The mosque's backers included Yosef Khen, who said he was born in Israel and learned in school that America had a tradition of religious tolerance.

One person shouted: "Go back to Israel!"

I guess the lesson here is don't believe everything you learn in school.

Well, there'd better be a dome on it, because any building with a dome is a mosque, and domes make mosques easier to spot.

/not my logic

It's easy to get riled up about the angry troglodytes who live in fear of brown people, but the good side of this is that the planning commission in a dead-red conservative town voted unanimously to approve a project based on its merits and the law of the land.

The system worked. And I hope it gives all the fundies aneurysms.

Look for angry ballot initiatives or what have you to get them thrown off, like what they did to those judges in Iowa.

I hope all the "conservatives" that cried about the ground zero mosque feel like the douchebags they really are now that you've had a bit of time to sober up. How big of an asshole and a parroter of talking points do you have to be to have cared about that and now you don't hear a farking peep about it.

I think we should pass a law banning all religious buildings. It would be totally unconstitutional, but it would be equally oppressive to all religions and therefore fair.

Did the proposed site actually take impacts from plane parts spraying from the WTC during tne 9/11 attacks?

No? Good then, approve it, unless the locals don't want it. Democracy means the people have control over their government. It is not the government's job to "teach people a lesson".

Subby - your headline shows that you know nothing of the history of Muslims building mosques on the ruins of places of worship and other important buildings of their defeat enemies.

They have a 1400 year history of doing this; go look it up.

But don't let your ignorance of history stop you from mocking people who have real concerns over the Islamic threat.

I lived next to Temecula in Murrieta for 8 years until this year and while it was ok when we moved there, it became increasingly conservative to the point where it's pretty much jesus freak central, and anyone who isn't in church on sunday is out at "the lake" or "the river" or "the desert" doing EXTREME shiat BRO. Also area high schools have had race problems there in the recent past, and this does not surprise me at all, the area is full of angry old fox news watchers.

Subby here. It's amusing becuase it's doubly ironic that he learned America is tolerant but the group of Americans he's speaking to were determined to prove him wrong, plus they want to send him back to (Jewish) Israel for being Muslim.

FTA: The Temecula Planning Commission voted unanimously late Wednesday to approve a plan to build a mosque on the city's outskirts.

Sure, sure these farking towelheads start on the outskirts but then pretty soon they're on the inskirts and they got their hand all the way up our fair city's dress raping white women. Is that what you people want?

This is outrageous. The proposed mosque is very close to hallowed ground: the Indian casino where I once played Bingo next to a fat old lady inhaling a cigarrete with her tracheotomy hole.

Temecula is very conservative, and right winged, but they are first and foremost, Americans. Good job.

Yes, because no Christians have ever destroyed or re-appropriated a mosque or a synagogue and made it a church.

Your screen name is an accurate description of you.

Exactly what places of worship or other important buildings did Muslims destroy in the Southern California desert?

Many mosque critics say Islam is not a religion, but a political movement seeking to take over the world and impose a barbaric, repressive set of laws based on the Koran.

Gee, substitute "Bible" for "Koran" and you have a perfect description of modern Christianity and the Tea Party movement.

Or a pagan temple. St. Peter's Basilica was a temple of Apollo before Constantine gave it to the Christians.

Couldn't be more correct...

In every other place in the world when the Moslems erect a Victory Mosque they do it on the exact site of the important and central cultural symbols they are trying to erase, replace and show they conquered for Islam.

And about Temecula becoming more Conservative? What fantastic news! San Diego, Orange County and now Riverside County. Maybe there's hope for this pathetic Liberal state after all.

Any building this size would probably require planning commission approval. They needed a traffic study, for instance.

i actually work just around the corner from Temecula City Hall. I was driving by yesterday and saw a small group of protesters outside... I slowed down (should have taken a picture), but I recall one of the signs held up was "Muslims are taking over America" or something to that effect.

maybe i don't care enough about what happens locally, but i didn't even realize that this was happening, let alone an issue.

I always wonder whatever happened to religious tolerance in this country - glad to see the city has some sense (approved it 5-0), not so much some of the people at the meeting ("go back to israel" - like, really?).
