I find jokes about irony terribly funny.

We shouldn't joke about the holocaust. My great-grandfather died in a concentration camp.

One of its most celebrated and blackest comics, Rowan Atkinson (who, for the literalists out there, is not actually black) advocates against laws that aim to ban speech that could be considered offensive to certain groups, and which are lethal to comedy.

You sure? Is there some routine or period of his that I'm missing? I love his stuff, but I think of it as "British outrageous," not blacker-than-black.

Is it now un-PC to make jokes about political correctness?

In Canada especially, where hurt feelings are now specifically compensated in human rights law, taking offence looks like a growth industry.

Whiny goddamn Canadians.

I have been thinking lately, why is it the speaker's fault that you got offended? It is your fault you got offended.

Suing for hurt feelings is bullsh*t!

Send "Black Adder" Ringtones to Cell

The sound of hoof beats 'cross the glade
Good folk, lock up your son and daughter
Beware the deadly flashing blade
Unless you want to end up shorter
Black Adder, Black Adder, he rides a pitch black steed
Black Adder, Black Adder, he's very bad indeed
Black: his gloves of finest mole
Black: his codpiece made of metal
His horse is blacker than a hole
His pot is blacker than his kettle
Black Adder, Black Adder, with many an cunning plan
Black Adder, Black Adder, you horrid little man.

The correct term is "literalist."

There's a fine line between black comedy and assholery and most people aren't clever enough to walk it, especially in text.

Also, anyone who whines about political correctness is just butt hurt over being called out as an asshole.

Daniel Petersen, a philosophy lecturer at the University of Hawaii, used it in a class to illustrate a point about free will versus determinism, and was suspended after a parent complained on behalf of a student. He now plans to sue.

But it's so refreshing and irreverent when people say "I don't give in to the PC Police. I don't care whose toes I step on. I am totally in-your-face!"

So rebellious.

How about if he gets fined or arrested, like some of the people in that article? Can he whine then?

TFA was worth it just for that succinct and spot-on description.

Going through all of the cited examples also boldly highlights the importance of context.

In their annual university issue, a trend piece about the cultural stereotype of the nerdy Asian student got an over-sexed headline- "Too Asian?" - which became Canada's inappropriate comment of the year.

But the effect reaches down to the common person, whose humour is less finely honed. Rena Mohamed, for example, a council worker in London, watched a documentary on exploited underground domestic workers, and tweeted that one of the women profiled "needs a good slap. Some ppl here have no idea what it's like having servants."

If you're a public figure, you don't get to accidentally let your true colors show, and then save face by claiming to be a self-employed comedian.

I hear Asians cry tears of lead oxide and typically eat nothing but apple cores and old newspapers to fuel their 38-hour work weeks. This is why they will never stop until we are all DEAD or working for Hitachi.

..the danger is that Canada becomes a nation of prudes, unable to laugh at itself, and scared to laugh at anyone else.

It's so bad white people have to watch what they say now. Those pesky minorities just can't take a joke anymore. Being politically correct is just too much to ask of white people. Why should white people have to come up with things that are actually funny outside of old-fashioned stereotypes that offend people?

I tell you, before you know it, minorities will think that their feeling actually matter and that they're every bit as good as white people.

/at least that what it sounds like he said to me

In that case the correct nouns for the Mad Lib would be:

Safe Driving
The Elderly
A Farmer's Market

Actually, that's not true.

Thanking a janitor for emptying your trash can is polite.

Calling him a Custodial Engineer is politically correct (as well as lying).

\Politeness and Political Correctness are two entirely unrelated concepts

Calling someone by the name or title that they prefer to be called is polite.

"Political Correctness" is a bullshiate bogeyman made up by Rush Limbaugh in the mid 1990s because he was mad he couldn't use the N word on the radio anymore.

Political Correctness was invented by Leftists (mostly college sophomores who dressed in black and felt the need to act angst-ridden at all times) back in the '80s when they decided that there was an inalienable right to not be offended, and that they knew best what would, and wouldn't offend people.
