Just a note (thanks for posting the vid).

That's a C5 'vette which assuming is a Z06 is gear limited to 192mph (less if it is a Z51). Also; given the shift timing/duration of run I'd guesstimate he was much closer to the 150mph range.

/Done a lot of runs in mine
//Always on a track
///Cruise control on the street
////No tickets for me :)

Happy Hours: Okay, farkers, cough it up - what's the fastest a cop has ever clocked you at?

Fastest was around 118-120, but I didn't stop when the blues went on and was in the next town likely before he reached 60. Highest ticket: I was doing 100+ in a 45, slowed to 80 by the time radar got me. It was clear weather long flat farm country with new tar. Drag strip of a road. That amount over hit the state max $$ for a single violation.

/I was all yes sir no sir, cop didn't give me any shiat for going that fast (I think he just said jokingly "is your spedo working right?"), got out of it in court

NormallyTechnos: Ponzholio: What's the difference between a Corvette and a porcupine?

Porcupines are rodents with a coat of sharp spines, or quills, that defend them from predators. The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car by the Chevrolet division of General Motors that has been produced since 1953, when it was introduced at the GM Motorama as a concept show car.

...but that's not important right now.

I remember talking to a guy who got a $1400 speeding ticket -- 70 over at $10 per mph, fine doubled in a work zone. On a technicality he should only have been liable for $500 because that was the maximum fine the Turnpike Authority was allowed to charge for a traffic violation. They didn't teach the cops about the $500 max because there aren't many tickets for 50 over. Or because they care about the revenue more than the law.

A coworker used to go 130 on his bike in the middle of nowhere. He blew past a cop who looked at his radar, looked at the bike zipping past, and went back to waiting for prey he could catch.

HOw does he know the cop wasn't sleeping?

TsukasaK: The guy is a dumbass to be sure, and probably deserves extra police scrutiny, but I can't bring myself to call for his head over a victimless "crime".

OK I'll just shoot at your house and as long as I don't hit anyone, well, no harm no foul.

Good point. I've often wondered right after a trap why I didn't get pulled over and thought that was likely why.

Why would he ask that? Were you wearing it backwards or something?

Hah nice catch. And yes it was a gay cop and that is why he let me go. After cupping my boys of course.

I've definitely driven past a state trooper that was asleep before. I was doing around 95 at 6:30am, was on the road by myself, radar detector on, he was behind an overpass support. No radar picked up and he never made a move, and there was a cop in the car. I sped up a little more.

HowlingPook: I rented a Kia V-6 coupe last year while my car was in the shop and was coming off an exit in Iowa (long straight stretches of I-35 and I-80) and stepped on it to merge into truck traffic. Thought it was pretty fast and looked at the speedometer and was going 130mph plus and still had a lot of pedal left. Looked again to make sure it was not kph and slowed down real quick. I was surprised (it was a Kia) since most of the newer cars I've driven were chipped around 110-115mph. Did a GIS for that model and it was designed by Porsche. Excellent pocket rocket if you like to drive fast but definitely not safe for the average driver.

Are you sure you don't mean Hyundai?

seriously curious.

A thousand horse corvette would have blown the heads when he missed the clutch on the top of second.

The problem with the 190mph claim is that no vette on earth can take those turns over 140mph. It's bullshiat and so's the vette.

eqtworld: WhyteRaven74: eqtworld: you can't go from 70 to 190 in 15 seconds using half a mile

Would be a stretch in a car, now if it was a motorcycle, be a different story.

I sold a CBR929RR 3 months ago after putting it down. I'd only had it for 6weeks and I fixed it and got it running again, but I knew my life expectancy was really taking a statistical hit if I kept it.

But it was so unbeliveable there is no text to explain it. It had been highly modified by the previous owner (whose wife made him sell it when she got pregnant, she wanted the kid to have a father lulz)

It was Indy car fast. I have no stats.. not because the gear ratio was different than stock rendering the speedo all but useless... but because when you are really nailing it taking time to look down for the purpose of remembering numbers would be suicide.

It had twin fuel injectors in each cylinder, the second set opened up at 8000rpm and when it did it would try to wheelie in 5th going what I felt to be low triple digits.

It was death in a box to be sure, but almost worth it for the rush ; )

/when I put it down I busted my helmet and banged my crotch on the tank, it felt, not good

eqtworld, I still have my 929. Bought it in 2001 with 0 miles. Have a shade over 50K on it now.. And yes, it's worth the rush!

the 929 is light and quick... But if you really want a kick in the teeth and a sense that you're poking the grim reaper with a stick when it comes to brute force straight-line power, pick up a used Hayabusa and go have some dumb fun.

The Stater didn't actually get me on radar, but he said to me "How fast were you going? I was doing 90 and you were pulling on me pretty good!"

I was doing about 110 and accelerating (I was late for work) at the time he turned on the party lights. I was on my VFR, in full gear and pulled over as soon as the lights came on. I thought for SURE I was gonna get cuffed and stuffed, but he let me off with a warning! I think he was surprised to see an old dude under the helmet, and specifically pointed out that I was obviously a skilled rider and had full gear on. he just told me to slow it down, and I did!

/for that day ;)
//this cool cop is the exception that proves the rule. :P
///He did call my VFR a sportbike, though. *sigh*

Heh.

I once got pulled over by an unmarked police car on a motorway having been filmed going at 99.5 mph, and if I had been going over 100 would have had to go to court instead of getting a fixed penalty fine.

Luckily, I had slowed down to answer the phone...
