"Hmmm... we're at war, and I'm screwing my employees, so if I take advantage of the mob mentality among knee-jerk 'patriots', I can get my employees to work without benefits or risk being labeled as trators! Brilliant!"

The same people biatching about someone actually demanding reasonable retirement benefits are probably the same people scratching their heads at why manufacturing jobs are headed overseas.
2001-10-15 03:24:52 PM
i never thought i wouldn't like boobies.
capitalist pigs.
2001-10-15 03:25:14 PM
yeah, we'll be needing a lot of tanks for this war, dumbasses. gob bless teh uaw is right. huge multi-national companies can go fark themselves - especially defense contractors.
2001-10-15 03:31:22 PM
Won't need tanks until the ground troops roll in. Oops.
2001-10-15 03:33:33 PM
Henchman: "demanding reasonable retirement benefits"

Since when is a retirement package a right? If you are not employed by a company they have no obligation to support you. Go look at your constitution again.
2001-10-15 03:34:44 PM
Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill.....

Unions, I believe, are inherently good. They started out with the best intentions in mind. But, unfortunately, money-hungry heartless backstabbers are not only limited to corporate managerial positions. They can also be elected to serve as the heads of unions. What makes unions crappy nowadays is the same attitude that the unions were formed to combat, greed and lack of employee respect in the workplace. Only now the unions don't respect the bosses, and want higher pay for doing a half-assed job because they are "down-trodden employees". Also, the only time union workers come to work early, or work through their lunch break is when they are striking. Now how much sense does that make? My solution? More sex. Everyone is happier when they are getting laid....
2001-10-15 03:35:29 PM
There's a word for what the UAW is doing: profiteering.
2001-10-15 03:36:23 PM
Dullard you stated ". No wonder all the jobs are going to Mexico." .....The jobs are heading to Mexico so the corporations can increase their profits.

Perhaps I am biased due to being raised in a union family. A CEO can earn millions, still screw the company he works for and get a fantastic severance (hello WEBVAN), while the line workers are scrambling for overtime just to get their bills paid. Unions help to bridge the $$$ gap.

Heres an idea, maintain corporate profitability by slashing COO,CFO,CIO, various VP's et al, salaries. Yeah, I know, blasphemy. Blah
2001-10-15 03:36:23 PM
FUK THE UAW!! Fack them all and move the plant down to Mexico!
2001-10-15 03:37:05 PM
More sex sounds good to me. especially with burber's mom.
2001-10-15 03:38:30 PM
You'd have to dig her up, but I bet you've done that before
2001-10-15 03:40:58 PM
Burbur: I never said it was a right. Read the post again. Oh, look! Right there in my constitution, Amendment I. The right to FREE SPEECH! I guess I don't have to shut up when an employer treats me in a manner I deem unfair.
2001-10-15 03:42:19 PM
Only now the unions don't respect the bosses

2001-10-15 03:45:19 PM
I think they used that tag to incite conversation (IE: troll) and it looks like it worked! :)
2001-10-15 03:45:31 PM
I was refering to the right to a retirement package, not speech.
2001-10-15 03:48:43 PM
Amendment I. The right to FREE SPEECH! I guess I don't have to shut up when an employer treats me in a manner I deem unfair.

Sure, but don't expect them to give you the time to do it. The First Amendment only applies to the government. The company can tell you to shut your yap at any point, as long as you're at work. The second you're out, fair game, but still don't expect them not to fire your ass if you're just biatching to stir up trouble and are still on their property when you do it.
2001-10-15 03:49:03 PM
And I never called a retirement package a "right." You DO have the right to ask for one, though, and your employer has the right to say "no." My whole point is that both sides in this article can be painted as taking advantage of the war, and I found it amazingly narrow-minded to assume tht the union is the only one capable of such skullduggery. Anyone who thinks a corporation wouldn't step over its own metaphorical mother to make a buck hasn't been paying attention.
2001-10-15 03:49:14 PM
I love these conversations. There are three things that you can talk to almost anyone about, and you will argue for hours and never solve anything.

