son of secret police -

no beef. I just think anyone pretentious enough to put it in their profile ought to be knocked down a peg.

2003-07-02 04:47:06 PM
OK, bad example. How about that Mullah in England calling for Shariah in Britain? Seperate sharia law courts have been recently imposed in several African nations? It seems rather a once a small area within a country acheives a majority Muslim population, the call for seperate courts exclusive to them starts up. If permitted, the courts give them a sense of legitamacy to the group, and they tend to start fighting with other groups nearby.

Sounds like aluminium hat wearing paranoia, but hey...
it ain't paranoia if they are really out to get you.

i dunno. if I put 'black' in place of 'muslim' in that passage, I'd think I was Archie Bunker.

No, Smookyfufu, the question is what did Iraq have to do with September 11? Money, financing, training.

Well, I am not sure about that but thanks for the vote of confidence.

And, just to let you guys know, there was a lovely bomb threat in lower manhattan a couple of hours ago. I take the train from South Ferry to 242 to go to Yonkers. Its funny how people beat their chests about 9/11, but they don't live anywhere near NY nor do they work there.

But their cousin's brother's niece's nephew's uncle's friend's roommate once saw the Statue of Liberty.

Ciao!

Smookyfufu writes: what did 9/11 have to do with Iraq?

That's a silly question. It's like asking what did the Reichstag Fire have to do with the Holocaust. The Reichstag Fire created the political environment necessary to begin the genocide of the Jews. 9/11 created the political environment necessary to invade Iraq and take over its natural resources.

/apologies to Godwin.

Way ahead of you, bub. I posted this to my blog, a little while back:

How about that Mullah in England calling for Shariah in Britain?

Yeah, that is stupid. I do feel that once you're living a society you have to respect its legal system. The guy calling for Britain to be converted into a Muslim nation is just a kook. Luckily, he's marginalized as such other than by some extremist supporters. Some people simply need to get a grip on reality. Good example loki.

You're not suggesting eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, are you?

Consider, also, the number of ... hold on, gotta hit caps-loCK... INNOCENT IRAQI LIVES WERE LOST IN "operation not-occupation."

2003-07-02 04:55:17 PM
for what it's worth Smookyfufu, those of us not living near NY felt a lot of pain and became very angry/sad because "we" were attacked in a way too.

No, Smookyfufu, the question is what did Iraq have to do with September 11? Money, financing, training.

And? Where is the evidence? The proof? Other than a few documents that vaugely suggest a possible attempt at communication between Saddam and some of OBL's lower lever operatives, I don't recall hearing about any direct connection between Iraq and Sept. 11.

Uh, why would anyone want to join Mensa? So you could get into an argument on the internet and say, "I'm right, I'm in Mensa"? Or so someone else could say it for you? To show that you can get a high score on a non-standardized and questionably objective test? So you can pay them membership fees to get into pointless discussions with insecure pseudo-intellectual elitists?

Trust me- not worth the $$$, unless you don't have any other way of "convincing" people that you're intelligent. BTW secret police, if you think it's such a neat thing, join it.

Yeah, look at all the good this sabre rattling did the US in the Vietnam War. Bring it on.. that infuriates countries other than iraq... I sincerely hope we get attacked again just to show how valuable all this grandstanding and "killing is the only answer" mentality really is. There are pleanty of other civilized countries that get by just fine without the need for constantly going to war to prove how superior they are. I'm an American, and I sincerely believe that when someone gets organized enough again to launch an attack on American soil.. we 100% deserve it.. afterall, we've been doing it to other countries for decades.

Had" and "could" were prominent in the State of the Union speech, where were we told we were "moments" away from attack?

On October 7, 2002, Bush gave a speech and stated the following:

"Some ask how urgent this danger is to America and the world. The danger is already significant, and it only grows worse with time. If we know Saddam Hussein has dangerous weapons today -- and we do -- does it make any sense for the world to wait to confront him as he grows even stronger and develops even more dangerous weapons?"

This certainly sounds like, as you put it, we 'were we told we were "moments" away from attack.'

When did they discover it wasn't the guy that killed Klinghoffer {sp} on the Italian cruise ship? I think the name was Abu Nidal?

What does this have to do with anything? Seriously. I have no idea what you are saying.

An "impotent frothing madman" in control of a nation state through the harshest of means, re-arming and enriching himself despite international embargoes. Willing to support terrorists and in violation of the ceasefire that ended previous hostilities, he was a threat.

You state that he was "re-arming and enriching himself despite international embargoes" yet where are the weapons? And by enriching ,are you referring to the nuclear program he was suspected of rebuilding. That has also been debunked.

Just because he wanted to doesn't mean he was actually doing it, as Bush claimed. And where is the proof that he harbored terrorists. So far, the only proof brought forward was later debunked as a hoax and a fraud. No one from Al-Quaida has admitted to being aided by Saddam.

Saddam was a jerk, but he was not a direct threat to the United States.

2003-07-02 05:03:55 PM
I care less for what Dubya says than how we're managing to lose the peace after winning the war. We're one of the most advanced nations in the world when it comes to construction and rebuilding, and yet we're putting reconstruction of Iraq in the hands of overworked, underpaid Army folks who have not been trained for it. Let's get the water and power restored to the Iraqi populace, and you'd see these attacks drop off in a big way. That will leave the fedayeen and the foreign militants...oh, hell, let's call them terrorists...without a popular support base, making them that much easier to kill. Yes, I said kill...terrorists don't listen to reason. They're going to try and top 9/11 whether we invaded Iraq or not.

Well, as I leave here today, it seems the bed wetting liberal orgy is exponentially growing.

For the any of the conservatives left on this board, you must remember several things. First, that liberals operate on emotion and feeling, not logic. You noticed that with the anti-Bush statements made with the first 100 or so posts. They cannot stand the success he's made while he's been in office and it's intensifying. Therefore they feel the emotion to attack him, but give them credit for trying. They will look vigorously for any margin of error or evidence and manipulate to a degree that satisfies their emotion. It makes them feel better. And that's what it is about -- them. You see they feel that they are owed something in life. They feel that they have struggled. Therefore it's the responsibility of the governement to give to them.

What's unfortunate, is that some of these people are going to celebrate their freedom in a few days, while completely misunderstanding what freedom means in this country anymore.

I have to say - having read Son of Secret Police's post, that I think he was being tongue in cheek, at least at the beginning there. Cut him a break, will ya? Although, I have to agree with the rest of your rhetoric. Mensa seems to be composed of a bunch of "whiny losers who have no social skills so they form their own club" types. I mean, intelligence is just an attribute like any other. Mensa makes about as much sense as an association of tall people to me.

TheConvincingSavant -
what are you missing here?
they attacked us because we are not Muslim and because we defended Kuwait.
I gave you a list of 20 other countries in the same coalition. they weren't Muslim, and they defended Kuwait.
the fact that none of them were attacked shows your statement is wrtong, simply.
it's not that complicated.
Also, you're confusing jealousy with outright mocking.

So, because you think those 20 countries haven't been attacked, that makes you right? You're not thinking.

Why would a terrorist organization declare war on that many adversaries? The would have no place to hide. They've made the U.S. the priority because we are the leaders to all of their opposition.

Outright mocking has to have a beginning. Since I didn't bring my Mensa membership into this thread, it's safe to assume that you're either jealous, or jaded.

It doesn't actually take a high IQ score to get into Mensa, they have their own test which doesn't technically measure IQ.

True, the Mensa test doesn't measure IQ. However, I didn't take the Mensa test. I took the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test and the Stanford-Binet test. I also took the Langdon Adult Intelligence Test, but it is no longer scored.
