Who would have thought that people who got their political views from comedians would not understand the sign? I thought only people with genius level IQs and keen insight into political discourse listened to Jon Stewart... that only those smart enough to get all of their perspective from The Daily Show were smart enough to decide what's best for this country.

WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED THAT THIS MIGHT NOT BE TRUE?!??!?

Good crap, but people have their panties twisted these days. That's why you should all elect me as dictator for life. No more of these tedious arguments about politics, since there's nothing you can do about them anyway! Just let me run things, and you can all just forget about it and go have fun.

To be honest, I didn't pick it up right away either. I suppose I just assumed it was a sign from one of the retards that thinks President Obama is from Kenya. Why didn't the reported say, "No, Keynesian is an economic theory."? I'm sure the interviewees would have picked that up immediately and had a more intelligent conversation.

That is quite possibly the most optimistic post I have ever seen.

Every honest economist is some form of Keynesian.

It's telling the honest from the dishonest that's tricky, but fortunately you can start by finding out if they denounce Keynes.

See, the "will you sign this petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide" bit is funny, because people are banning water without actually understanding what they're signing.

Here, you've got people incorrectly assuming that the sign and such are written by the kinds of illiterate douchemongers who've been writing similarly erroneous signs, and making points based on that assumption.

It would be funny if the Tea Party hadn't provided plenty of room to make their assumption perfectly legitimate.

Weak. You are the weakest of weaksauce.

I'm absolutely certain that 100% of 'baggers, including yourself, would not have recognized this term.

Do you really think tricking a handful of people with what obscure reference really compares to the responses from 'baggers to simple questions like "why are you here?" ?

But hey, if this makes you feel better, go to town, Sparky. Grab your little weenie and rub one out to it. Stewart's fans will still be smarter than you.

Does it make you feel better calling me a derogatory term (I'm not a Tea Partier, either) and making personal insults? You can also read my mind! Wow! I saw "Keynesian" and knew exactly what it referred to, but what ther hell, it defies your expectations and broad brush with which you paint all those who dare to defy your point of view!

I'll give you a 6/10 on the troll meter, though...

"This whole thing is predicated on the guy mispronouncing Keynes - which is pronounced /ˈkeɪnz/

It's not pronounced "Kenzian" it's pronounce "Canezian"

Actually, it's predicated on the fact that politically charged people don't know how to pay attention to the details.

First, there was a sign with he correct spelling.
Second, he never said Kenyan. He said, albeit incorrectly, Kenyesian.
Third, if he were to have an accomplice that carried a sign that instead said "OBAMA = N_GGER?" with a poorly, narrowly drawn "A" in the blank, would you honestly expect anything but outraged responses?

The COMEDY GROUP proved their point, and VERY EFFECTIVELY.

Almost everyone trolled themselves in this video...except the couple at 1:12, and bravo for them!

Don't be too sure, boyo. Though in fairness, these ideas are regarded as obsucre by the New York Times (new window).

BTW, just because you disagree with someone does not make them an idiot.

Honestly, I'm flabbergasted that even one person in that video knew what the sign meant, although he wasn't sure yet if he is or not. Basic economics should be a mandatory subject to graduate from high school.

"The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else. Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist."

So using a relatively obscure word that just happens to sound kinda like another word and getting people to mistake one for the other... That proves that these people are stupid?

So how long until someone pulls this same gag at a tea party rally and gets a bunch of morons to agree for the same mistaken assumption?

Which group of people would be considered more stupid?

"Keynesian" is not obscure.

Anyone who has been paying attention to the debate over the last two years on the role of government and the proper government fiscal/monetary response to a recession has been inundated with Keynes/Hayek economic philosophical analysis.

To not know what "Keynesian" means, just shows you're not really all that informed on the issues, at least the economic ones.

YES WE CAN!