Are we not allowed to say "f*ck"? Or is it out of respect?
It doesn't hurt anybody: "f*ck f*ckity f*ck f*ck f*ck"
2001-10-15 03:51:32 PM
And if you don't support a group of working stiffs when their company puts the screws to them, don't be suprised when no one sheds a tear the next time your boss at the cubicle farm decides you can do without a pay raise, medical benefit, etc.
2001-10-15 03:53:33 PM
What a bunch of worthless lazy shiates! In my opinion, in it's infancy the union served a great purpose and served it well. As corporate America grew more relentless, so did the union. Now, the union is no more than a clan of people who work as little as possible who can't be fired!

My personal experience with unions: I've never been a member nor will I be but I used to be a technical analyst for a Fortune 500 company that operates many facilities all over the world that produce nitrate (fertilizer). Only one facility out of the entire organization was unionized. At that one facility on more than one occasion we replaced many miles of CAT 5 cable, networking equipment, and computers that were sabotaged by union members to avoid working for the day. A union employee was an alcoholic who repeatedly showed up to work intoxicated. The company tried to help the man recover by sending him to classes and repeatedly giving him chance after chance. Finally, when showing up for work yet again completely intoxicated, he was fired. Guess who stepped in and got the worthless munch his job back. The union.
2001-10-15 03:53:34 PM
WTF, I won't get insurance when I stop working either. I don't understand what makes people think they deserve anything. You don't see the NYPD going on strike now, do you? It's *almost* the same thing.

2001-10-15 03:53:42 PM
Union biatches. lucky to have a job in the first place. I they outsource the entire factory. fire the biatches. Union promotes laziness... Hell Unions are why your telephones are so farked up. Buncha dumbass oldfarts sitting on their ass because they "seniority"
2001-10-15 03:54:54 PM
you would do the same exact thing in their respective shoes
2001-10-15 03:55:46 PM
Henchman: Of course no one cares if I get a raise or not. That's just silly.

If you're not treated well somewhere, leave. If you don't want to leave, then you're accepting whatever the company hands out.
2001-10-15 03:56:42 PM
This is total bullshiat. These people need to be farking flogged, drawn and quartered and have every damn relative farking assassinated, to prevent gene pool contamination. If this was during normal times, yippy farking skippy, I wouldn't give a rats ass. These little cock gobbling whores are looking to take advantage of a bad situation.

I say we take a look at Hastur's idea from a different thread and apply to these bench of cumguzzling guttersluts.

Lock 'em in a farking room with a nice big fertilizer bomb.
2001-10-15 03:58:27 PM
I'm the one who posted the article and picked the tag.
It was meant as sarcasm. Being from Detroit I see daily what the UAW has done TO the city. 50% of all people in detroit cant read. 75% of all new borns are born to single mothers....and so on and so on. I know the UAW isnt resposible for all of those things but it lets people do things without feeling the consequences. Members can jack off all day and not worry about being fired. Hell the auto workers in Michigan get a week off to go deer hunting.
2001-10-15 03:59:41 PM
I can remember growing up in the 70's and having to
spend part of the winter in St. Louis with no heat because
my dad's goddamned union decided it would be a
good time to go on strike. This happened a several
times. One time he was off nearly six months and came
back to work for a five cent an hour raise. Woo-hoo!
I hate unions!
You can thank unions whenever you pay $25,000 for
some piece of crap car thats only worth about $7,000.
2001-10-15 03:59:56 PM
You know what I say about it....IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN QUIT! MOVE ON! If your skills are so valuable, then SOMEONE else is sure to pay for them! Sheesh! I never heard of such whiney, crybaby drivel as the crap put forth from the 'union brotherhood' aka 'strongarm mafia'.
2001-10-15 04:00:10 PM
I love how god damn facist America has become since the attacks. Now we have "Rightthought" and if you don't think these "Rightthough"'s you are an enemy of the state.

No matter how stupid or wrong something is, if it's related to the govenrment or "war" in general, we have to blindly support it. And don't you dare speak out against it, or you are "Un-American" for exercising the goddamn rights that make us better then those people we "hate".

Dismantle your rights to defend our liberties!

Silence the dissedents to protect freedom of speech!

Engage in blind faith to support your right to critisize the government!

Am I the only one who finds it absurd to react to the terrorists by emulating several key aspects of taliban rule?

If you want to celebrate america, don't fly a flag, burn one. It's our rights that makes America the greatest country in the world, and burning a flag is the *ultimate* expression of "freedom of speech", that shiat would get you killed in a place under Taliban rule, and that is why we are better then them.

