In a related story, I gotta get on Headline of the Year. It's goddamn November already. It's easy enough to pull the HOW candidates from the different weeks, but I still have to sort through the rest of it (Parents of the Year, Dumbass of the Year, Puns/Wordplay).

Also a bunch of headlines I saved that for the new Context Headline contest this year. That one will be awesome as long as the links are still available next month.

The owner of Reddit asked if the Internet was instrumental in getting the rally going. Stewart and Colbert thanked the site owner for his monetary donations and brushed the internet off as "it didn't hurt" the rally.

To me, it sounded like Stewart and Colbert think that ONLY their 11:00-12:00 slot was instrumental in organizing people and resources. No Facebook posts, no Huffington Post, no Fark, no Reddit, no 4chan, no nothing. Just the time slot they use on CC supplied turnout numbers.

The Reddit owner was fishing for a reply of something like "It was a rally for the people, by the people. The people used the Internet to help pull together resources to make this happen and give us a good turnout." instead he got "it didn't hurt" and a "WTF is this shiat" look. This was after they made fun of him being a blogger.

I mean seriously, you don't think that's a little arrogant?

Heh, I don't (as the frequency at which I greenlight dupes can attest), but I asked the root admins to make a tool for me that I could use to flag threads. Their original idea was just having me favorite threads, but that begins to get unwieldy after the first few hundred.

Uhm, ignoring the Derp here, the person actually asked how the internet affected the decision to hold the rally. Which as they said it provided affirmation that the rally should be held after they'd already decided to do it. Donor here and Drew went overboard and completely misread the question and we got 3000 posts of people telling them to stop being stupid.

Some Beer Snob: "Context" headline of the year? Like taking something out of context? Wouldn't that just be word play?

No, it's when the headline--standing on its own--isn't particularly funny, but when you click on the link, it's hilarious. And we actually get a lot of those that deserve recognition.

wtf are you going on about? From Comedy Central's response to Drew's rant:

If only there were somebody from Reddit to explain exactly how red hot their anger is over this slight. Like, maybe Reddit admin Mike "Raldi" Schiraldi...

I appreciate Drew Curtis' looking out for us, but honestly, we had a great time and don't really care about who gets the credit.

At "best", we convinced Comedy Central to pull the trigger on something they were kicking around indecisively and might have otherwise not done.

At "worst", they were totally committed to doing it anyway and we "just" pulled off an incredible donation movement for a really good cause, beefed up attendance numbers, and got to meet hundreds of redditors in person.

I think I speak for all the staff when I say that we love Jon and Stephen, regret nothing, and don't feel anyone owes us an apology.

Edit: That said, Fark is cool and we like Drew. : )

Drew seemed arrogant yesterday, Redditt seemed sane.
