Wait until the merger of Southwest and AirTran occurs. Delta will get its ass handed to it in Atlanta.

I can't see how Southwest isn't killing these guys, at least in places they operate

Someday, I shall look down upon the bloat and rot of Delta's corpse there in its heap in the shattered valley of its death, all alit with the flickering dance of light and shadow from the hellfires of Blockbuster and PetSmart on the ridge, and I shall breathe deep of the dark's death air and watch the moon wheel in its orbit, one great cold coin for the ferryman, and I will smile a bloody smile before I climb forever from that place.

Oh they have sacks, and bags, and Tupperware containers and they are charging for every last one.

I live in Brownsville and there is a local lady most consider 'crazy'. She walks around downtown with a suitcase in her hand, looking for a mysterious dark-haired man. A friend once talked to her about this and she told him that the man was meeting her there today to take her to his mansion in the sky.

I fly Continental/United a lot and don't pay baggage fees and usually always get a bulkhead seat.

If you want to continue to pay $400 to go roundtrip across the country, then you better get used to these fees.

2010-12-14 01:17:17 PM
Oh no, capitalism! Stop taking our money Delta, it's not fair!

2010-12-14 01:19:38 PM
Sort of a meaningless statistic. Even if airline fees were super low, someone would be the highest.

/don't get me wrong, I hate the airlines and air travel in general

2010-12-14 01:19:48 PM
All these whiners should learn how to pack light (carry-on only), or take the farking train.

2010-12-14 01:21:42 PM
Cool story bro,

I was on a Delta flight and they tried to charge me an "upgrade" fee to sit in the empty emergency exit seat.

Pretty sure that's got to violate some FAA regulation.

2010-12-14 01:22:06 PM
I'm not even going to read the story; I'm happy enough with the "sackless pack of bastards" line. That's immediately going into my repertoire. Thanks, subby!

Meanwhile, I don't pay fees and I haven't paid out of my own pocket for a personal flight in years.

/suck it, infrequent fliers

ItsNotNewsItsBarc: Oh no, capitalism! Stop taking our money Delta, it's not fair!

Well when their business model collapses because we all got tired of being nickle and dimed to death I am sure they will quietly fade away, go bankrupt.

Oh no, that's right, they'll demand a taxpayer funded bailout... again.

2010-12-14 01:23:04 PM
Said it before, and I'll say it again: they need to do the opposite and charge for carry-ons instead of checked bags. Maybe then boarding and de-boarding won't take farking forever.

Delta is just terrible, top to bottom. Horrible company.

2010-12-14 01:25:42 PM
Would you rather they drop the fees, increase the fares and then make you pay an additional 7.5% in passenger ticket taxes on that amount?

2010-12-14 01:26:20 PM
Flew Delta yesterday. Came to the conclusion that their definition of on time arrival and departure was within a week of the scheduled times.

This! Haven't paid a fee in the 75k miles flown with them this year.

2010-12-14 01:51:00 PM
I'm flying on United Sunday for my one flight of the year. Taking a small carryon bag. All I ask is for it to go smoothly....that's all...is that too much to ask?

FTA: Most other carriers charge non-elite customers to check any bag. One airline -- Spirit -- even charges for both carry-on and checked bags.

Holy crap, Spirit. That's crazy. Does this include purses?

Reply to RCraig If you by having their ass handed to them as in ass loads of money see this in the ajc http://www.ajc.com/business/southwest-airtran-merger-likely-776404.html . Airtran was the low price leader in the market and kicked Southwest in every market it shared . As to subby like the bikers say Nobody rides for free. Well maybe at least if your not an employee.

Feh, rich people can afford it.

2010-12-14 04:27:03 PM
Virgin America's got an interesting setup. They'll nail you on a bag check fee, but if your carry-on simply fits under the seat (mine often does) they'll let you board after first class, but before the rest of the plane.

/For the price, they're a pretty good airline.
// JetBlue too.
/// The rest can shove it.

2010-12-14 04:51:59 PM
Airlines (like oil companies) are risky businesses that don't make huge profit margins. If you want ticket prices to stay low while mandatory security costs skyrocket and fuel prices go back up, then the money has to come from somewhere - in this case additional fees. Colleges do it too when they charge you huge amounts for parking or textbooks.

2010-12-14 05:21:31 PM
So people still take luggage on an airplane?
Sorry, have not flown in a while, but 5 years ago it was obvious that FedEx was the only way to go. Bags in your room when you arrive. Dildoes, nail clippers, shampoo, c4 all safe and sound.

Wake up.

2010-12-14 06:07:39 PM
They should just start charging per pound-mile for everything you bring on board, including yourself

I haven't flown since about 2007, but in March will spend 2 weeks in Denver & Oakland. As of now, based on my dates, round trip (from NY) is only $389. I should probably look at what fees are associated first. Jesus
