I am going to wait here in protest of your treatment! I wave my genitals at your "transit waiting rooms" and "transportation"! You cannot move me!

What?! You're going to turn out the lights and not offer me every creature comfort?! MISTREATMENT!

This situation was just handled badly all the way around, but the passengers were asshats.

I think it would have been kind of nice if TFA had perhaps mentioned WHY the flight was diverted. Was it because of weather? Was there a mechanical malfunction? Was it because of that asshat Reda Yahiyaoui, a business owner who was traveling with his wife, a two-month-old baby and a three-year-old?

2010-11-17 10:17:41 AM
Well, TFA does say they're french tourists. Is this a protest or a surrender?

Discount flight between Paris and Morocco? I'd wager not too many actual French aboard.

It says something in there about the airport being closed. To wit I would say "WTF"? Airports and hospitals don't usually close.

You mean like where it says it was diverted because the plane was late and the airfield they were supposed to land at was closed?

It does... The flight left Morocco late and couldn't land in France because the airport was closed when they got there. Why it left late, that's another story and may lend some credence to the passengers but probably not. They're probably just being French.

If Belgium still had any sort of government, they would've arrested these Frenchies for trespassing.

2010-11-17 10:27:00 AM
Other articles say that the airport they were going to was closed due to fog, not due to lateness, and that several other planes were similarly diverted.

The other Ryanair plane passengers had no problem being bussed to their destination.

However, in my Googling of this matter, I was interested to see that apparently Ryanair offers bjs as part of their in-flight service.

That's one way to do it, I guess.

If you were flying back to Dallas from the Cayman Islands and the plane landed in Mexico City instead, and they told you to get out and maybe they will send a bus for you to actually get you back to the right country, would you?

Of course the passengers are pissed, it is the middle of the night and they are being chucked off of the airplane in the wrong country.

There might also be some immigration issues since the flight is coming from Morocco. Is there a difference between the different EU countries based upon where you go through immigration?

Not a valid comparison, I dont think the chances of getting gunned down on a tour bus is quite as high in Belgium as it is in Mexico.

Actually they were told that their destination airport was closed and offered alternate transportation to finish their trip. The airline didn't dump them and tell them to walk.

They were offered waiting accommodations in the airport.

Three other Ryanair planes had the same circumstance, those passengers had no problem taking the busses.

We offered kindly to donate them Calais.
And all they gave us back was the bidet.
And now they won't let us go on holiday.
That's why I hate the French, mmm,
That's why I hate the French.
They all wear berets and they're all called Jacques,
They even steal from us the words they lack.
Le Weekend, Le Camping and cul de sac.
That's why I hate the French, oh,
That's why I hate the French.

They claim their films are the best we've ever had.
Well I suppose Emmannuelle wasn't bad.
Charles Aznavour is always so depressed.

Wouldn't you be if oui oui, meant yes?
Sacha Distel has raindrops falling on his head.
I wonder if Jean Paul Satre knows he is dead.
What I resent is that they're so good in bed.
That's why I hate French, oh,
That's why I hate the French.
They bake their bread in such a naughty shape.
They brag about their wine and worship the grape.
They criticise our food but then they eat crepe.
That's why I hate the French, oh,
That's why I hate the French.

And now they started coming here in droves.
French cigarettes, French letters and French clothes.
I'm sick and tired of eating all this brie.
and I'll be buggered if I go to gay Paris.

They're pretty cocky 'bout their games in the dark.
They think with girls they light a special spark.
But look what the bastards did to Joan of Arc.
That's why I hate the French, oh,
That's why I hate the French, mmm,
That's why I hate the French.

LineNoise: What the hell do people expect when they buy the cheapest ticket humanly possible for something.

Probably the service offered for the listed price.

Or should there be an automatic 'lowball' sensor in everyone's head? So you see a price that's lower than market value, and immediately the company is no longer responsible for fulfilling that offer?

They weren't offered a hotel room, they were offered a waiting room to 'sleep' in. What happened to these people has happened to me at least a half dozen times, but never from international travel. I have always received at least cab fare, free hotel, two meals, and a spot on the next flight going out - usually first/business class. I have also taken a one-way rental car home twice and one time I took a rental car and two other passengers to a different airport in a different city to get on an available flight on another airline. So I am flexible, but I think this group has something else going on. There is some other reason they are choosing an uncomfortable plane seat over a waiting room. I am guessing there are differences between going through immigration in Belgium and going through immigration in France.
Also, how long a bus ride is it? Why not take the same plane to the correct destination in the morning? Again, knowing Ryanair, the customers may be getting screwed in the bargain.

From the articles I read, they were offered a waiting room until the busses arrived, not to sleep in. They were given the option to continue their journey, they chose not to take it and submerge themselves in misery. Their choice.

According to Googlemaps it's a three hour drive.

So, they decided to sit for four-five hours (the articles differ) in the dark, with no toilets or climate control going nowhere as opposed to getting on the relative comfort of a bus and actually getting where they needed to go.

The officials discussed it among themselves and decided that the passengers would most likely want to continue on their way rather than face further delays. This is the ONLY plane that protested.

Well, considering it's RyanAir, they should be thankful that plane managed to hit Europe. With that airline, it's pretty much a game of lawn darts. They just call their shots, put those things in the air and hope they come down somewhere near where they want them to.

Never been to PD...a little old for it when it was built and all. The Aquarium was and still is pretty cool. Family used to have a membership to it and could show up whenever. Now they've got time slots where you have to show up for etc.

Depends where you go, but proud to be a Baltimoran for 25+ years.
