Take that ya hippies!!! Right Wing News breaks some amazingly unbiased reporting. Whoohooo.

Yeah right wing news like that's reliable. Impeach him, No a war crimes tribunal. That's what we need for bush and his murderous cabinet.

Allright, I guess I got everybodies opinion on this subject out of the way in one post. Move along, nothing more to see here.

2003-07-10 04:15:55 PM
Bill Clinton may have had the opinion that Iraq had WoMD. However he didnt go against the UN and invade Iraq based on his opinion.

/strawman. Good try though.. but its still a strawman.

So as we can see, earlier in the same interview Cheney said Saddam was "reconstituting" his program, not that he had "reconstituted nuclear weapons".

So it all depends on the meaning of "is"?

Clinton mentioned on the second post. Fascinating.

Btw, thanks Right Wing News, you've truly shown me the light. Damn those gays and their sodomy! Damn those pinko liberals!

2003-07-10 04:29:53 PM
So is Clinton the new Godwin's Law standard for Fark political catfights?

2003-07-10 04:54:05 PM
No, it's just that anytime a Republican does something stupid, neoconservatives immediately shout "Clinton did something too!", as if that suddenly excuses whatever the right-winger did.

Not to claim that JamesBong is a repugnicant wacko or anything, btw. Just noting that this thread is somewhat stillborn.

Smooky, Clinton is mentioned in the article itself, why are you suprised to see him mentioned in the discussion?

If Bush didn't know about this, he certainly should have. He's either lying, or he's kept himself intentionally ignorant of the situation. Do you really expect me to believe that Farkers are getting more accurate intelligence reports than the President of the United States? I suppose he could just be really, really stupid but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

My favorite part of links like these is how both the right and left accuse people like Russert and Blitzer of being biased towards the other side.

If you want to talk about taking something out of context, the quote of Cheney's where he uses the word "reconstituting" (as opposed to "reconstituted") is answering a hypothetical question about what the administration fears would happen if they were to let Saddam stay in power in exchange for giving up all his WMD, and not what Saddam was currently doing. Thank you for the lesson in irony, Mr. Hawkins.

Cheney didn't misspeak when he said he believed that Saddam had reconstituted nuclear weapons. He just got finished saying that he disagreed with the IAEA about the existence of Iraq's nuclear weapons program, that after the Gulf War they thought Saddam was 1 to 2 years away from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and that he'd developed several ways of enriching uranium to produce "fissile" (sic) material, so how could he be reconstituting his nuclear weapons program if it already exists and is diligently working towards its goal?

Oh, and next time someone tries to argue with you that the war in Iraq wasn't really about WMD, but more about freeing the people of Iraq from a tyrant, refer them to this:

RUSSERT: What do you think is the most important rationale for going to war with Iraq?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: Well, I think Ive just given it, Tim, in terms of the combination of his development and use of chemical weapons, his development of biological weapons, his pursuit of nuclear weapons.

2003-07-10 05:29:02 PM
So its not ok to mention Clinton in Fark Comments when he's used as a benchmark for arguements? Next time read the article before you start biatching about people discussing the content in said article with "irrelevant" facts.

By the way.. I'm from Texas and I'm a Conservative. I agree that Saddam had to be taken out. I, however take objection to the reasons given in the public and defacto "Declaration of War". If we're going to buck the UN now or in the future I'm ok with that.. but we damn well better have our ducks in a row.

anyway, how can anyone truly defend the bush administration on this?

The duty of defending them has now fallen exclusively to sites called things like "Right Wing News" and, undoubtedly, a few of the Fark members of the Dubya ass-licking cult. All of those folks are so enamored of Bush and so blind to his faults that if he pulled down his pants right in front of them, took a big shiat on their dessert plates, and told them it was chocolate ice cream, they would eat it all up, swear it was delicious, and ask for seconds.

Nothing will be done. Bush will skate right on through this mess. Though it would restore my faith in my fellow citizens if the American public rose up and demanded his resignation from office.

And yes, this is coming from a registered Republican. Though not for much longer.

2003-07-10 07:01:42 PM
Oh geez, here we go again.

