(Talking Points Memo)   Obama's approval ratings plummet to 49%, and the American public trusts Republicans over him by a dizzying negative five points. This is bad news, for Obama   (tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 108

Why should I trust him? He's screwing the pooch on everything he does by kowtowing to people who want nothing more than to see him destroyed.

That kind of stupidity does not instill a lot of confidence.

No True Scotsman!

There's a chance, though just a chance, that the Republicans might find out that there's more to governing than platitudes, and even the slowest amongst the American people will EVENTUALLY figure out who's pissing down their backs when it's clearly sunny outside.

But Obama is a secret Goldwater Republican steering America towards Islamofascism. I expected at least a 30 point difference between the two.

Fifty-three percent of those surveyed said they trusted Obama more than Republicans to steer the country, versus 48% who said they trusted Republicans more.

53% + 48% = 101%. The new liberal math! LOLOLOLOLOL

Why aren't our kids learning?

And actually, your mixing numbers.

"Unlike in previous midterm election polls, Obama still rates reasonably well (with 49 percent of those polled approving of the president, and 47 percent disapproving). And despite what Obama rightly called a shellacking last month, the president is still trusted more than Republicans (43 percent to 38 percent) to handle the problems the country is facing. [See photos of the Obamas behind the scenes.]

This doesn't mean Americans were thrilled with what Democrats were doing when they held majorities in both chambers of Congress along with the White House. But it also doesn't mean they want Republicans to set about undoing everything the Democrats did. That includes healthcare overhaul; Obama scored above the GOP (51 percent to 38 percent) in voter trust to handle the issue." - Better article (new window)

That's exactly how I see it. I love how in the BBC article I was reading today Obama was going on an on about how this new Tax Cut Compromise was a great deal and a perfect Compromise for the solution. I kept thinking, "if you give them everything they want it's really not a compromise on their part by any stretch of the imagination." Why Obama wants to work with a bunch of morons who do nothing but spend day after day speaking moronic half truths is beyond me. You would think a guy that smart would just go balls out right back at them like Bush did to our country the last 8 years. I don't know about anybody else but any time I am around that amount of stupid I do everything I can to call people on their stupidity.

Actually, it is the definition of compromise. By giving the rich tax cut now, not only does he force the GOP to start biatching about something else, the bill includes the extension of unemployment benefits, which will keep millions of people spending and putting cash into the economy.

I understand the definition of compromise but the only thing the republicans gave him was saying they would accept 2 year extension when they know full well they are trying to play it to 2012 so a possible GOP president can force a life time extension into place. Obama caved in and let them dictate the terms. Sure Obama got a few bucks to throw at the unemployed but that is hardly a fair trade out for what the republicans have to play with.

Yes, but those don't show an increase during periods when Obama has compromised with Republicans.

It's not so much bragging as "he has almost the exact approval rating of almost every president before him, and it has remained completely steady at this level for a long time."

Essentially, it's not saying "Woo he's awesome," but rebutting conservative claims that his approval is tanking because everyone hates him - because that's simply not true. His ratings normalized after the election, and have stayed the same.

I think one of my favorite things about Fark is how the libs will sh*t up every thread whining about how Republicans are stubborn obstructionist poopy-pants who don't want anything to get done if they can't get their way. Then they go on to the next thread to complain about how Obama ISN'T being a stubborn obstructionist poopy-pants who doesn't want anything to get done if he can't get his way. Then he compromises, some stuff gets done, and the liberals go all spastic and start talking about running Kucinich or some other rabid leftist against Obama in 2012.

Like repealing DADT, passing the START Treaty, the DREAM Act, and tax cuts for the middle class only? Those things on our agenda?

Citations, please. Because I can cite support for all of those.

Or perhaps you're talking about health care reform, when the majority of people would've supported a public option. Or the studies that show once people were explained what was in the final package, they supported it.

But please, show me where people are vehemently against SPECIFIC items on the "liberal agenda".
