(MSNBC)   "Modern Family" actor Ed O'Neill says Jane Lynch didn't deserve to win an Emmy, calling Sue Sylvester "a one-note character." Sofia Vergara's rich characterization of a walking boob joke is MUCH better   (today.msnbc.msn.com) divider line 100

Being a straight male I don't watch Glee. I've seen Modern Family and found it somewhat funny. I have the first 5 seasons of Married with Children on DVD. I'm going with Al Bundy on this one.

Shoulda also put quotations around actor.

Dear Ed,

She only plays your wife on TV. She's never going to sleep with you.
-------

I've never seen Glee, but Modern Family is one of the best shows on television. Vergara is terrific on it, an d Ed O'Neill is correct about her comedic timing and instincts.

But Jane Lynch is 100 kinds of awesome, so even if she doesn't deserve it for Glee, she deserves it for being Jane Lynch.

I absolutely love Modern Family and I enjoy Glee quite a lot. I think Ed O'Neill deserved to win awards this year, as pretty much every other actor on that show.

That said, he's just dead-bang wrong. Jane Lynch totally deserved the Emmy, and if it was anything but a landslide in the voting, that's a crime in and of itself. She has been one of the funniest women in entertainment for the last few years, let alone prime time TV.

I can think of two good reasons for Sofia Vargara to win.

Ed O'Neill just loves fighting with lesbians:

Marcy: All I know is I woke up this morning with a man in my bed. I don't even know who he is.
Al: Well, that's easy, he slept with you, he's the stupidest man on Earth.

Marcy: Guess what, we're going to have a new addition to our family.
Al: Well, shouldn't you be sitting on it, waiting for it to hatch?

It renews my faith in Fark that Jane Lynch is recognized for her brilliance.

Speaking of one-note characters, how long did O'Neill ride the Bundy train until the wheels fell off? The show stopped being funny after Season 5 and it ended about six years later.

Furthermore, who cares? It's a goddamn Emmy. It doesn't matter.

"She's so sharp with her wit, it's amazing."

If by "sharp", he means "sexy" and by "wit", he means "tits", I'd have to agree 100%.

Sorry, Ed, but your show has only begun to develop Sofia Vergara's character into being something with three dimensions this season. She was a dull stereotype in season one.

...and if anyone ever edits Glee into "Jane Lynch only" episodes, I might actually consider watching those.

Jane Lynch never scored 4 touchdowns in one game...

Jane Lynch is quite possibly the only reason to watch Glee. On second thought, watch Party Down (RIP) instead, as it is actually funny. Few can deliver a one-liner like she can.

I like Ed O'Neill, but he's so wrong here.

It's probably the only reason. I only watched the first season but I got tired of the girly haired emo biker whose only expression is that of someone who's trying to wonder if they shiat their pants.

Hellboy is awesome in it though.

Firstly, Jane Lynch is the cat's pajamas and just about the only thing that will get me in the room when my girlfriend is watching "Glee." I leave when her scenes are over.

Secondly, this may be one of the all-time great animated gifs, and Veraga can certainly be funny, and is fine in her role on that overrated show. But Jane Lynch could act circles around her.

Oh so much THIS.

Members of my family are always gushing about that show and so I watched two episodes. I'd have had to kill myself for wasting the time if it wasn't for Lynch (though I cannot sit through that crapfest again no matter how much I enjoy her).

Sue Sylvester isn't the one-note character, Jane Lynch is. The only time she's ever played anything different was in Criminal Minds as that one guy's mom locked up in the mental hospital.

I've seen her from the front, I've seen her from the back.
I've seen her in a chair, I've seen her in a sack.
I've seen her stand, I've seen her crouch.
I've seen her on her stupid couch.
I do not like her in the mall, I do not like her in the hall.
I do not like her in my life, I do not like my big red wife!

Cool Story Bro moments with Ed O'Neill:

He hates being called Al Bundy. Brother ran into him at a restaurant and he got annoyed no one knew his real name.

I later saw him at a boxing match at the Great Western Forum in the 90s. He got a louder ovation than Julio Cesar Chavez (who was sitting close to him in attendance), and this is in a Mexican neighborhood with Mexican fighters on the top of the card. But he left in a huff as the crowd kept chanting "Bundee! Bundee!" during the pathetic title fight.

The show was on eleven damn years and he did nothing of consequence before or until Modern Family. If you're famous for being one character, embrace it. Hell at least you're famous.

/Also, thank you Christina Applegate's nipples for providing me with fap material on Sunday nights

I don't care how shallow Al Bundy was. He's never stopped being funny. Even in the few awful episodes, he's great.