2003-07-10 07:02:02 PM
I found it hilarious that this right wing site is accusing the Democrats of screaming for a sitting president to be investigated based on thin or non-existent evidence, given that they spent the entire 8 years of Clinton's presidency doing exactly the same thing.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

vroomazoom:

My political ideology has shifted to Hicksian political thought:

"I believe the puppet on the right best expresses my views."
"I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking."
"Hey wait, there's something behind the curtain operating both puppets!"
"Go back to bed, America -- your government is in control. Here, here's American Idol. Watch as these pituitary retards wail like cats in heat. Go back to bed, America. Your government is in control. Here, here's more episodes of Big Brother, watch this and get stupid. Go back to bed, America. You are free -- to do what we tell you to."

And so on, and so on and so on.
/I miss you, Bill

No....I'll just assume that you're traumatized by 9/11 or that you're taking Rohypnol or that you're under hypnosis or some other factor has made you highly open to suggestion.

(you're getting sleeeeeeepy. veeeery sleeeeeepy. you're mailing a cheque to bill_wick's_friend.....)

It is one long strawman argument. Take a couple of WMD quotes from the administration that you can twist into making it sound like they didn't actually lie, and ignore all the other WMD quotes where there can be no doubt they did lie. It is a good strategy for a believable biased article, but fools nobody who isn't already determined to believe Bush and company no matter the evidence.

2003-07-10 07:12:08 PM
Anybody who thinks Saddam didn't have any WMD hasn't been paying attention.

2003-07-10 07:13:03 PM
How embarassing it must be to have blindly followed a lying deserter into a war of aggression on a nation building excercise that's destroyed our economy. That's why some many need to fire up the old liberal vs. conservative smokescreen, to avoid dealing with the uncomfortable fact that our kids are dying, and not in our defense.

2003-07-10 07:13:43 PM
s/some/so/g yeah yeah.

2003-07-10 07:15:02 PM
It's funny how the Texan Republicans share in the cowboy behavior that Bush loves to show.

We should sign a petition to return Texas to Mexico.

2003-07-10 07:15:04 PM
Hilary's quote in October 2002 is a gem!

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security."

2003-07-10 07:15:33 PM
Keep trying Benzol, maybe you will figure it out eventually.

2003-07-10 07:16:05 PM
Wait, i'll respond for you guys:

"LOL! You liberal pussy!"

Great argument.

2003-07-10 07:17:33 PM
Bacicot

And yet another strawman argument. Anti-War people never said he had NO WMDs. They said that (1) The case had not been made that he had ones that would be an "immediate threat" to the US, and (2) If he does, why not discover them through the UN weapons inspection team rather then via war.

Bush et al said "screw this, we don't have time", bulldozed into Iraq, have found nothing so far, and have now said "It's going to take awhile" after saying the UN team had enough time and couldn't find anything because they were incompetent, not becase there weren't vast amounts of WMDs to begin with.

2003-07-10 07:17:34 PM
And even when you do get your HTML shiat together, someone already beat you to that terribly clever post.

2003-07-10 07:17:46 PM
See, defending the whole SOTU Address uranium thing is stupid.
The reason they claim they didn't know that the docs were forged was that the CIA hadn't checked yet. So, the president intentionally repeated information that could potentially sway others to his opinion about Iraq while knowing it was unchecked? What sort of leader repeats unchecked information is any form, anyways?

2003-07-10 07:19:04 PM
*sigh*

2003-07-10 07:19:05 PM
"why some many need to fire up the old liberal vs. conservative smokescreen, to avoid dealing with the uncomfortable fact that our kids are dying, and not in our defense."

Ouch. How true. That really IS the problem isn't it? Even if lots of Iraqis are still being killed, they can be conveniently labelled 'insurgents' or 'Saddam loyalists'. Who knows- maybe they are. But the fact is the country's been screwed up since the bombs started dropping and it's not gotten any better, despite the empty promises issuing from Both Parties.
Hey, the American people may be told the truth now, right? Despite the fact that they still haven't found any WMDs, despite the fact that intelligence was misrepresented, that even lowly soldiers who get lost and are captured are somehow 'rescued' later from the people who give them back..... meh, it's not that I'm cynical and mistrustful, but...I can't think of any other way to put it.

2003-07-10 07:19:11 PM
A terrible one?

What do I win?
