John Lennon on national currency? They might as well have voted for Harry Potter.

Should have gone with John Logie Baird instead. The man invented television.

Or perhaps it would be best to wait until it becomes possible to mint a coin with a little LCD screen and receiver in it.

Lennon references Walter Raleigh in the song "I'm So Tired" (in which he's called a stupid git). He was also one of the other choices for being on the coin mentioned in TFA.

Sir Walter Raleigh was an ass. Smart, but an arrogant prick. There's a reason why he was hated in Elizabeth's court, and not just because of the rivalry for her attention.

Lennon always despised Aristocracy and inherited wealth/Power. he saw first hand the damage they do to nations and people.

he was a working class hero.

Harry Pothead would be more accurate.

Lennon would have farking hated having his face on money. Especially a limited edition coin that costs a ton. They could have found a better way to honor (honour) him.

Look, Percy, the return of Sir Walter "Ooh what a big ship I've got" Raleigh is a matter of supreme indifference to me.

Yeah, but he got shot, so the idiots with the purse strings want to make a martyr out of him, or something. Who cares what he would've thought anyway? He was a dickbag.

"Despised" is the wrong word there; after all, he married the daughter of a very wealthy international banker.

The reference to Raleigh was because Sir Walter Raleigh -who introduced tobacco to England- appeared on the packet for Lennon's favorite brand of cigarettes at the time. Lennon later switched to Gauloises Blues and was unable to quit them (though he gave up every other drug he'd been addicted to) before the end of his life.

Gordon Bennett: Should have gone with John Logie Baird instead. The man invented television.

The irony is that Lennon, a TV enthusiast, would have voted for Baird as well.
