This is why the top 2% need tax cuts. Their income increased 48% while yours declined 4%.

"Americans made less in 2009"

"Those that had jobs saw their incomes rise 1.2% in 2009."

People who worked made more money than those who didn't? *gasp*

Yes, and since they got them, unemployment should drop precipitously any day now...

For the first time in four years, I did not get an off-cycle raise at my job. The normal, annual review raise and bonus came through, but they were a little smaller than the previous year.

All Bush's fault
*fingers in ears*
All Bush's fault
All Bush's fault
All Bush's fault
All Bush's fault

This is obviously George Bush's fault because his middle initial is "W" which is also the first letter in the word "wage". What more do you want?

As long as the union people are suffering, then all is well. That's all that matters.

That was sarcasm.

well, coming out of the worst economic event since the great depression... i'm hardly surprised.

FTFA: On Jan. 1, the minimum wage is set to increase in seven states, which will help 647,000 workers, according to the National Employment Law Project, a workers advocacy group.

Yeah, it will help them lose their jobs.

This is obviously the fault of the single worst "President"* we've ever had

Barack HUSSEIN Obama

Well, the middle class needs to open wider to catch more of that trickle-down.

Inflation adjusted wages have been pretty steady since about 1970, so it's about time they changed.

You could read this paper showing that raising minimum wages doesn't increase unemployment, but it uses a lot of statistics and big words so you'd probably just get confused.

Wow. You mean, when unemployment is HIGH, salaries are LOW? If only there was a law, maybe we could call it, "The Law of Supply and Demand" and it could describe why, when there is a lot of something, it's not worth as much.

2010-12-21 08:45:23 PM
Well, my salary is going to be frozen for the next couple of years, and odds are that Congress will eliminate step increases in this time period, precluding me from getting an additional $5,935 in my salary in that time period. They might also cut my annual leave by half. I'd be perfectly OK with that had the taxes had been restored to their prior levels, and if GOP Congressmen's staff payroll had not increased significantly more than civil services' in the past 10 years.

2010-12-21 08:45:32 PM
That's not bad for unemployment.

2010-12-21 08:46:07 PM
Lets see. Mine went up when I went to work for the Telecom, then it went back down when I went to work for an IT/Telecom Consulting firm, now slated to go back up now that competing IT/Telecom Consulting firm want to offer me more money.

But in the end, it's about even.

No, you could call it "Minimum Wage." The minimum wage to get the work done.

If I am lucky, my experience will outweigh the various MBA types applying for the same job I am. I've been doing this for 20 years. If I am lucky, I will get back into the same thing at about half of what I used to make. I will be thrilled to make half of what I used to make. Thrilled.

We are union. We are WAY more than minimum wage. 30% do the work and 70% sit back and collect a paycheck for doing the "minimum".

Marcus Aurelius: Inflation adjusted wages have been pretty steady since about 1970, so it's about time they changed.

You slay me. Reality here (new window)

And through out we have the same old silliness about raising the minimum wage costs jobs. It never causes prices to be increased. If the cost of supplies goes up, well, we just lay off the worker then as well. So it all makes sense then.

2010-12-21 08:51:13 PM
fta On Jan. 1, the minimum wage is set to increase in seven states (...) That could help the economic recovery, the group says, because many of the jobs being created now are low wage.

It takes a special kind of mindset to turn that into a silver lining

I got a raise this year. My place of work has been busier this year than ever. The recession made no impact at all.
