This. I've never been so underwhelmed by a movie before (that I was previously excited about, anyway).

You can't kill Indiana Jones. You could have killed him in Temple of Doom, when he was still mortal, but the gunshot arm that he used to still feel three scenes later would barely register now that he's Atomic Man.

Yea, I would have walked out on the last one if it hadn't been date night with the wife. I still thought about it.

I'd love it if they tried this - the epic fail from the first Ford-less Indiana Jones movie would be great for teh lulz.

What was wrong with the last crusade? Good movie, great way to end the series. I though it was fine. Dunno if I'd see a fourth one if they made it though. Three was just too good.

The power of the grail is limited to the area within the great seal. Once he stepped beyond the seal, he was no longer immortal.

I was under the impression that once they pass the seal, they don't have immortality. I thought that was the reason the templar was still there; he couldn't pass the seal without losing immortality also.

That's what I remember it to be. If you watch it again, they recount a tale about one of the knights that left the area after hiding the grail. He arrived at a city and later died of extreme old age. His body was buried with his shield and was a marker for the grail hunters. I think that was the brother that Indy found in the tomb in the catacombs under Venice.

Remember, Ford says a lot of crazy stuff in interviews. Doesn't mean it'll happen, and as noted, he wanted to kill Han Solo, too.

But... I thought it was interesting that the "old Indy Jones" bits (as seen in pic here) were edited out of the Young Indiana Jones series when it came out on DVD...

But, yes, yes, why are we even discussing this? As noted already, the whole thing is dead to me now, thanks to that last turd of a film.

I usually hate those types who mis-remember how cool their childhoods were, or whine about said childhoods being raped, etc and so on... I thought the new Star Wars were about the same as the old Star Wars. Neither classic nor awful.

But this... this fourth Indy Jones? Get the rape-kit for my childhood.

I don't see why they just don't find a new actor, and keep up with the same type of stories, in the same time frame; like James Bond. Keep the character, just change actors every so often.

I really won't be watching Shia LaDousche and the Toilet Bowl of Fail or whatever they come up with.

The Last Crusade was a terrible film. Rehashed bullshiat from the first two films, and Sean Connery bumbling around for 90 minutes. Sallah and Marcus go from awesome to moronic.

Terrible.

May as well say the same thing I said in the previous Shia LaBeouf threads. Shia hasn't ever really had a leading part in a film, so I'd watch him as Indy just to see if he can lead a big budget movie.

No, nothing he's done counts. There's always someone there to overshadow him, sometimes literally. Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, giant robots, rogue AIs, there's something going on in his previous films where all he's doing is REacting, not acting.

BTW, Harrison Ford screams like a girl as well, so that's a plus for Shia being the new Indy. Say what you want about Indy 4... it was certainly different. But it also grossed nearly $800 million worldwide and went toe-to-toe with Iron Man. Call me cautiously optimistic about Shia being Indy. We'll see if he can pull it off in the future.

I watched Crystal Skull for the first time yesterday since seeing the movie in theaters.

It honestly isn't that bad of a movie. I actually quite enjoyed it. I would rank it above Temple of Doom.It had good action scenes, a pretty good supporting cast, and was a fun movie. While the refrigerator, monkeys, and a few other parts were over the top, they didn't detract much from the movie. I was also fine with the aliens: there is nothing wrong with having aliens exist in the Indiana Jones universe. Raiders features a biblical ark melting heads off ffs.

I think we, as a movie-going public, need to put our foot down when it comes to Shia LaBeouf. Seriously: the man has no talent. He's gotten lucky because he's been scenery in films that would have gotten a lot of interest anyway. The other films he makes? Disturbia? Maybe a few others? All now reside at the bottom of a Walmart bargain bin. The man is only as good as the film he happens to appear in when Hollywood doesn't think the demographic is wide enough. Giant robots might not bring in women? Well, we can have Shia appear as the lead in case anybody complains. He won't get in the way.

Indiana Jones is played by an aging Harrison Ford? Well, throw Shia in there as a possible lead if anybody complains. Hell, it's not like he's going to upstage anybody GOOD.

Seriously, the joke has to end. Shia LeBeouf has no talent. Except the cocksucking it takes to get into these films as a permanent nobody.

2010-12-20 06:27:52 PM
Why do heroes have to die when they can no longer be effectively portrayed? The story doesn't have to end like that. Indiana Jones is simply not the dying type. The villain dies plain and simple.

Let the guy retire.

2010-12-20 06:32:45 PM
They can just re-edit the last movie and have Indy die when the nuke detonates.

I thought the last shot in Crystal Skull where Indy grabs his trademark hat before Shia can glom onto it was their way of saying "No, we won't be doing something as stupid as THAT".

Guess times change, especially when money's involved. Sigh.

Temple of Doom is very underrated and Last Crusade very overrated.

There's a reason Temple was a prequel. Indy's a mercenary bastard in Temple. Deals with gangsters for a diamond, endangers a child and a dumb girl for "fortune and glory"...etc. But when those kids are getting beaten and the light comes up on Indy and he's farking pissed, you can't deny that was awesome.

Last Crusade was farking goofy. It had some cool moments but everyone appeared drunk and it had terrible FX, even for 1989.

I don't think a new actor for Indy will work. It's not the same as James Bond. Ford is more iconic than Connery was. Maybe after a decade or so. I think with a decent script, Ford has another Indy movie in him.

No matter what you think of the film itself, Ford did a lot of his own stunts in Crystal Skull. He and Daniel Craig spent hours choreographing their fight scene in Cowboys and Aliens. He's not done yet.

Why bother with a new actor? We're in the digital age. We can make CGI characters that are quite believable now, and the uncanny valley is shrinking quickly.

We could have Indy looking like he did in his prime forever, and then all we need is a voice actor capable of doing a good impression. The guy who performed Indy's voice for "Fate of Atlantis" was pretty believable, as was the guy who did Han Solo's lines for the radio play "Rebel Mission at Ord Mantell" in the 80s.

Hire a live actor to play Indy's body, and draw in a new face. Simple.
