I can't imagine dealing with something like that. I am repulsed by the thought that an organization entrusted with personal data demanded by law wasn't more extreme in response to that trust being so horribly abused. We all should be.

Many people who have gender reassignment were born with intersexed or with ambiguous genitals and their parents chose wrong.

Yeah, there's some grey area out there. I remember hearing about a german pop singer a while back that was on hormone treatments before puberty hit, so physically speaking, we now have a person with male primary sexual development and female secondary sexual development. Confusing as hell. I wouldn't say he changed gender so much as forfeited it.

Is facial surgery "standard" in these cases or just a matter of preference? I always just assumed they tinkered with the plumbing and stuff and usually left it at that.

They don't always change the sex organs, but sometimes they do. But in many cases that I've seen ( different story for a different time) usually, they take hormones and that sort of shapes their features to be more masculine/feminine.

I knew someone going through the transition from female to male. They started taking testosterone, and had to go through a second puberty, pretty much. Acne, voice cracking, the whole nine yards. I'm not so sure if getting a sex change is worth going through puberty again.

1. I think that this issue is that you can't not allow someone to resign. If they resign then that is it, and the DMVs investigation probably wasn't done. Also, resignation is a big part of the reason why he won't receive benefits, which is a big part of why companies ask disgraced executives to resign, so they don't have to pay their severance or unemployment.

2. Really? Capital punishment for a guy who set a pamphlet? At most this will be a fine.

3. The DMV shouldn't get in trouble here. The guy clearly did this of his own accord and did it against DMV policy.

Why do people think that one's employer has complete control over their employee's actions and thus full responsibility? Unless this persons boss, his boss's boss and/or his boss's boss's boss was aware of his action and failed to stop it how would you propose it be monitored and/or controlled? It sounds like this was the work of a single individual unsanctioned by the employer. What will firing the chain of command accomplish? How should ALL employers react if this is meant to send a message?

Prison is too good for him. Isn't this an issue of freedom of speech? Nothing says you have to approve of, agree with or find the content non-offensive. The individual still has the right to utter it. The misuse of personally identifiable information may be a crime but the content of the message may not be.

The DMV needs to be sued for this? If that is the case then shouldn't the courts also outline what the expectations are? This is merely a case of looking for the deep pocket. If the existing procedures and controls are deemed adequate why should the DMV be held liable for abhorrent actions of the individual?

What would you propose all employers do going forward to minimize the risk of this type of thing reoccurring? How Orwellian do we need to get?
