I submitted this a while ago as "flippin' off is universial" it got rejected..good luck!

2003-06-30 06:01:25 PM
It's the "it's-giving-me-the-middle-finger and mini-it's-giving-me-the-middle-finger" nebula.

2003-06-30 06:09:43 PM
Wasn't this nebula supposed to be a star factory? Or was that another one?

2003-06-30 09:53:27 PM
Perhaps God is tired of us looking out there?

2003-07-01 09:32:41 AM
Looks more like an index finger. Pointing. Maybe we should head that direction get some moon money.

2003-07-01 09:33:13 AM

Cool picture, who posted it????

How did you find it???

2003-07-01 09:33:17 AM
I want to see the "heavenly bodies humping" nebulae.

2003-07-01 09:34:09 AM
what would GOD want with a starship?

2003-07-01 09:34:19 AM
Ibadge

You'd think with the incorrectly spelled word, you would have been assured a submitted link.

"Congratulations Bart! You just discovered a star!"
Skinner - "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

This is all I need to know about theology.

And it sure explains a lot.

2003-07-01 09:35:43 AM
You guys have such dirty minds. All I see is a superhero flying through a cloud, arm up, with a saved person in tow below.

2003-07-01 09:36:09 AM
Heh. Guess I should have tried posting this yesterday. Didn't think it was the kind of thing that would get posted.

2003-07-01 09:36:11 AM
HOw the He!! did they get Super hero out of it?

2003-07-01 09:36:42 AM
albtraum, nice ST:V ref. :)

And yeah, that really does look like someone giving the finger....hahahhahahahah. :)

/amuses easily

2003-07-01 09:38:31 AM
Anyone else notice on the bigger picture it appears to be flying away from the 'giant vagina' black hole.

No?

2003-07-01 09:39:02 AM

From the site
"This Carina sub-cloud is particularly striking partly because it's clear definition stimulates the human imagination (e.g. it could be perceived as a superhero flying through a cloud, arm up, with a saved person in tow below)".

Yeah right

2003-07-01 09:39:42 AM
Hahaha... I love the veiled reference in the astronomer's description.

This Carina sub-cloud is particularly striking partly because it's clear definition stimulates the human imagination ...

This is the "redundant posting on FARK" thread. It was already linked in yesterday's "graviational wave detector" thread: http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=574792

2003-07-01 09:42:26 AM
I thought that it looked like somebody making a shadow puppet. Out in space, some otherworldly being is saying to another, "Come on, you know what it is!!! Just look at it!! It's a bunny rabbit! What do you mean you don't see it?!"

2003-07-01 09:42:48 AM
I think when you die you become a galaxy.

If I am right this is where the FTW crowd goes.

2003-07-01 09:42:59 AM
Some very cool pics in the archive at that site, especially this one: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap010129.html

2003-07-01 09:43:08 AM
F*ck you too universe!

2003-07-01 09:43:58 AM
I rather get the middle finger from that nebula than get what the Crab Nebula has to offer.

2003-07-01 09:44:33 AM
I think god is telling us all to f*ck off!

2003-07-01 09:44:37 AM
I guess I see the superhero...albiet a very distored character...with mini arms, and almost no legs...

2003-07-01 09:44:50 AM
Even nature hates me.

2003-07-01 09:47:01 AM
look at 'em up there just plotting.....

2003-07-01 09:52:27 AM
CrazyCurt: I think you're thinking of the Eagle Nebula (M16) in Serpens. This site has information on that particular star nursery.

2003-07-01 09:54:35 AM
It says,"This dense cloud of gas and dust is being deleted." Maybe this cloud is just expressing the way all clouds feel when being deleted.

/ducks

"This dense cloud of gas and dust is being deleted."

God's message to humanity.

2003-07-01 10:05:08 AM
I think it's God's personal message to Jews and Muslims.

/I've got nothing.

Will N. Dowd> There are plenty of websites that will let you see "heavenly bodies" humping. Most of them require credit cards.

2003-07-01 10:07:50 AM
Don't let that cloud get near Uranus!

2003-07-01 10:09:46 AM
this is only part of the terrible secret of space

2003-07-01 10:10:06 AM
Explanation: This dense cloud of gas and dust is being deleted. Undoubtedly, a few million years ago, the nebula depicted an arm buried up to the elbow in a young lady's hairy fuzzbox. The intense light from bright stars has boiled it away to its present, less offensive, state.

2003-07-01 10:11:23 AM
This Carina sub-cloud is particularly striking partly because it's clear definition stimulates the human imagination (e.g. it could be perceived as a superhero flying through a cloud, arm up, with a saved person in tow below).

Nice weak attempt to get people to think it's something other than exactly what it looks like....

Cool pic though.

Too bad I can't see it from where I live, though I doubt my little scope could pick it up anyway...

I submitted this a while ago as "flippin' off is universial" it got rejected..good luck!

Another universal phenomena: The "I-submitted-this-earlier-with-a-funnier-headline" post.

JeffF, maybe somebody will remember him. Nah.

"that farking galaxy cut me off! you farking blackhole!"

2003-07-01 10:16:25 AM
In the bigger picture, it looks like it's flippin' off a chicken.

PhaetonGrim, can't quite see it in my Tak FSQ-106 Triplet Apochromatic Refractor either.

thats what god thinks of what weve done to the world.

2003-07-01 10:30:42 AM
What's a fighter doing out here all alone? Maybe it got cut off from a convoy, or...oh, wait. It's headed toward that small nebula.

(Looks again)

That's no Nebula.

(Dramatic pause)

It's a space station.

(Dramatic music: Dun Duhn DUUUHN!)

2003-07-01 10:38:35 AM
Hey, I recognize that finger! So that's what ET's been up to since we sent him home.

2003-07-01 10:42:28 AM
It's a trap...

2003-07-01 10:51:30 AM
You know, maybe I'm just naive, but I find it perfectly believable that nobody at NASA caught the whole 'middle finger' thing.

It's the same system that allows movies like Battlefield Earth and Navy Seals to be released. Everybody's working too hard to get a finished product, and nobody takes a step back, looks around, and says "Whoa, wait a minute. This blows."

That being said, I'm sure NASA knows about it now that it's going to make its rounds on the internet as the definitive proof of God (or at least his middle finger) existing.

::Sigh::

/Waiting for the image to show up on Snopes
