Loading...: The Tim and Eric series finale was in May, so you guys can breath[e] easier.

Yeah, but six quarter-hour episodes of Check It Out with Steve Brule plus a one-hour Chrimbus Special equals de facto Season Six.

And officially, Awesome Show is only on hiatus, not cancelled. If the movie makes money, expect [as] to order another 20 episodes.

karasoth: Tim and Eric are not Dadist

From the definition of Dadaism:
Dada attacked conventional standards of aesthetics and behavior and stressed absurdity and the role of the unpredictable in artistic creation

It's (partially, at least) modern American Dadaism -- which is, in itself, an artistic commentary.

Call it what you want, but everyone I know who thoroughly hates the show seems to be someone who takes him/herself too seriously.

It's not as funny as it is silly - intentionally so - and some people's britches are just too big for silly(I'm assuming it's so the stick up their arses can fit more comfortably, heh).

I normally watch T&E silghtly amused. But that Chrimbus thing was the most painfully unfunny thing ever put on television.

Why do people try so hard to claim Tim and Eric are deep? The only people I know who have called the show funny also smoke a boatload of weed.

Tim and Eric need to go. I'd be happy if they just showed ATHF continually.

WHich is strange, becuase I know people who smoke a boatload of weed who hate the show as well.

The only people I have known to like the show were in high school when Tom Goes to the Mayor was on

Also, most of everything on AS is absurd/surreal/unconvetional to some degree, not just T&E.

I know a guy who knows everything about Cartoon Network. I want to have him come over and take a look at this thread before I offer you ten cents on the dollar for it

2010-12-30 04:18:01 PM
I've never liked Children's Hospital at all, and I'm actually kind of surprised to see the support for it in this thread, but hey, different strokes for different folks.

Tim and Eric, though, is bad on a whole different level. Typically when I'm watching Adult Swim I'm also goofing around on my laptop. I turn my attention to the TV when something I like is on and focus on my laptop for the 15 minutes something I don't for is on. This doesn't work for T&E, though, because the show is so annoying it's actually abrasive. It is impossible to tune it out for the short duration of its running because it's composed of loud, annoying, and/or disgusting sounds or soundbites often repeated over and over and over again. I actually have to change the channel completely or mute the TV entirely for the 10-15 minutes it's on.

And the thing is, I don't think Tim and Eric are completely void of talent. "Tom Goes to the Mayor" had it's moments, and even "Awesome Show" has a good sketch from time to time (in between the high pitched sounds of pig squeels and tongue licking). They can be funny, but for some reason they often choose not to be.

Yet I've met no one who watched the show sober who laughed at the "jokes".

WTF does that have to do with anything? I said T&E aren't funny, it has nothing to do with being absurd/surreal/unconventional. It's sketch comedy for the retarded.

Show me anything Tim and Eric has done like that. What they do is focus on how certain noises, bodily fluids, facial expressions, and mock homosexuality are funny

They are also mocking people who are unfunny on public access tv but without any of the earnestness of their attempts to be interesting or funny

My take: Tim and Eric show is like watching unfunny nerds from your high school a/v club intentionally acting awkward and unfunny, trying to be cool.

I got no love for most of CN's original stuff on Adult Swim. I get most of my anime fix from Adult Swim, so I don't want that part to go away. And yet, they're dropping the ball when it comes to content. Bleach only goes so far, and Kekkaishi sucked me in only to disappoint. When you have a show that's more about junior high than demon slaying, and you put it on at 11pm, you're catering to the wrong demographic.
Just because it's catered to my demographic in Japan doesn't mean it's the same here. My demographic in Japan got hooked on Lucky Star, which is basically Seinfeld with Japanese schoolgirls. Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Death Note, FMA, Trigun, and some that would never make it to Adult Swim... Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagan. That's what I want. Hell, my favorite anime on Adult Swim is still Shin Chan.
CN used to be known for the long list of toons you could watch as an adult and still be entertained. Hope they get back to that soon and away from Disney Lite.

/Still love the hell out of Venture Bros. though.

That is exactly what I got out of that noise.

CN isn't completely lost. Adventure Time and Regular Show are holding it down. I miss Flapjack terribly -- that show was so creative and surreal and absurd and BEAUTIFUL that it makes me cry.

I feel like two lines of conversation are being confused as one.

I'll admit I forgot about Venture Bros and Metalocalype (and maybe Ugly Americans), but I stand by my suspicion that ATHF, Squidbillies, T&E, basically anything with ridiculously poor animation is created with the high viewer in mind.

Venture Brothers and Metalocalypse are, in my opinion, wholly overrated, but I can see how people like them. Aqua Teen is a shadow of its former self and has long since fallen into the "random things are funny" pile, rather than the "funny random things are funny" pile that it started as.

Nothing about Squidbillies is good. Ever. I hate it the way most people hate Tim and Eric.

Squidbillies has its moments. Not the funniest thing out there, but its nicely surreal and has a cognizant level of episodic cohesion. Even if you don't find it funny, SB doesn't actively offend your vision and hearing like T&E does.

By the way, I would like some of those classic anime series back, like Cowboy Bebop. This DBZ-lite lineup of Bleach is craptastic.

I've had people who lived in the Deep South tell me "you don't get it because you've never lived in places that were like that" and I was like "you're damn right I haven't."

And yet, compared to dreck like Minoriteam and Fat Guy Stuck In Internet, it's only a moderately bad effort for the network.

I love Tim and Eric. I'm married with children, have a great job, and am pretty open to all types of comedy. I say all this because I've seen comments about what type of people T&E fans are.

I like the show because I like what it's intending to make fun of. Public Access and Local Commercials. Incredibly, most of their depictions aren't that far off. Scary stuff.

I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea in fact my wife despises it. But I like it and at the end of the night, it's good for a few chuckles before bed.

Sorry, dude. I like silly shows ("Pee-Wee's Playhouse" for example), but T&EASGJ isn't funny, period. There's no "deep hidden meaning" to it either. A stupid show is sometimes just a stupid show.

Of the badly drawn cartoons, superjail had promise.

Heck I wouldn't have minded more Drinky Crow.

CN seems to allow shows about 6-10 episodes before pulling the plug. Hell, I heard that Charlie the Unicorn was in talks at one point. 6-10 Sounds right to me because it seems like every show comes on with like a half season, repeats like crazy, then they don't pick it up.
