that review was bankrupt of style, direction, amusement, intelligence, and even basic knowledge of the film and lexicon allegedly being reviewed.

so . . . which fark admin or mod's friend wrote it?

2003-06-30 07:59:54 AM
A more relevant question is posed.
Could the admins approve dumber links for the main page?

2003-06-30 08:00:59 AM
Is the reviewer aware it's based on a comic book? He seems to be blaming the movie for having a big, green, strong central character who does unbelievable things.

"Could there possibly be a dumber subject for a movie?"

Yes. I'm not going to list them, see yesterdays worst movie thread.

2003-06-30 09:12:44 AM
ooooh, nihil8r, they'll whack your peepee if you don't watch out!

2003-06-30 09:13:19 AM
and the answer to the question is yes - "From Justin to Kelly, Straight to Video".

2003-06-30 09:32:12 AM
Could there possibly be a dumber subject for a movie?

"Reeeeallllllyyyy - It bugs the heck outta Deena and me."

2003-06-30 09:47:42 AM
Comic Book movies .. what did the writer of that article expect? A chick flick?

2003-06-30 10:01:29 AM
Lately the admins have been greenlighting pretty crappy articles for the sake of flamewars and general stupidity. Oh well, at least I catch them on totalfark!

2003-06-30 11:50:46 AM
The movie stars Eric Bana, who's best known for being unknown.

Come on--that's funny. And for those making fun of Fark posting this link, at least it's not another site that's best known for being posted on Fark.

2003-06-30 01:19:06 PM
It's Clash of the Titans when the Hulk takes on some monster dogs, including a mutant French Poodle. Where is this, Beverly Hills?

Hahahahhahahahahahahaha!

Wait. That's not funny, it's incredibly stupid.

2003-06-30 01:43:34 PM
I didn't read it.

2003-06-30 01:48:11 PM
Wasn't Banya the lame comic who gave Jerry his suit?

2003-06-30 01:51:14 PM
Did anybody see Hulk? I thought it was one of the funniest movies I'd seen in a while, reaching a level of camp not seen since "The Return of Swamp Thing." I enjoyed it, but not for the reasons I was supposed to. Brother.

2003-06-30 01:52:41 PM
From what I hear it really sucks.

2003-06-30 01:53:45 PM
The Hulk does not suck. Just because you want it to suck or it did not do what you wanted does not mean it sucked.

2003-06-30 01:53:51 PM
Feh.
(apologies to Wil)

2003-06-30 01:55:25 PM
Fruitest writer I've read today, with a "No Closet Can Hold Me!" clause....

2003-06-30 01:59:12 PM
this movie kicked all sorts of ass

2003-06-30 01:59:21 PM
Hulk was a cool flick. It was pretty artsy (for the current trend of Marvel comic book movies).

2003-06-30 02:00:41 PM
hey, this is better than a "Something Awful" link

2003-06-30 02:01:00 PM
I'm sorry, but The Hulk did suck. It took about an hour to even see the green guy, and there were about 3 scenes where Hulk actually smashed anything. The rest was painfully slow and boring emotional bullsh!t.

The movie was actually uncomfortable to watch, it was so bad.

2003-06-30 02:01:04 PM

Ralph Snart would make a way crazy go nuts movie!

2003-06-30 02:01:42 PM
I've never seen The Hulk and I have no opinion on it, but this guy still strikes me as a complete dinglefark.

2003-06-30 02:02:15 PM
Dont go and bash comic book movies unless you are a legitimate fan and think it deserves a sucky rating. Comic book movies are made to be taken for what theyre worth. Im sick of hearing all these whiny ass reviews from over critical reviewers. Its getting out of hand. Everyone is wayyy too opinonated. As for links on the main page, I agree, they are getting pretty lame. I mean for christs sake, we didnt even include Bruce Campbells birthday yet we post Hulk reviews weeks after it came out@!@@@@$@!!!!11

2003-06-30 02:03:29 PM
Could there possibly be a dumber subject for a movie?

Yes, there can:

I mean come on the dog is wearing shoes

2003-06-30 02:03:37 PM
You mean a comic book character made into a tv show starring a professional wrestler made into a movie with a computer animated main character sucks?

Well I'll be damned.

/thought Spiderman sucked, too.

2003-06-30 02:03:54 PM
Personally, I'd like to see:

2003-06-30 02:03:54 PM
To all those complaining about how the Hulk jumps and bounces, leaping miles in a single bound...

try reading a comic book once in a while.

2003-06-30 02:05:54 PM
Hefty Smurf would whoop Hulk's arse!!

2003-06-30 02:06:56 PM
It was a very good movie and is probably one of the better ideas for a movie. The HUlk has been one of marvel's best selling comic books ever. The second oldest comic next to Spiderman (Marvel).

2003-06-30 02:07:02 PM
I thought the Hulk was one of ther better comic book translations. Spiderman was too "pop" cultured and batman... well I just won't go their. Spawn was also ruined by pop culture. Why does there have to be a good and evil. The Hulk really had neither.

