asimovian:

that reminds me of that "Pete and Pete" episode where their dad wanted the license plate "King of Road" but somebody already had it so he had to get "King O Frod."

Good show. Funny stuff.

Forgot to mention, I called 1-800-SPANK ME once, and all I got was a Cher (tm) song playing in the background. I think it was for that shampoo she was pitching early in the 90's.

Because substantial evidence supports the TTAB's finding that the term "jack-off" is an offensive and vulgar reference to masturbation and that Boulevard's use of the marks refers to that meaning, we affirm.

1-800-PETTING
1-800-JILLING
1-800-BOPPING

Those aren't vulgar references to masturbation, are they?

Fark that. Intellectual property rights are supposed to be protected in a country that values its capitalistic values. The sooner we realize that the First Amendment does not say "free speech until you offend someone", the better, especially when you consider that this sort of thing is exactly what the Constitution was written to protect.

America's too far gone. To paraphrase Fidel Castro, "America needs many Robespierres."

The case doesn't say that they can't use 1-800-JACK-OFF. It only says that under whatever code they quoted there that it can't be trademarked. The number is fine (icky, but fine) and the company can continue as it had.

It's funny, I remember, several years ago, as a kid, dialing random 1-800 numbers in the midizzle of the night, and I remember trying 1-800-JACK-OFF... And hearing a sultry voice say something to the effect of "welcome to 1-800-JACK-OFF." I don't remember the rest of her speech, but I remember getting all the other kids on the block to call it for laughs..
