Mark me down for two gropes/rad doses next week.

Sweet! The airport near me isn't on that list (SNA - John Wayne)

Maybe I'll still fly after all. Maybe. Either these things will be taken out, or they'll be everywhere eventually. And if they end up everywhere, I'm just staying home.

Don't forget the airport on the other end of your trip

Sweet, unless they get them by Christmas, the airports I'm departing from in December don't have them.

How did they decide to roll these things out anyway? I see some seriously small, shiatty airports (I'm looking at you, Harrisburg International) on this list. I wonder why they got one so quickly.

Vanetia: Maybe I'll still fly after all. Maybe.

Only if you also fly to a non-scanner airport.

Either these things will be taken out, or they'll be everywhere eventually. And if they end up everywhere, I'm just staying home.

Sounds reasonable...

TSA website is out of date.

2010-11-19 12:37:03 PM
welp, both airports I'm flying on Tuesday and Sunday. I was hoping at least not the one I'm flying out of, because the whole point is the TSA gets to put the screws on you if you're not way ahead of time or they just feel like making you miss your flight, anyway. The other's New York on Sunday so whatever, that's a shiatshow any time of any day.

2010-11-19 12:37:41 PM
Useful? Not really. Anyone who's traveling in the next week bought their plane tickets weeks ago.

This list would have been useful about 2-3 months ago.

Went through the one at Oakland airport. Don't like it, don't fly. Problem solved.

2010-11-19 12:39:25 PM
I'm going to opt for the scanner but first will have to remember to play a little game of pocket pool so my little buddy is presentable.

2010-11-19 12:40:18 PM
Even by the TSA's own website, some airports they show as not having the scanners actually *do* have them. That's where the big flap about Mr. $10,000 Fine started.

/Nothing is important enough to get me to fly commercial
//Driving is more fun anyway

I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll either be discontinued by May or that I don't get chosen to scan. I'm not canceling my visit to the big mouse.

In the meantime, I'll be writing my representatives, for all the good it'll do.

2010-11-19 12:42:56 PM
I can sleep safe and sound tonight knowing the Boise Airport is all secure.

2010-11-19 12:43:16 PM
Huh...wouldn't it be awesome to go through one of those scanners with a prosthetic on your dong? We're talking like a foot long...what can they do? "sir, your penis looks far too big, we're going to have to inspect that"

2010-11-19 12:43:52 PM
ATL has it, but only about 6 of the 50 lanes are using it. I've gone through it a few times and it takes all goddamn day so I just jump in a regular metal detector line.

2010-11-19 12:44:05 PM
Protip in Atlanta: Don't go to the lines that disappear out of sight along the ends. First, because there's a line there you can't see that's longer than the one you're looking at, and second because that's where they have the image scanners.

/Not that worried about radiation or groping, but having to empty the paper out of my pockets and take EVERYTHING off is annoying and stupid.
//Stated miniscule risk of radiation is approximately equal to the miniscule risk of terrorism.

I posted this in another TSA thread, but here it is again for those who may have trouble, especially on opt-out day. If you decide to opt-out, should a problem arise and you want a more effective escalation process than, "If you touch my junk I'll have you arrested," ask to speak to the following, in order:

1) The agent's supervisor
2) The duty manager
3) The airport's Federal Security Director (FSD) (if on site)
4) Your airline's Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) (issue resolution often found here as they really want you on the plane in a timely fashion)
5) The Airport Director's Office (if open)
6) The local police if if the Airport director isn't around and you trust the local LEOs...

Remain calm and professional, do not threaten, but remain insistent.

Out of curiosity, why did you throw some out? I've done some Government IT Project work in the past. It was decent work and allowed me to add some new things to my resume.

I'm flying on Delta from St. Louis to Cozumel with a stop in Atlanta soon. Anyone know if I'll have to get re-scanned in Atlanta, or can I go gate-to-gate inside the secure area?

2010-11-19 12:54:07 PM
For what it's worth, I went through Atlanta a week ago and didn't see a sign of the scanners.