Filling your homes with flags = A'OK with the Taliban.
Blind support of official policies = A'OK with the Taliban.
(verbally) Attacking those you question the government = A'OK with the Taliban.

So if you wanna show how much you hate their ways, go out and do something to our government that would get you killed in a Taliban country.

My contribution? I printed and wear the following shirt:

[image from too old to be available]

I don't wear it because I hate America, I wear it because I love America. And I love the fact I'm allowed to be unhappy with our laws, policies, and actionsn (this shirt obviously a comment on our tendency to demonize those we hate, while at rhe same time we emulate them. But the public chooses to be a sponge rather then a filter, and just thinks whatever the public frenzy tells them to).
2001-10-15 04:00:19 PM
I guess I am biased by the GM workers I know that brag about how much sleep they can get in at work and how if they do work overtime they get $50 an hour for screwing in door panels all day. Also, without the CEO's the workers would be on the unemployment line, anyway. Compaies don't run by themselves.
2001-10-15 04:00:52 PM
Perifly: Easy to say if you're a professional of some kind. (IT, graphic arts, etc.) If you're blue-collar with roots in the community, have a family, and you're over 40, good luck.

Are unions perfect? Hell, no. I worked next to an asshole who would've been out on his tuchis had it not been for a union rep to keep him employed. It also means that those who excel aren't rewarded because most unions put an upper cap on salaries. On the flip side, if it weren't for the unions, we'd have NO medical benefits, you'd be fired the moment you were injured, you'd find yourself at the mercy of management if they decided your hair color or shirt size was wrong, etc. I, for one, enjoyed flex time, exchange time, and vaction time.

That doesn't mean employees should have no recourse when they're handed shiat on a cone and told to call it ice cream.
2001-10-15 04:01:52 PM
Every time I begin to think there are Americans who understand irony and sarcasm, I come across pits of idiocy like this. Most of you are retards.
2001-10-15 04:02:21 PM
Before you go praising the CEO's for "providing" for us, the CEO's of the company I used to work for spent more time on the golf course than at work.
2001-10-15 04:03:25 PM
Thanks Chris, you're very intelligent to insult us!

2001-10-15 04:07:03 PM
Preach on, brother Buddy_LeChrist.
2001-10-15 04:08:45 PM
That's right.
Their actions are as American as apple pie. If you think for ONE SECOND that the UAW doesn't deserve as much as the rest of the country to profit as part of the American military-industrial complex, you should re-examine your priorities. Everyone else is trying to get into the act, so take a look around and see who else is profiting.

Apparently these tough economic times haven't been harsh enough on some of you to make you understand why unions are important. Vituperate as much as you want, but if you don't support unions (particularly ones that deal with corporate America), you deserve no mercy when you fall on hard times.

Direct your anger toward the proper channels--protect your civil liberties and biatch at your congress members for passing draconian legislation that will change the face of American worse than any act of terrorism could.
2001-10-15 04:08:54 PM
I do believe in your right to be a complete imbicile. I wish that you could see past your liberal college professor and start thinking for yourself.
Your an idiot.
2001-10-15 04:09:54 PM
If the tanks are so important, it seems to me they should be paid more......
2001-10-15 04:14:28 PM
I found this really funny...

""There's no health care for retirees after they retire,"

Is it just me, or does that mean you can retire from retirement?

Either way, Kuta, I would agree with you and most people who support the UWA, but go back and read my story on how I was part of a Union once. Also, you'll read from people who live in Detroit that the UWA does weird shiz all the time.

Oh, and Bildo, that's some funny stuff. Right on.
2001-10-15 04:16:31 PM
greeting comorade :)
2001-10-15 04:18:20 PM
"Your an idiot." -bildo

ouch, man. at least spell you'rere insult out correctly.
2001-10-15 04:22:13 PM
F the UAW!

I hope they never go back to work. That way when they're working the drive through at Burger King and their awesome new Chevy 4WD with the classy Calvin pissing sticker gets repo'ed, they have to quit drinking Budweiser and start picking up Naural Lite, and their cable gets shut off so they can't watch the WWF, then they'd regret giving away their good job to people ready to work instead of being fat, lazy titty babies.

This is good. There are lots of people I'm sure that will jump at the chance to get that work.