The comic cell scenes were well placed and added to the comic book feel. The CGI was better than I expected. i really believe people are being just a little too picky. I wish more comic translations would stick to their roots. I am still waiting on a good Spawn remake.

2003-06-30 02:12:48 PM
I think it has long been established that Movie Juice pays for the links. No way else something that stupid could get a link. Unless a mod works there. What an utterly worthless review.

The Hulk wasn't Shakespeare, but it was the first accurate visual portrayal of a comic on the screen. Lee should get kudos just for that.

That said, it REALLY dragged in places. They needed to kick the pacing up a lot more to make it work completely.

2003-06-30 02:13:15 PM
Comic books are just too riduculous to make a decent movie most of the time. For some reason people are ok with comic books having total nonsense plot elements, but that sort of thing doesn't work in a movie. People complained when Spiderman had mutated natural web shooters instead of them being an invention of super genious Peter Parker. If you think about it, the comic book's explanation makes less sense. Because plot holes are excusable in comic books. With The Hulk, the whole concept is just too silly for a serious, emotional blockbuster.

2003-06-30 02:18:11 PM
How about "Watering the Apple: How New Yorkers Get their Water?" That one seemed to have em on the edge of their seats.

2003-06-30 02:18:12 PM

Could there possibly be a dumber critic for a movie than Mark Ramsey ? Is this review a cautionary tale of the consequences of taking one too many up the bunghole ? To put a face to the article, here is the Esteemable Mark Ramsey, who couldn't write a good article if he had help from Jayson Blair.

2003-06-30 02:25:14 PM
Yeah the problem is that I can suspend my disbelief when it comes to a guy turning into a green monster after he was exposed to gamma rads, but for some reason I just can't when it comes to that same green monster being able to jump really far and do other feats of impossible strength.

It seems the real problem is that quite a few people grew up being exposed only to the TV series Hulk, and not the Comic Book.

Saying that a movie about a comic book is being unrealistic is like saying, "I can buy the whole turning water into wine, healing the lame, and rising from the dead... but walking on water? Puh-lease"

2003-06-30 02:33:08 PM
The HULK could have been ok, if it hadn't fallen apart at the end. I mean what the hell was the last 20 minutes of that movie?
Nick turns into a power sucking, anti-everything ranting, blob of goo? Just didn't get it.

You could see what Ang was going for the whole time and I appreciated it. Unfortunately, something that stylized only works when done in a whay that you don't think "I see what he is going for" the whole time.

Just my pair of pennies.

2003-06-30 02:37:17 PM
The character that Nick Nolte turned into is a guy known as "Absorbing Man", one of the Hulk's classic opponents.

2003-06-30 02:39:04 PM
and the answer to the question is yes - "From Justin to Kelly, Straight to Video".

I was reading movie reviews in the local paper (on a campus town, but not the school paper), and they actually gave that movie 1/2 a star. The new Charlie's Angels "film" got zero.

2003-06-30 02:39:30 PM
Ok. heres how it should be. IF YOU DONT LIKE COMIC BOOKS TURNED INTO MOVIES....DONT GO SEE THEM THEN COMPLAIN HOW MUCH THEY SUCKED. its as simple as that.

2003-06-30 02:44:29 PM
HULK was pretty good movie considering. For all those who say his powers were unreal or just plain stupid read the comic. Do not watch the series. His powers were toned down in the series because of the cost of special effects and they wanted to appeal to an older audience. Saying the hulk looks fake is like calling a puppet unreal. It supposed to be. Comic books are works of fiction if it were reality it wouldnt be a good comic book.

2003-06-30 02:44:47 PM
Wow. Another clever movie critic with a negative review of The Hulk full of witty banter. Good job.

2003-06-30 02:45:01 PM
edsel
Thanks. I quit reading the Hulk in about 1992, so I don't remember/know that guy. Does he turn into a giant blob cloud in the comics?

And what was up with the Gamma nukes that are never really explained (or maybe there were when I went to the bathroom).

2003-06-30 02:50:02 PM
gert-b-frobe: what if you like those kind of movies but this particular one sucked?

2003-06-30 02:58:52 PM
That picture of the article's writer is shocking. I was sure he was under 18. That article's not worth the memory it takes up in Microsoft Notepad. Shame on the mods for lacking taste and dropping the ball on this one.

2003-06-30 02:59:29 PM
That review was painful to read. Can we please never post anything like that again?

2003-06-30 03:00:50 PM
Saw it -- for all the bad press, that's a decent flick. Script could have used some work, but the composition was usually nice, sometimes beautiful (that shot of The Hulk bouncing around in a sand dune was pretty). And! The CGI is the best to date -- same quality as Gollum, but with far more complexity in movement.

2003-06-30 03:01:18 PM
If you all couldn't tell from the latent homosexual undertones of this review...they only thing Mark Ramsey rave about that is big and green is the butt plug permanently fixed to his chair...

2003-06-30 03:03:35 PM
You know the Hulk's not supposed to be real, right?
