TFA: She received a lump sum of £2million in an out-of-court settlement, which she celebrated yesterday when she was spotted with a bottle of Champagne as she left her luxury Gloucestershire home with a mystery man.

Mr Page is believed to be the first lottery winner to be successfully sued by an ex-partner for a percentage of their winnings.

Ummmmm, these things do not mean the same thing. The dude just won 56 million, giving her 2 million for her to "just go away" is something that happens all the time in life, business, etc.

"Legal experts today said it is likely the couple failed to include a legally-binding 'clean break' arrangement in their divorce settlement."

So it comes down to poor contract drafting. Nothing to see here, move along.

Had the wife requested the money on behalf of their shared 13 year-old daughter I wouldn't have a problem with it. But it sounds like mom is a greedy biatch.

Hmm. So if the guy loses all his money or declares bankruptcy, does the 10-years-gone ex-wife have to pony up some money for his creditors? No? Why not?

/rhetorical question is rhetorical.

Why does she feel entitled to money he received YEARS after SHE left HIM? The money should go to the daughter. The mom shouldn't get any of it.

Mom's going to burn through that cash, hopefully about the same time the daughter goes to live with Daddy, cause he has a bigger pool.

It'll all work out.

Don't like that idea either.

First of all, 56 million pounds is GTFO of Brit money.

By yourself godhood in Mexico or Brazil. Hire any number of mercs to kidnap your daughter and have her brought there.

Send the ex 2M pounds of pictures and postcards.

I feel sorry for the man. That biatch shouldn't have gotten a cent (though I agree with his idea of putting together a trust fund for the daughter.) Take home lesson: make sure your divorce contract is solid!

Two million out of 56 million? That's only like 3.7%. What's 3.7% to rich people? I mean, shouldn't they be taxed at about 99.9% anyway?

No person needs this much money. It should be taken and distributed equally among the poor.

2010-11-22 09:43:08 PM
Why was he avoiding paying lawyers? He's got £56,000,000!!! He could fight her in court for the rest of his life and still have enough to live a very nice life. I'd rather give it all to my lawyer than give my ex a cent.

Tax free as well. And he could have stayed anonymous. Though his daughter might have suspected something...

It would amusing to see how long alimony and 'settlement' laws lasted if we all woke up tomorrow with the genders reversed.

2010-11-22 09:49:25 PM
First, I would set aside $2,000,000 in a trust fund with my daughters name(that was untouchable and doesn't mature until she's 21). Next, I'd have the craziest week of my life with all my friends and family invited. Lastly, I'd burn the rest.

That's right, I'd cut off my own nose if it meant some biatch was gonna get my left nostril otherwise.

Women...from what I can gather from the story...get pregnant as soon as possible. That child is like a golden ticket that just keeps on giving.

Men, hookers and blow. Don't get married. Just string her along until she forgets and she focuses on the next handbag or shoes.

cchings: Why does she feel entitled to money he received YEARS after SHE left HIM? The money should go to the daughter. The mom shouldn't get any of it.

I'm sure that's the rationale she used to go after it, at least in some circles.

didn't Michael Douglas' ex-wife do something like this to him recently? I forget what legal or irrational reasoning she used, but it got thrown out.

Oh yeah--she did it right after he found out that he had cancer.

What the hell is it with English divorce laws?

There was a story on fark a few years ago. Rich English couple the wife cheats on the husband and they get divorced. Wife gets the house and a trust fund that will allow to maintain her standard of living for the rest of her life. She even moves the guy she cheated with into the house and they live together for a few years.

A decade later she meets a new guy she sells the house cashes in the investments and moves to Australia where she blows all the money over the next 2 years. Now broke due to her own financial incompetence she sues her ex-husband for more money and wins!

Never marry a British woman, divorce laws that generous would easily turn any woman into gold digging biatch.

2010-11-22 09:58:47 PM
I can't remember the exact legalese but one thing I noticed when getting my divorce is that the marriage is not actually dissolved, instead you're legally entered into the divorced contract or somesuch (the marriage is technically still there in the background). I was surprised when I saw that, up till then I thought a divorce was the undoing of a marriage.

2010-11-22 09:59:07 PM
TFA: She was due to receive the money into her bank account yesterday.

Hell with that. No way I'd wire the money to her account. I would wipe my ass with every single pound. After eating at the most disease ridden, greasiest, rat infested mexican resteraunt I could find. The put it all in a paper bag and leave it on her doorstep.

Did any of you actually read the article? It says something about under English law, if you continue to pay "maintenance" (maybe child support is in there?) then the ex can go after you any time after the divorce as long as you're still paying them.

Because automatically giving millions of dollars to an ex-wife who should have gotten $0 and a restraining order is good and true.

And if you believe otherwise its automatically Misogyny.

//Or are you referring to the fact that Fark is full of He-man woman haters, and that because of our misogyny, we seem to single out news like this? Because that's full of shiat too.

The saddest part of this story is that the guy married his girlfriend after winning.

You'd think he would have learned his lesson...

2010-11-22 10:21:17 PM
I haven't read the thread but I am divorced because she cheated on me. With a woman she met playing WoW.

That being said, I would tapdance to her house while listening to living la vida loca on loop to give her 2Mil of the 56MIL I just won.

And I would do it with a smile.

Sounds like mom threw the kid under the bus. Poor kid probably has no idea what her mom did other than she might get a pony for christmas.

But meh....2 mill pounds to GTFA. He still has 52. If she blows through 500k a year without any reinvestments her money will last 4 years to his 208. His family will live OK for a couple centuries. At least a generation with a freight train of hookers, booze and blow. But then there are those guys like so and so from West Virginia winning $300 and blowing it all on god knows what, so who knows.