Then again, we were directed to a weird security place -- normally you start in a line going forward, turn to the right, then do a 180, walk some more, then turn right into the security area. The entrance to our security check was at the 180, after a corridor.

It would sure make me wonder a lot of things if never leaving the secure area still makes you susceptible to another round of groping.

Denver Intl Airport has the body scanners and they were operating when I flew out of there in early November. However, I managed to avoid it (purely by accident) by simply lining up on the far ends. Out of the seven or so security lanes that they have open, I believe only four have NUdity DEtection Scanners and if you get into a lane without one they'll simply let you go through.

No scans between gates on the outbount. You will probably be scanned on the return when transferring from an international flight to a domestic flight.

You're secure. No rescan. Hardly any of the security lines use this thing anyway.

Killer Cars: It would sure make me wonder a lot of things if never leaving the secure area still makes you susceptible to another round of groping.

Well, I don't know if my flights are in the same terminal. Leaving the secure area may be unavoidable. I checked my itinerary, but it doesn't have gate info. It's kind of a specific question to be asking Farkers, but I've seen weirder questions answered here.

Gloves

You're in line "B", 18 deep and waiting for your crotch rub, boob twists and a standard inside search of your jeans.

The person in front of you has wet pants, you smell it, and it's fresh. You glance to line "C" because some geezer smells like they have not washed since working the phone banks for Jima Carter. You tilt your head back to relax.

Suddenly a noise draws your vision to the carryon bag dropped in front of you. You notice the Depends wrapper, a Hustler mag and then the preparation H container rolls onto your stocking foot. You can't pick it up, you give it a quick hacky sack flick, you can't even respond to the thank-you.

You're thinking about Thanksgiving dinner with your family and seeing some old friends. You sigh, and look away. Slowly you open your eyes and the long haired dread locked maggot in line "A" keeps wiping his nose with this hand, then on his pants. His life partner is slurring so loud about forgetting his STD medication in the cab. Like, Dude, everything is scabbing over cause I got new t-backs and now I don't have the scratch for new meds when we get to Seattle man. Uh, Like, what should I do Chad?

How often do they change gloves? Every passenger?

When is the first lawsuit filed?

If an airport doesn't have 'imaging technology', do you still get groped?

MHT isn't on the list. Anyone go through there recently?

CNN got the info from the TSA website. A major focal point of the "Don't touch my junk" guy was that the TSA website was not up to date with regards to the scanning technology being used during his incident.

I'm guessing it is the usual Congressional pork barrel politics. The Very Important Politician from West Podunkville must fly from a high tech shiny airport.

Call me crazy, but if given the option between a full body scan and being felt up by a TSA agent, I'll take the body scan.

Yeah, I realized that and re-looked, and the airport I'd end up flying too also doesn't seem to be on that list. For now

Damn. Both JFK and LaGuardia. No avoiding it unless I fly on Southwest out of MacArthur. Not that I fly much.

Fish in a Barrel: I'm flying on Delta from St. Louis to Cozumel with a stop in Atlanta soon. Anyone know if I'll have to get re-scanned in Atlanta, or can I go gate-to-gate inside the secure area?

If I remember correctly, Atlanta has one central security area for all of the terminals. Once you're through, you can move between the terminals as you please. So I'd imagine you won't have to go twice, but obviously I can't be sure.

Its a great way to get new things on the resume etc. However there some agencies with such a history of Fail that Epic doesn't even provide enough of an adjective for that organization. So I just toss them outright. Way I view it is if you worked for the TSA you either 1) are so stupid as to not be worth the paper your resume is printed on, 2) so utterly incompetent that you aren't worth the air you breath or 3) so desperate that you'll do anything thus meaning 1 or 2 is probably really close enough to the truth that it isn't worth pursuing.

So yeah, blacklisted because of past employer/project basically. Not uncommon in the government field.

I'd really like to know which airports use which equipment too, anyone know a source for that?

X-rays for no productive purpose seem like an obviously foolish risk. The millimeter wave stuff sounds like there is no known health risk. There is definite risk with any x-rays. Small, but then so is the threat the TSA wants us to be afraid of.
