The American people have kicked the French in the nuts - no question. French wine sales down 26%. World wine sales up 4%. No lines at the Louvre according to a returning friend of mine.

The French deserve it. You can be against war without throwing your full diplomatic weight behind a genocidal dictator. Canada did. Nobody's boycotting them. The French chose otherwise and are now paying for it.

Salmacis: That merely proves that Blix can't read, either. Seriously, have you *read* 1441? Give it a try.

ok, time out...... everybody go sit in the corner and think about what you've done....

I have been to France many times and the people I have met there have proven their respect for the PEOPLE of American much better than I have seen Americans respect the PEOPLE of France. Many times the politics of a country are not representative of the people who actually live there. On my first trip to France, a family I had just met took me to the American cemetery near their village to show me how they respected what the American soldiers had done for them. In fact, there are many such cemeteries all over France. The land on which they are located was GIVEN to the US as a thank-you and is still maintained excellently. There is American soil in France and I have never seen anyone desecrate it. If that American flag was really taken down, then there is the possibility that it was taken down by an American, even more shameful than being taken down by the French, because part of the museum may be US owned just like the cemeteries. So just STFU and quit judging a country on its leaders and politicians cuz I'm fairly sure you don't want them to judge us for the same reason.

/amazed that anyone takes politics seriously

I say we just cut all ties with the frogs, take the US out of NATO, and go it alone. Cut all aid to everyone except those few country's who have stood steadfast by the side of the USA, and go it alone... Let them come to us asking for help again. Invasion, sorry, suck it up. Strange mutant SARS outbreak, sorry, suck it up - then die. Nuclear Attack, opps, sorry wrong button...

Lol, schlingfo,

It does look like they were photoshopped.

hahaha

sonnyboy11 "and believes France was right to take the anti-war stance they did."

Do you really believe Frances stance had anything to do with Iraq?

2003-07-01 01:57:11 PM
Wow, would you just look at what Myanmar is doing now a days... Go figure.. whew! That lil country just sitting there next to India the way it is... Wow.. Those silly guys.

2003-07-01 01:57:23 PM
Forget about the past and look at the present. Even if they want to be blind and stupidly oppose the war, they had the right to do so. But what put them over the line was when they went from passive abstinance to active sabotage (there's a nice French word). They actively sought to bully African nations to vote against us in the UN. That is something a so-called ally does NOT do, regardless of how much we saved them in the past.

Stryperswine: Dear god man, are you seriously going to suggest that the USA wasn't doing exactly the same? There was some serious lobbying going on, and both USA and France were using every piece of economic leverage they had.

2003-07-01 01:57:51 PM
blah blah blah blah.

France sucks. USA sucks.

I'm moving to Canada.

2003-07-01 01:46:45 PM SchlingFo
thank you, albo.

Everyone else has been skipping over my posts in an effort to bash the french.
It's nice to see someone else noticed that the flags appear to have been photoshopped.

I went back and looked at the pins. If you look to the far left you can kind of see a little bit of a shadow. You might be right, good call.

This could just be a way for the guy to screw with the local officials over there.

2003-07-01 01:58:27 PM

we can lie too and doesn't wearing a beret make someone french?

2003-07-01 01:59:06 PM
Drunkie_Brewster, it wasn't an American who took down the flags. They would have also ahve to remove all American flags/pins, and other merchandise as well...

2003-07-01 01:59:33 PM
footballinthegroin, i must have been channeling you.

we should stop buying french wine anyway. people must do it for the prestige. on the whole, i think good california wine equals good french, and chilean and australian wine is better and cheaper than their vin ordinaire for everyday drinking.

I live in a redneck county in Alabama. Please dont make fun of us. Pick on Mississippi for a change!

2003-07-01 01:59:40 PM
Hey FRANCE, how dare you not help us invade a nation and start a war on shaky pretenses! How dare you not help us kill a whole lot of people for a vague and undefined purpose! And how dare you take us to task for doing what we damn well please. We are the United States and if anyone is going to be arrogant and tell the world to suck it it's going to be us.

2003-07-01 01:59:52 PM
Shut........UP

I get the biggest kick out of the people who say France opposed the US out of some moral stance.

The world, including Americans, opposed the WAR on a MORAL STANCE you FARKING IDIOT.

2003-07-01 01:59:59 PM
Everyone... read the article. then get over yourself. Jesus, we might as well have a flamewar over something just as biased, uninformed, and without journalistic merit.

wait...

2003-07-01 02:00:01 PM
Seriously, what does it matter? France is really struggling to remain a relevant power, economic or otherwise. They are becoming less and less important all the time. Their stance as a counter-USA is a pathetic attempt at staying relevant.

2003-07-01 02:00:11 PM
off thread but strangely appropriate

2003-07-01 02:00:42 PM
Fark it:
Ok, maybe the XYZ affair was more so French leaning in stupidity, but it is irrelevant to my point that they aren't obligated to support the U.S. if they don't want to.

2003-07-01 02:00:59 PM
"Hey man, them damn Frenchies took down our flag! First they had the nerve to disagree with America over Iraq, and now this! Put down them fried potatoes, Cooter, and help me find my gun."

