Hey, if Diamond Dave can still hack it, more power to him.

Gimme 2 jelly doughnuts, and a bottle of anything...TO GO!!!!

I wonder what the teacher's gonna look like this year?
2003-07-11 01:41:55 PM
I'd hit it. And not over the head with a hammer, either.

I loved how they kept referring to the encyclopedia of rock to find out about farking Van Halen. Every journalist worth his salt has Van Halen I, Women and Children First and Fair Warning at their easy disposal.

So sad after his solo career began going downhill after Dangerous I remember going to a local waterpark (and I live in Mississippi) to see him play. I still got to see him, yes, but I would have loved for it to have been in the Hollywood Bowl, and not by the wave pool.

I mean Skyscraper, not Dangerous. I had Michael Jackson in my head after reading that jesus link. oops. (I bet people are always confusing those two albums).

Before the trashing of Dave starts, let's admit some realities.

Most of us would love to be a cherished rock star - singer, guitarist, whatever... Most of us do not possess the talent nor tenacity necessary to do this. David Lee Roth did the rock singer role perfectly. He did it the way everyone would like to do it. He knew how to belt out a classic rock song, he knew how to market the band and increase PR etc. he knew how to ensure proper contract adherance (read: the infamous brown M&Ms rider.)

I realize he's older and balder now (it happens to us all) but I applaud him for doing it all, and doing it all right. Love VH or hate them, he had it, flaunted it, & worked it for the maximum benefits.

Is there any chance this thread might turn to a discussion of what a hottie Valerie Bertinelli is and maybe someone posts some recent pictures of her to show us how nice she's aged?

I'll check back later just in case cuz ya never know.
2003-07-11 04:29:30 PM
Good point control, Valerie Bertinelli has long been a favorite fapping female for me... Too bad she dumped Eddie just for drinking a little too much. Guess she showed her true colors (Tammy Wynette with loopholes.)

Thank you, Bump. This is why I think I love you.

Reading this made me think about that first big MTV contest. Does anyone remember the 'Lost Weekend with Van Halen' contest? Man, I nearly bankrupted the family buying postcards and postage to win that damn thing, and all for nothin'. Not even a leftover brown M&M.

And yes, Valerie Bertinelli was certainly fap-worthy. I used to have Bertinelli-Coleslaw-Cates dreams a lot back then.
2003-07-11 05:27:06 PM
darkhorse23 That's only cause you know I'm really Ben Browder. I just pretend to be a 41 year old father of two who ensconsed in suburbia - it's all a (slightly) elaborate ruise... Shhhhh...

Coleslaw Mmmmm... that sounds perfect (with an option to sub out the slaw, just like at KFC.)
2003-07-11 05:35:33 PM
In the picture in the article, it looks like somebody used Jarret's blood splatter tutorial on his scarf.
2003-07-11 05:46:53 PM
I won't tell...mmmm, Ben.....
2003-07-11 05:52:56 PM
didn't he marry Pam,no wait that was that other rock guy... nobody cares
2003-07-11 05:55:32 PM
That name... It's so familiar...

Nope. Don't know him.

Wait. Didn't he used to have a game show or something?;)

"IIIIIIIIIIII....ain't got nobody"

Rock Star.
2003-07-11 05:58:28 PM
You think all the cocaine turned his hair white like that???
2003-07-11 05:58:46 PM
Dave hasn't had anything worth hearing since "Skyscraper" in the late 80's....coincidentally enough, that was his last album with Steve "Jack Butler" Vai.

Bald guys with long hair piss me off.
2003-07-11 05:59:31 PM
Spandex and over 30? Just say no.
Spandex and male? For the love of all things sacred, no.
2003-07-11 06:02:33 PM
Saw him with Van Halen is '83. Two words: "has been".
2003-07-11 06:04:34 PM
mr pinkeye

Bald guys with long hair piss me off.</i?

Did Hulk Hogan touch you in a bad place?
2003-07-11 06:06:08 PM
No, was that guy from, uh....Ghostbusters II. What was his name? Viggo the Carpathian?

/perfect oppurtunity for photoshop
2003-07-11 06:06:53 PM
Fark needs a "Hasbeen Tag" for guys like DLR.......
2003-07-11 06:07:51 PM
Dear lord, he looks positively embalmed. I suppose enough Tanqueray will do that to a fella, though.

