Priests are pretty neat right now. Lots of good changes since BC to that class. IMO Shadow is OP, but healing is again challenging and fun.

I haven't either. That's if you don't count the free trial account I made so I could see what cata was all about. And let me just say...
Holy Fark!
The low levels are fluid and things make sense now. Its amazing! I leveled a Tauren Pally up to 20 (the trial account limit) in about 5 hours play time. They got rid of a lot of superfluous junk like ability level ups and weapon skill.

If I wasn't going away for the next year I'd be seriously considering getting back in.

The only time I've ever drama-ed in WoW was when Naxx was new in BC, and we had a sr warlock fall asleep at the keyboard.

After a few minutes of trying to wake him up, we just said F it and fought the next boss.

Hard fight, but we won. when the loot came up, there was some nice caster/healer bracers.

which the GL promptly gave to the asleep warlock. No justification was given. Quite a few of the others, myself included, had wanted to roll on them, but the GL told us no, it was going to sleepyhead.

I think we lost like, 4 people from the guild in less then 3 minutes after that one. People were pissed.

Stores didn't LOSE anything due to the weather. They certainly still made money, just not as much as they forecasted. That isn't a loss.

But if it is, well then I just lost 5 million due to not getting the Lotto numbers right. Poor me.

As for Cataclysm? Definitely an improvement. Not without its wrinkles (some profession mat costs need to be revisited, various bugs), but definitely a solid xpac so far.

But 80-85 the second and third time around on alts? Decidedly less fun. And Tol Barad is a laughable zone, so much so that I wonder if anyone was actually paying attention during beta.

Axel_Gear: Heroics don't interest me.

They're fun. IF you're at the barely-qualify level, they can feel about as brutal as some raids do (tanks having to blow cd's on trash, even with cc in the mix). Once you get through that phase and gear up a bit, they do get easier.

kab: And Tol Barad is a laughable zone, so much so that I wonder if anyone was actually paying attention during beta.

Tol Barad sucks on my server because there are almost no Alliance players. No one on Alliance side ever queues up, so none of us Hordies ever get to actually do Tol Barad. I've had the Tol Barad victory quest in my quest log since I hit 85 almost a month ago and have yet to complete it. That whole queuing system was a nice idea in theory, but on a horribly-imbalanced server such as Area 52, it doesn't really work that well. I'd actually rather go back to Tenacity, because at least people could actually do the damn BG. I kinda feel bad for Area 52 Alliance, because they are never, ever going to win Tol Barad ever with this system.

As Horde, I'd have the worst PUG drama with Belf Paladins that never picked up their Rez skill. I was a Tank Pally and I had it, but you'd have these Healer Pallys that clicked on the HEALER role in the dungeon finder without it.

They'd crow, 'I'm such a good healer I never need it!" To which;
"This issue arose because party members are dead, jackhole! Obviously you aren't good enough!"

Cata has been quite a refreshing change from WotLK.

I remember going into Sarth with 22 people the moment they dinged 80 and downing him. The hardest heroic was Oculus because people didn't know how to use the drakes. But for the most part, we just AoE'd everything down and moved on.

In Cata, I tanked my first heroic (which was Stonecore). Wiped about 5-6 times on the first Boss, twice on the dragon and about 10+ on Ozruk. And you know what? It was the most fun I had in WoW in a long time. Wiping to a heroic boss, trying to figure out mechanics, trying to see what the hell is going on...so much fun.

We just finished raiding, downed 6 of the 12 bosses so far in the 3 raiding instances. I can already tell heroic raids are gonna kick our ass, but it will be fun.

2010-12-30 03:54:16 AM
most of the people I know who still play (*sneers*) are taking time off because there's nothing to do besides hit 85, anything new is overinflated, and returning former players are inflating everything because they're just so unaware. They think the Cataclysm oddities will be settled sometime in February.

The only reason I'm staying with WoW is because I found an awesome, almost entirely drama free guild. They're fun, and while some of the guys raid it's not required, and most of them laugh it off if they wipe.

PUG drama, on the other hand, is ridiculous for the first 40 levels. After that you start getting people who know how to play their characters (healers that don't try to tank and the such), but below that you still have people who usually have no clue what they're doing or where they are, and make the entire process painful.

/PUG is great for leveling quick, though
//and for rep mining if you have the tabards

Actually, it IS going to evaporate. Especially chain stores will have ordered merchandise months ago that is coming in to restock after Christmas with new seasonal items. The old stuff has to go, and if that means it gets chucked into the garbage or $50 items being marked down to $1 for a huge loss then that is what will happen. The stores CAN'T wait on weather. Modern retail logistics make little to no concessions to the weather.

How is it now that they are trying the free to play model? I hadn't played EQ2 in years; I never even hit the level cap. I was somewhat interested in it but I just didn't have anyone to play with. Since most of the people I knew were playing WoW I didn't bother to look into a guild for EQ2.

Do they have any kind of free trial for returning players? I've been wanting to try it out but 14 gigs is a huge download.

Anybody can get a 10-day free trial, but it would be a trial account, not your old account. It would let you see the changes they have made though. They also have a streaming client now. You don't have to download the whole thing to play, just a few gigs will get you started.
