"refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question."

The directive, sent by Fox News Washington managing editor Bill Sammon, was issued less than 15 minutes after Fox correspondent Wendell Goler accurately reported on-air that the United Nations' World Meteorological Organization announced that 2000-2009 was "on track to be the warmest [decade] on record."

I didn't know reading a thermometer is a "theory". Pretty soon Fox will calling National Weather Service predictions a liberal conspiracy.

Lumpmoose: Pretty soon Fox will calling National Weather Service predictions a liberal conspiracy.

Are you kidding? That much is obvious. We should pray to Jesus to bring the good weather, not worship the false idols that are weather forecasters, what with their atheistic science and whatnot.

so they immediately went out and falsified data and moved recording stations around and started campaigns to smear anyone not supporting their position...

Fox News has consistently delivered false and misleading information to its viewers about the climate crisis. The leaked emails now suggest that this bias comes directly from the executives responsible for their news coverage.

A-yup.

Someone with deep pockets should sue to force Fox to stop using the word "news" to describe what they do.

It'd be awesome if it were George Soros.

Copy/pasted from somewhere:

October 2009 memo from Sammon to his newsminions:
"1) Please use the term 'government-run health insurance' or, when brevity is a concern, 'government option,' whenever possible. 2) When it is necessary to use the term 'public option' (which is, after all, firmly ensconced in the nation's lexicon), use the qualifier 'so-called,' as in 'the so-called public option.' 3) Here's another way to phrase it: 'The public option, which is the government-run plan.'"

He's a douchebag's douchebag.
/That last part's not in the memo.

2010-12-15 02:05:48 PM
So he told his staff to tell the truth?

2010-12-15 02:06:28 PM
This is obviously untrue.

Anyone one who actually watches Fox news knows that it's comprised of wholly unbiased and respected journalism.

There is absolutely no pre-packaged and approved political propaganda at all. Nothing is partisan.

In fact, they have several levels of magnitude more integrity than even the BBC.

/sarcasm off

In other words, he told journalists HOW TO DO THEIR JOBS!

Any respectible journalist would question all aspects of any theory or story, not take it for the gospel while simultaneously fellating Algore's meatsickle and trying to purvey his bullshiat for free.

I think I've finally figured it out:

- Among those who deny that global warming is caused by fossil fuels, many are from the oil industry.

- Global amounts of oil are being depleted.

- If global warming continues, then many species will die off.

- When species die, they turn to oil.

- This creates more oil for the oil companies to profit from.

I'm a genius!

Does this mean Fox is going to have to report about Holocaust deniers every time they mention Auschwitz?

Fox doesn't really serve to report the news, it serves to interpret the news in a fashion that is consistent with the viewpoints of its viewers.

I'm picturing how that logic may have played out at other times in history.

something along the lines of 1616 - Vatican bureau chief issues missive to all Vatican Journalists:

"refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period revolves around the Sun without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question science that threatens our world view."

Same thing, different era.

So did Fox News fire the staff? Because this is about the worst way to cast doubt ever:

s3.mediamatters.org

Oh no, there is a book! And it is about Global Warming! And it is in the snow! Oh the irony! Global Warming is all thrown into doubt!

2010-12-15 02:16:44 PM
Casting doubt is what you are supposed to do as scientists. The problem is in science you test your cast-ed doubt and report accordingly. Casting doubt with no proof or inclination to get proof makes you a turd.

nlscb: He ordered his journalists to not take the general consensus verified scientific data at face value? HOW DARE HE What else is new?!

FTFY. There are opinions and there are facts. The earth is warming, that isn't an opinion, its a verified fact. Reporting as such is not "general consensus"

Speaking of respected Climatologists... Has anyone here read the steamy novel by Return to Almora by the UN's cheif of the Climate Change Panel Rajendra Pachauri??? Sanjay, the main charchter who is also in his 60s, a climatoligist and a perv is always noticing breasts and masturbating (once into a red silk hanky purloined from a train co-passenger ). More controversially, it was released in Mumbai by Mukesh Ambani - India's richest man and the head of the oil and gas conglomerate Reliance Industries, the largest private Indian company. HARD FACTS! SOLID SCIENCE!

It is unclear whether Dr Pachauri will profit from the novel. Many environmentalists regard it as unwise for a co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to accept such personal favours from energy industry giants.

Dr Pachauri is already facing calls to resign after the IPCC was forced to correct mistakes in its 2007 report, including a prediction that Himalayan glaciers could disappear by 2035.

Yes. Climate studies is an exact science that has no ties to government or corporate interests and is entirely pure. Indeed, it has metaphysical certainty.

Obviously Fox is lying. No news there. The real question is why are we mired in this debate? Why do you live in cities and homes that are destroying the earth? Why do you continue to live a consumeristic life that fuels the heat of this planet and kills it? With such certainty in these studies, and no question of their veracity (or political influence), certainly you must know that the life you are living isn't good and must change immediately. Turn off your computer. Stop commuting to work. Live amongst and in nature and not in a way opposed to it. Stop debating over the internet and live according to the life proscribed to you by the climate scientists.

YoMammaObama: Speaking of respected Climatologists... derp.

Speaking of derp... Have you ever noticed how there seems to be a correlation between derp and voting record? For instance if you don't believe in established science, you think 9/11 was an inside job, maybe you're stockpiling guns gold and rations for the impending Obamacalypse™ or perhaps you believe the moon landing was faked or Obama is a Muslim secretly born in Kenya; if any of these are true, odds are you're a card carrying tea party member who votes Republican.

You show me derp, I'll show you a Republican voter.
You show me extreme derp, I'll show you a card carrying tea party member.

Really? It's like a 400 page book, isn't it?

So how much of it is devoted to "noticing breasts and masturbating", as the character is "always" doing it?

Dr Pachauri is already facing calls to resign after the IPCC was forced to correct mistakes in its 2007 report, including a prediction that Himalayan glaciers could disappear by 2035.

That error did not appear in the Physical Science Basis report. It's unfortunate that it appeared elsewhere, but the IPCC Assessment Report dealing with the science of climate change has an entirely accurate summary of the state of the science regarding glaciers.

It is civic responsibility to cast doubt on climate science.

The people who worship it are loons and they want to use it to enact wealth redistribution.
