This is why the US usually goes far offshore to test missiles. We always think the worst, and since it's "classified research" no one is allowed to say anything.

My dad works for the Navy, and they regularly launch missiles from subs out in the Gulf, fly them over mainland US and then fly them back out over the Gulf and retrieve them. They are usually chased my jets.

Someone pointed out that since the guy observing it said he followed it for 10 minutes, there was no way it could possibly be a missile, since in 10 minutes any missile would have gone a much, much further distance at a basic missile speed.
