Both of you...and I mean BOTH of you, stop wasting money on these stupid farking signs. Maybe, just maybe, you take the money you are shiating down the toilet with these idiotic billboard wars and do something like help poor people. Honestly, I expect more from my fellow atheists.

It's true, I've checked and Mr. McDonald's right, no one owns December. Who would have thought?

Right. I should have known that. Next time I'll ask around a bit more before I go spouting my head off.

Does the article say how much they are paying? I mean, nothing against my atheist friends, but jobs are kinda tough to find right now...

fark. Now I'm hungry. It surprises me how much the staples of the Mexican menu differs in the US (and in NE Mexico) from where I go for part of the year on the Pacific coast. We see very little mole-based stuff, but Chili Relleno and Pasole are on the menu of every restaurant.

Meh, I've never been in Texas (except at GHB airort), but if I lived there and had an issue with fundies, I'd move to Austin (which I understand is more free-thinking).

Besides the needless pollution and persecution complex, I have to say that's a farking brilliant response by the Christians.

Looks to me like both parties have a persecution complex. I say send all involved to Saudi Arabia for a year so they can learn some real persecution.

/Detroit will work too.

if by "stalk atheists", you mean "drive along public bus routes", then yes. Atheists should file for a restraining order immediately.

Also, what Ennuipoet said.

The atheists seem to be clear on exactly how persecuted--and not-persecuted--they are: "It can be pretty lonely for a nonbeliever at Christmastime around here. There is so much religion. We thought, 'What the heck? Nobody owns December.'" and "We want to tell people they are not alone. People don't realize there are other atheists. All you hear around here is, 'Where do you go to church?'"

I would love to see a statement of purpose from the buyers of the counter-billboard for comparison.

The paper then surveyed non-Fort Worth places with experience in the matter. Vandals destroyed similar ads in Detroit, Sacramento, and Tampa, FL, while Des Moines, IA, outright banned atheist ads... for four days, after which they reversed their position.

Hmm...where are the atheist vandals? Why didn't atheists try to ban Christian ads?

Both sides are bad, so worship Jesus.

The purpose of the ads is to give support and encouragement to people who are only pretending to be religious because anything else is unthinkable.

It's a lot like the "It gets better" campaign directed at people being bullied in high school.

Yeah, how DARE atheists let other atheists know that in a state OVERWHELMINGLY Christian that they are not alone and can be apart of a community that accepts them and their godlessness.

Christians Morans- " *cry* We are being repressed by the evil atheists !"
Atheists Morans - " *cry* We are being repressed by the ignorant Christians !"

Everyone else " How about both of you DIAF "

There was a time when the religious camp got the lion's share of truly stupid people but now days they seem to be splitting them down the middle with the Atheist camp.

I'm going to have to try that next time I'm up there. It took me a while to get used to what they call "Tex Mex" here in Houston. I lived for years on Mexican fare in Arizona and Southern California. What you just posted looks more like what I used to enjoy.

Oh, and the rabid atheists and Christians need to chill the f*ck out ;)

As usual I will have to explain why the two groups are not at all equivalent.

The purposes of the atheist billboard/bus campaigns are as follows:

- To reach out to atheists who are fearful of, or unable to come out as non-believers for fear of losing family and friends (a very real fear for many non-believers), and remind them they are not alone.

- To remind believers they do not have a monopoly on goodness, morality and so forth. Too many believers do not understand or simply choose to forget this.

- To promote organisations that do good work in promoting science education, critical thinking, separation of church and state, and so on.

The claim that this is somehow equivalent to the proselytising of a single faith requires a whole lot of explaining. Explaining that is, unsurprisingly, never forthcoming.

Either build up your explanation, or step aside while we try and do some good work.

As XKCD pointed out, the important thing is that Ennuipoet and PocketNinja have found a way to feel superior to both.

I could see this easily balloon into a parade of about twenty sign-bearing vehicles following the bus in a "You", "No You" parade. Like a travelling FARK thread.
