"Church & Dwight argues the ad campaign sends a "false message" about its product. The company says it commissioned an independent study that assessed the performance of Super Scoop and Fresh Step and that "cat elimination behavior was evaluated."

The company said that a study it conducted involving 158 cats showed that only six, or less than 4 percent, rejected litter boxes filled with its Super Scoop product "and relieved themselves elsewhere in the home."

'INTER-CAT BEHAVIOR'

Church & Dwight said that Clorox conducted a "flawed" rival study, using eight cats and two litter boxes at the same time. In the Clorox study, the total "waste" was weighed, Church & Dwight said.

What a crappy job.

Oh, only 6 cats shiat all over the lab. That makes it all better.

Can't believe people even keep litter boxes inside. They must honestly not understand that it smells as bad as smoking inside.

Yeah, I know, Fark is full of smokers and cat collectors ready to waaargarble at me now.

The green Fresh Step crystals blend is better than either of them anyhow. No dust, and I never smell the shiat.

/also helps to switch to a high-quality cat food

Are there not more important issues in our world like, I don't know the war in Raq/Afghanistan, world hunger, etc. that we should be worrying about. The $$ spent to determine which litter more attractive are so needed elsewhere. I know my three little fur devils let me know when they are mad by shiatting right in the middle of the floor and there is no litter in my living room.

The study failed to take into account "variable-inter-cat behavior," which could include a cat's fear of using the same box as another cat because of intimidation, Church & Dwight said.

"Cats do not talk and it is widely understood in the scientific community that cat perception of malodor is materially different than human perception," Princeton, New Jersey-based Church & Dwight said in the complaint.

Well, I'll be damned--guys, did you know that cats don't talk?

If a person keeps the litter box in it's own room and keeps it clean, do you still notice it Tbyte? I've been in houses where I haven't noticed it before. However the cats talking all the time about the litter might be distracting me...

We clean out ours twice a day and use deodorizer (2 cats). Also the litter box is in a storage area at the front of the apartment. If it weren't for the two furballs lying around, you wouldn't be able to tell we even had cats in our 590 square foot condo.

Ya know...

The first time I saw the commercial I thought, "Well there's a law suit waiting to happen."

It didn't have much to do with what's mentioned in the suit. I noticed that the cats enter from screen right, where the competitor's box is, then proceeded past it to the next box. Every cat that I know of will check out both boxes (or more if present) before going.

I'd be willing to bet that if the cats had entered from the opposite side, they would have chosen the competitor's box.

What ever happened to the Missouri college student who marketed South Butt apparell that was similar to North Face ? I heard he was sued for trademark infringement. Anyone know the outcome ?

Imagine instead of your familiar pet cat, that a strange hobo walked into your house and took a shiat in that same spot. I mean sure if the door sealed well and the window is open you might not notice for a while, but generally litter boxes smell bad, and the owners don't notice because they're used to it.

The alternative? Letting my cat shiat and piss all over the floor.

I keep the litter box inside because my cat is an indoor cat. Most cats I see outdoors are dead. My cat is still alive.

Oh, and I also smoke inside. Even at the balmy temperature of 38 (which it is now) it is cold out there. Punching the "MIN" button on my thermometer I see it's been as cold as -10.7 degrees. FARK! Do you seriously think I'm going outside to smoke when it's minus 11? Do you seriously think I'm gonna quit smoking?

You know what else? I prefer to take shiats in my own bathroom. It's gross enough as it is, but when I have to use a public restroom that other people have access to and take shiats in that's even grosser.

It is related to the whole 'my-shiat-don't-skink' phenomenon. Of course my shiat stinks, but it's my shiat. My cat's shiat stinks too, but it is my cat's shiat.

I don't want other people shiatting in my toilet. Sure, if you're a guest and you really gotta go you can use my toilet, but I'm not gonna be happy about it. I suspect you're not happy about having to shiat in my toilet either.

When I first saw that commercial, I just assumed that the box with Fresh Steptm had been doctored with catnip to make the cats go to it. I use Tidy Cattm for my kitties; less dusty than most.

You make me feel like a slob. Only one cat, but she's lucky if it gets scooped every other day.

It's litter for a reason - you shouldn't have to constantly scoop it out.

True story. Last night I'm changing the litter and I'm doing the whole job. In fact, I'm cleaning the whole farking bathroom where the litter box is. I'm scooping and brushing everything into the litter box, dust etc...

Kitty shows up. This is apparently not just a "what's up" visit. She wants to use the box. I was just working on the remnants of a hairball on the litter-box mat. She sniffs around and decides she doesn't like that. Scratch, scratch, scratch. Goddammit Kitty - you've lived with that for 3 weeks and now that I'm finally changing your litter it's a problem?

But she apparently really needed to go and with all the dust and other shiat I had brushed into the litter box it was too gross even for her.

Okay, so I promised her 10 minutes. I cleaned and refilled it with care and voila - as soon as it was completed she crawls in and takes a piss.

Thank gawd I thought. At least I don't have to scoop anything out. But no after her piss she dug a little hole and took a shiat.

Again I remind you. I do NOT have to have a point when I post.

The crystals?

I used to use that for my cat until PetSmart stopped carrying it. I even e-mailed PetSmart and Tidy Cats.

Yeah, no shiat Tidy Cats. You can't help it if PetSmart doesn't carry your product, but I'm telling you if they aren't selling it and it's not available elsewhere I ain't buying your product and it WILL be to the detriment of your bottom line.

Fark YOU. If you want my money you should settle your disagreement with PetSmart. Well, I dunno what happened to Tidy Cat Crystals, but it's not to be found anywhere - therefore I'm not farking buying it.

I bought some knock-off brand once but it was horrible. The dust from just opening the lid was thicker than what I poured into the litter box.

Now I use Fresh Step Crystals because it's what I would want to take a shiat in if I were a cat.

I'd love to know what my cat thinks of it. She'd probably be just as happy if I bought the non-crystal stuff that costs about a 10th of the cost of the crystal shiat.

But I loves her so she gets the most expensive shiat I can find.

It's obvious that there is something buried under the litter that the cats are looking for. The cats in the commercial are likely not the ones used in the study and more likely than not have been trained to "act" like they are using a litter box--first of all no ad crew wants to sit around all day waiting for the furball to do it naturally, and second, nobody wants to actually see the real thing in an ad.

Basic kitty litter is the same product as automotive oil-dry. It's even made by the same company

This info is useful both ways: Have a cat? Save a bundle buying oil-dry in 50 lb bags at the auto parts store. Got a few oil spots in the garage? Use some kitty litter on it. For best results, grind it in with your shoe.

Breeze litter box

Honestly guys, use this. It's far better than litter - it's easier to clean and there isn't any litter to get scattered all over the place.

A far superior kitty pooping pot.

Out of curiosity I was reading the website for my cat's litter (Fresh Step - not endorsing it mind you - it's just what she prefers. Or rather what I think she prefers).

They do NOT recommend it for soaking up oil or for gaining traction in snow and also do NOT recommend flushing it down the toilet.

I was somewhat surprised. I was thinking that the seller would recommend it for all of those things and more, including erectile disfunction.

Oh yeah - just to remind you assholes. I do NOT need to have a point to make a post.