He can probably turn his dink back in at the kiosk, though. I'm sure it's worn out by now.
2003-07-11 06:09:05 PM
bozadee bozadee bop zitty bop
2003-07-11 06:11:11 PM

Wait. Didn't he used to have a game show or something?;)

Nice reference. 10 points for the subtlety.

2003-07-11 06:12:31 PM
Dave's cool. Pretty smart too. He may be a world class d*ck but he knows it and has fun with his own image, along with everyone else's. Most of these rockstars are too worried about their own images and the 'integrity of the music' (gag) to have fun.
2003-07-11 06:13:59 PM
i wouldnt hit it
i'd just pull his hair back to smooth out the wrinkles
2003-07-11 06:14:28 PM
You asked for it...

2003-07-11 06:14:30 PM

Well said, by the way. Nobody epitomized the rockstar lifestyle like DLR.

And there's still something to that Roth-wisdom he's been spouting for all these years. A bit shallow and silly, but still strangely brilliant.
2003-07-11 06:16:01 PM
And like a fine wine...

2003-07-11 06:16:52 PM
Is it just me or does it look like David Lee Roth is in the group Nelson!!
2003-07-11 06:17:09 PM
I heard the new DLR CD and it blows. It's like some karaoke project gone awry. The "drums" sound like they are programmed from an early 80s Casio keyboard. Most of the songs are covers and he even has a new version of Ice Cream Man. This guy has become the type of person he used to make fun of. How the mighty have indeed fallen.
2003-07-11 06:18:12 PM
Well, at least for Dave's part, he's still working. Eddie's just playing golf and "not being drunk" (if you catch my drift). I guess the experience with the Extreme guy left him cold.

As for Valerie, I think that they seperated/divorced a while back?
2003-07-11 06:19:37 PM
Now-now Philistine, "Just A Gigilo" was written in 1929 and was a mainstay of Louis Prima's repertoire.
2003-07-11 06:19:48 PM
bump, Val didn't ditch Eddie just for the drinking. They were married a very long time -- I'm sure there were a plethora of reasons.

Though I am curious as to what she looks like now... she's in her 40s now... anyone got a photo of her?
2003-07-11 06:20:26 PM
Wow, this far down and no one has mentioned the creepy resemblence of modern day DLR and the Cryptkeeper from Tales From the Crypt. He DOES always seem to be in on the joke though (sometimes he's the only one who understand what the hell he is talking about). Here's a contest most annoying celebrity interview from the 80's: Mr. T / David Lee Roth / CC Deville??
2003-07-11 06:20:59 PM
I think there comes a time in the lives of many "celebs" that it might be in their best interest to step out of the spotlight. Dave, of course, can do what he likes, but though I was a big Van Halen fan through the album 1984, I know that for the rest of my life I will see him only as an out-of-touch braying ass.
2003-07-11 06:21:35 PM
David Lee Roth is, always has been, and always will be THE rock star.
2003-07-11 06:21:59 PM
There will come a day
The youth will pass away
What will they say about me?

/Louis Prima, later covered by David Lee Roth

Louis Prima's been gone for years but I believe that somehow, even in death, he looks better than DLR.
2003-07-11 06:22:18 PM
Sad to say, David Lee Roth and his kind are why rock music died. When kids come in to music, and all they see are balding old guys booked in to all the venues, they found some music by people their age. By refusing to die, they ensured the death of rock.
2003-07-11 06:22:27 PM
At least DLR will always have a career, hosting "Tales from the Crypt".
2003-07-11 06:23:20 PM
Oops....looks like i'm on the same wave-length with someone else. Strike previous remark from the records.

Zooma zooma!
2003-07-11 06:23:48 PM
2003-07-11 06:23:54 PM
"David Lee Roth"? I thought full names like that (first+middle+last) were reserved for serial killers.

Maybe there's something we don't know?
2003-07-11 06:24:36 PM
Heard him on Bob & Tom a couple days ago singing "Dance the Night Away." Promptly changed the channel.

2003-07-11 06:25:02 PM
Bing Crosby covered it long before DLR did.
