVP regularly fired guys and they just go work across the street.)
