I'm still upset about the Michelle Obama room servicegate.

you should see the fish Hillary ate when she was on the road...

If 34% of Republicans believe Obama is Muslim, I'm sure that 99% believe this was true also.

Wouldn't it be a shame if the 1st lady of USA cannot afford $450 bill?

/Don't know its true or false, but who cares, as long as she is paying out of her own pocket? Oh, I know who will care, those that screams socialism all the time.

Mr. Right: It could be that I've just missed it but is there a reason for his trip to India? Because of the expense, logistics and security concerns, Presidents usually need a pretty good reason to travel outside the U.S. I haven't heard a reason for this trip but I could have just missed it.

1) India has a billion people, and is quickly advancing in the areas of science and technology.
2) They have a democratic government.
3) They used to be a former British Colony and use English as their official government language.
4) Their economy is rapidly expanding.
5) Their people have a very positive view of the United States.

They could be one of biggest and most beneficial allies in the world. We would be stupid not to increase positive relations with them.

Well...why IS he going to India?

Only reason I can fathom is to visit all of the tech jobs that used to be here in the United States that have been farmed out to India because companies can get it done for 1/2 the price.

Probably because India is the fastest growing economy in the world and will probably be a trade partner for a very long time.

BTW, employees in India make a lot less than 1/2 what Americans make. Average income in India comes out to less than $5,000 a year.

I_C_Weener: eraser8: I_C_Weener: I guess my question right now is, why not give us a number that it does cost instead of saying, "Its not what you think. Now, go away."

The costs of presidential security are never revealed, since such numbers might give insight to the way presidential security operates.

Yeah, but the costs of trips often are.

What is the purpose of the trip by the way? I really don't know much about this trip other than the navy is escorting him, and someone, somewhere said it was $200 million a day (which is, as was said, more than the Afghan war costs).

Heaven forbid that you actually do some reading before coming in here to derp all over the floor. Now go get a mop and a copy of the WSJ and get to work.

I can't wait til we hear the stories about how John Boehner used government aircraft to fly back and forth from Washington to his home several times a year.

I figure the "Nancy Pelosi flys in private jumbo jets by herself using taxpayer money" is the redheaded step-child of the "The Obama family spends too much money on vacations".

india is a huge trade partner. presidents visit trade partners all the time. why is this an issue?

Please, it ain't even just that.

We rely heavily on both India and Pakistan to support our operations in Afghanistan -- the one area of the world where we had a legitimate reason to go to war AND the full backing of the international community. Both India and Pakistan do so despite it being a source of significant internal friction -- and let's not forget that those two countries have been at each others' throats since they were created, and have nearly gone to the brink of nuclear war at least once over the disputed region of Kashmir.

Perhaps if our last president had paid attention to stuff like that rather than chasing phantoms and destabilizing the middle east by invading Iraq....nah, to be honest, it probably wouldn't matter.

I want our president to pay close attention to countries that are vital to our international security and trade.

DamnYankees: GAT_00: So you think you have the right to know classified information? As people have pointed out, knowledge of the number could give information about security operations. Hell, we know it's fake because the hotel they rented 700 rooms or whatever at doesn't even have that many room, it has 500 rooms! You're following a red herring, just "asking questions" exactly the way the people who made this up want you to.

It's called "McCarthyism". It's not specifically about communism or terrorism or teh liberalism, it's about having an enemy in your mind and desiring to take them down through the process of public humiliation and faux inquiry. It's just Alfred Dreyfuss playing itself over and over and over again.

Something Dems have done anytime a Rep has been elected or spoke or said any thing that the Dems may not like. Face it Dems have perfected this tactic started long before McCarthy. Reps have learned to fight with the same tactics and now the poor Dems thinks it's too mean. :(

I heard that Hawaii had a special circumcision method that was used nowhere else in the world when Obama was allegedly born there and all the children born there had to have it done. All we have to do is get them to make him pull his pants down in court and we can get him impeached. Someone file a lawsuit and make him pull his pants down. See what the judge says.

Angry Clinton Lashes Out at GOP Critics (new window), March 15, 1994

"Why . . . are we confronted in this Administration with an opposition party that just stands up and says, 'no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,' " Clinton demanded, punctuating each negative with a fist pounded against his lectern, his voice rising in apparent anger and emotion.

The Republicans, Clinton said, were "committed to the politics of personal destruction" and had mounted an "overridingly negative, intensely personal, totally political, devoid-of-principle attack (that is) not good for the country."

Just thought I'd drop that off and see how everyone is doing in this thread here.

Why weren't these same people asking about the hundreds of millions spent on George Bush's visit to Africa in 2008?

I didn't question the cost then, and I'm not questioning the cost now.

I just wonder why some people are awfully interested in the pricetag of this trip when during similarly hard times didn't register a peep from them.

No idea. He's not president now. I'm asking now. Why can't I get an answer now?

What I did find when I googled it was that Bush was constantly asked about his trips to fundraise.

some of the data you are requesting is classified. similar data from the clinton and bush overseas trips is STILL classified.

why do you bother to "just ask questions" when you continually profess to not understand the answer. are you really this dense?