Go scabs!
2001-10-15 04:26:15 PM
Unions = socialism (not that socialism is necessarily bad)

But, they eliminate a basic competitive tactic: differential compensation. As an employee, I want to be limited by my ability, not some union regulations. Why should Jack get $10 /hour more than me for the same job, just because he has seniority, when I have to restrain myself to not exceed the union's negotiated work rates.

Unions only make sense for employees who can't otherwise compete.
2001-10-15 04:27:31 PM
^^^^ yes.^^^^
2001-10-15 04:29:15 PM
My only direct personal experience as a member of a union was during one summer when I worked at United Technologies in St. Louis, MO. I worked in a factory where they made rubber sealants for automobiles (window linings, foam seals around AC/Heat units). It was more dirty and unhealthy there than anywhere I've ever been, and that was just part of the job. We had to mix chemicals in giant furnaces, chop literally tons of rubber goo with shovels so it could cool into pieces we could carry by hand to other parts of the factory, etc.

In order to actually take this summer job, I had to sign on with the union. I was only nominally a member since I knew I was only in for a month. And the union even gave me my dues back at the end of the 12 weeks since I wasn't in long enough to be considered permanent.

Many of the rank and file there had been employed at the plant for upwards of 20 years. They were getting what they wanted out of life: a secure job so they could provide for their families.

THAT IS ALL MOST PEOPLE WANT OUT OF LIFE. And going around bad-mouthing them for doing what it takes to make the best out of what talents and abilities they have is the about most UN-AMERICAN CONCEPT you could imagine.

Some people have the talent, ambition and ruthlessness to go it alone. Some prefer a group for friendship, support and community. Either way, this is America and I hope you learn to like it.

Mog, I re-read your piece and it looks to me like you got screwed by an imcompetent union. My aunt just had her Whirlpool factory in northern Indiana closed on her. She'd worked there for 15 years and now is totally hosed since she has minimal skills and all sorts of health issues.

Just remember folks, we are talking about REAL PEOPLE here. Flame all you want on the Internet, but there's a lot more out there.
2001-10-15 04:32:17 PM
F*cking unions. I f*cking hate Pikeys.
2001-10-15 04:36:52 PM
I haven't read other all the other posts here but it looks like there may be a few that echo my sentiments:

These people are greater heroes then the head of these corporations who want to make assinine amount of profit off of the hard sweat of working people.

These people and their families have a right to have decent health care and adequate wages. The real assholes are the guys who are denying these honest working men the basics of living. The corporate assholes are probably thinking "Well if these Union guys strike they'll look un-American" even though they had the opportunity to meet what look like rather meager demands.

I'm sick of those who are at the top of this economic ladder co-opting everything patriotic when they're the ones screwing over the true American.
2001-10-15 04:37:36 PM
Unions suck dik. Period. They are nothing but Mafias plain and simple. Same M.O..

One of happier memories as a young man driving a dump truck at a gravel plant was the day a carload of '0fficers' from the local came to our plant to shut it down. 4 of these pricks get out of their car in their slacks and polo shirts and start screaming at us (5 men) to "shut this scab factory down!!"

We just kept working. Our boss radioed down to us and said he was on his way with help. One of these retards decides to get rambunctious and hops up on the running board of my dump. I pop this cunny right in the mouth and drive away.

Meanwhile my buddy Jim (who is driving the loader) takes it upon himself to load his scoop full of gravel and dump it right on the hood of their car. Although that was a wrong move, it was funny and got there attention.

Anyway, they crapped and fell in it, yelled and screamed about shutting us down and eventually did SQUAT. We stayed open another 2 years and shut down on our own accord.

All you have to do to a bully, is stand up to him. The only reason these retards swear by their unions is that they can work little for a lot of pay and hide behind the unions skirt. Piss on them.
2001-10-15 04:39:10 PM
You're funny
He's still an idiot.
2001-10-15 04:40:11 PM
Kuta: What you had to say was interesting, but remember that most unions out there are ignorant. For example, a lot of teacher unions are really stupid and selfish. There's a teacher strike going on here in St. Louis, and a lot of athletes who were given scholarships to play in college had them taken away because they had to forfit almost every game. To me, this is selfish on the part of the teacher union, but that's just my perspective. I've noticed that most people don't realize that when you go on strike, you don't get paid (at least I think so), so it's just the union heads being selfish. Anyone care to clarify?
