Pandas are highly overrated. Even the reptile exhibit at the zoo is more exciting.

I never understood the appeal of pandas, though I have never seen one in person. They just seem so lazy and uninteresting.

Maybe because I live where the "good" bears, Grizzly and black, roam.

I went to this zoo about 7 years ago, and the Panda exhibit was basically a glass box with a bunch of signs that said "no touching glass, be quiet". The box was surrounded by screaming children all pounding on the glass while their parents absentmindedly stood off to the side. It was ear-splittingly loud.

A. It was a pathetic statement on both parenting and ATL Zoo's continual commitment to running a crappy zoo.
B. No wonder those poor things never get pregnant. You try getting it on with 100 children screaming at you.

Let me tell you something my friend. I come from a little town in Ohio, Waterville. Maybe you've heard of it. Back in '91, a traveling circus came to town, with a panda as one of their main attractions. Sure, it was all cute and could do tricks, but unfortunately, as with all pandas, he had an unquenchable taste for corndogs. A young circus attendee got a little too close with his corndog, and the panda lunged towards him. He panicked, ran backwards, and frightened Jumbo the elephant, who, in a panic, thundered out of the big tent and into the parking lot where he stepped on, and killed, my puppy, Dwayne.
Since that day, no panda has been a friend of mine.

Whaddaya, whaddaya? Atlanta has a great zoo. Best gorilla exhibit ANYWHERE, and the rest of it's not bad. Better than Berlin, anyway, where they have a lot of the animals locked in tiny cages, and obviously going nuts.

Deforestation? Poaching? Development? New predators? You do realize that until recently they had almost no natural predators to evolve to defend themselves from, right? And that humans really didn't like living in bamboo forests?

You'd be surprised... or not... at how many Farkers genuinely think that animals like Pandas or Koalas should just be left to die off. Not even in a troll sense either, so forgive the serious answer.

Ah Panda's. They cost the Zoo 1 Million a year (you rent them from China) and all babies have to be sent back to China.

I hate giant pandas. They are a huge waste of money and basically political tools for the Chinese government. When China "gives" you a panda, you have to pay them a million dollars a year. And the cute little babies they have? They are property of the PRC, so you have to pay for them too. The money is supposed to go to protecting pandas, but you know it's just lining the pockets of the government.

I finally got a chance to visit the San Diego Zoo recently, something I've wanted to do for ages. The Panda exhibit was only visible by entering a single path with a single line. That line was longer than half the lines at Disneyland combined. Our comment was basically "fark that" and we skipped it completely.

Pandas are weird because the myth that they only live in China, but they are really in other places on Earth as well. It only looks like the pandas are in China because we are used to the black and white pandas, which is only because they eat bamboo which grows in China. But pandas in other countries live fine, they just can't eat the bamboo that gives them the cute black/white pattern, instead they eat other plants such as eucalyptus which makes them boring grey or in Africa they eat kasava which makes them brown. But people are convinced by China that only China pandas are the real ones.

On the off hours the panda is outsourced to cosmetics firms. The testing pays for the daytime bandwidth.