I would imagine the flag was removed not to disrespect the brave soldiers who fought and died at Normandy. The French hold them in the highest regard. No, it was meant to disrespect Bush pretending to be a brave soldier, flying that dangerous mission to the aircraft carrier for a photo-op.

2003-07-01 02:01:38 PM
"The world, including Americans, opposed the WAR on a MORAL STANCE you FARKING IDIOT."

Wow, how old are you, 12? Farking idiot?

A highly intellectual argument by very mature individual. Thanks for letting me be there to witness it.

...

2003-07-01 02:02:15 PM
Jive_Turkey I don't think it is photoshopped, unless this guy is one of the best. The tree behind the flagpole is wayyy to detailed. Unless this guy is a photoshop champ, I don't think he faked it

2003-07-01 02:02:16 PM
Amazing what sort of articles can spark a flame war.

/packin' gasoline

2003-07-01 02:02:20 PM
This is in very bad taste. This memorial is for the Americans who died in a battle on the beaches at Normandy. That simple, white cross tombstone and that American flag are all they have to show the world who they were.

2003-07-01 02:02:32 PM
The Frech are ungrateful bastards, not just to us....but the English.

Poor little England stood alone against the Germans after the French gave up, now the French piss and moan about having to import British goods...it's called a free market you momma's boy pussy girls!

2003-07-01 02:02:38 PM
There are 12 year olds in France!!!

I HATE 12 YEAR OLDS!!!!

2003-07-01 02:02:44 PM
Publikworks:

I didn't say an American took them all down. I said that it could just as well have been if the Americans have the same access to this memorial that they had at the memorials that I visited when I was there. But in actuality, I believe the pictures were photoshopped like many of the others here have been saying. I'm just tired of people bashing other countries when they have no knowlegde of what is going on and instead are relying on stereotypes.

Pontechango:

If they oopposed the "war" for moral reasons, then their morals are farked up.

What's worse: a beret wearing psychopath who enforces marshall law while executing random ethnic groups or a large contingent of United States soldiers policing a state in uprising?

2003-07-01 02:04:47 PM
And Thailand! Man, those guys dont give Mayanmar a break! Mayanmar is just trying to get to bed early for work, but Thailand is always partying, disturbing thier neighbor. Whew!

Maybe we should send them our terror Llamas

2003-07-01 02:04:48 PM
Salmacis: That merely proves that Blix can't read, either. Seriously, have you *read* 1441? Give it a try.

I think Blix is likely to be a lot smaerter than either you or I. Anyway, yes I have. 1441 refers to "serious consequences" if Iraq failed to comply. In UN-speak, that means referral back to the security council. The USA and Britain decided, against all UN precident, that that was justification for war.

2003-07-01 02:05:28 PM
Everyone hates the French, and this is just more reason why. I guess the Brits are pretty pissed off now that they have the Chunnel built. Maybe they should close it. And then we can glass over Paris.
I never cared for French cooking, and I've found French women to be less than decent as lovers in bed - seriously overrated, both.

2003-07-01 02:05:29 PM
pontechango, you're irredeemably naive if you believe the opposition to the war in Iraq was a moral stance instead of about 90 percent anti-bush, anti-american, pro-their-own-economics in the rest of the world.

2003-07-01 02:05:43 PM
Even though we haven't found WMD I still think going into Iraq was the right decision based on the inhumane things that were happening in that country.

BTW... does anyone think the Democrats have a snowballs chance in hell in this next election? I haven't seen one Dem that looks good. I guess it's another 4 years for Bush.

2003-07-01 02:06:32 PM
Find me a story about Americans doing similar things to French monuments/memorials. That's right. Very few (if any) Americans would ever stoop to this kind of disrespect and contempt. Those stories prove that the hatred for American isn't recent. It has existed since the 1950's. There is no way that you can have that kind of animosity before we even did anything in Iraq unless you already hate the US. This isn't about Iraq, this is about the French hating America. Show me a story about Americans burning the French flag, desecrating the Statue of Liberty, or anything that goes near the level of loathing of the French. Didn't think so.

2003-07-01 02:07:20 PM
How long did Iraq have to clean up it's act? How many years? Left-Wing people didn't get all huffy with Bill Clinton started his own private war without talking to anyone on the day his trial started.

Please. At least Bush has Congress and the UK behind this.

2003-07-01 02:07:31 PM
Check out the big versions at the bottom of the page if you think they're photoshopped:

Publikwerks:

It doesn't look like he removed a flag, but instead he added the flagpoles onto a picture of some trees.

It looks absurdly fake--I don't understand how it could be real.

In July 1778, a French fleet under the command of Admiral Comte Hector d'Estaing arrived off the coast of New York. As he was unable to enter New York's Harbor, and after an unsuccessful attempt to assist General John Sullivan against the British at Rhode Island, he and his fleet withdrew and sailed to the West Indies. By doing so, the British Royal Navy was left unchallenged in American waters.

Yeah....some help the French gave us in The Revolutionary War. Way to run and hide.

Odd we'd find all these American missiles when what we sold to them as illustrated by said graph for you visual learners is a drop in the bucket.

Also, I would expect you to mock and ridicule me if I sent you an article written by two republican talk radio hosts. But I'll offer you the benefit of the doubt.

Further more, the article even has a link to Truthout. I didn't post any Newsmax sources. Jebus.
