How about "Jesus Built My Hotrod", by Ministry?

That's the one I was trying to think of. Excellent choice! I'm voting for it.

Pittsburgh Polka!
(The 1970 version ... the updates are never as good)
Da-Da-Da-Da-Ta-Da - Charge!

We're from the town with that great football team,
We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chuck Noll and all his friends are all on the field.
Go out and get them Steelers.

Bradshaw, and Rocky, and Franco and Lynn,
We love you Pittsburgh Steelers.
It's been many years in coming,
just keep that Steelers machinery humming

Defense, Defense, make them scramble, intercept that ball.
Defense, Defense, keeps the Steelers always best of all!
Mean Joe, Mean Joe, do your thing against the other team,
You start from year to year, we're so glad you play here,
Now join with me, and sing the Steelers cheer-er-ER!

We're from the town with that great football team,
We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Winning's a habit, not only a dream,
Go out and get them Steelers!

Gerela's Gorrilas are here for the show,
and so is Franco's Army,
It's been many years in coming,
just keep that Steelers machinery humming.

Offense, Offense, take that football whole way up the field!
Offense, Offense, let's score and score and never ever yield!
Franco, Franco, can you believe we have a running game?

The Steelers are so great, and so hard to overrate,
Good things, will come, to those who work and wait.

Charge!

I hope to goodness that Gary Glitter isn't getting any royalties from this. The guy was thrown out of Thailand for messing with little boys, for crying out loud.

A vote for me is a vote against pedophilia and child pornography.

Some songs that aren't stadium anthems (far as I know), but should be:

808 State - In Yer Face
Front 242 - Rhythm of Time
Information Society - Peace & Love, Inc.
King's X - Groove Machine
Laibach - the Final Countdown (cover)

And I must admit that if I ever heard "Invasion of the Gabber Robots" by the Laziest Men on Mars at a baseball game when the home team had the bases loaded, I would be able to die happy.

I would say that second to Queen's stuff, The Final Countdown just has a really good sound and majestic feel to it. I remember hearing it at MSG for Knick games and it always seem to give the crowd and the team a boost.

What happened to Blur's "Song #2?"

2003-06-26 05:41:27 PM
Another "isn't, but should be" that I forgot above: VNV Nation, "Honour." Especially the 2003 remix.

Cheap Trick - Ain't That a Shame

2003-06-26 05:44:42 PM
I can't believe nobody has mentioned the annoying soccer oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh song that I don't know what it's called. The Vancouver Canucks use it after they score, too.

(With no voting, because it's potentially the most annoying sports song ever).

King's X - Groove Machine

Egad, another King's X fan on FARK? You mean there are two of us?

I still get disgusted when Rush Limbaugh uses the guitar riff from "Sometime" when he returns from commercial break. It's been years since I've been forced to listen to that asshat, so I don't know if he still does it.

Sweet Home Alabama, before Alabama football games. Even better when Skynyrd comes down to play it themselves (last year's homecoming). 85,000 drunken rednecks adding their own modification to the song (I'll spare the modification, it's really REALLY stupid)...you can feel the stadium shake.

Oh, and did anyone notice that playing the songs long enough on the ESPN thingy will make the fourth guy from the right stand up and dance?

For the gaelic folks among us :)

I can't stand Cotton Eyed Joe.
I cringe every time they play it at Thrasher's games because it means all the little kids are going to start jumping around like morons to the music in an effort to get on the Jumbotron. It always works.

2003-06-26 05:58:23 PM
What's that song they always play at Shea during dramatic moments? It sounds kinda Van Halen-ish.

2003-06-26 06:00:26 PM
Celine Dion: Titanic themesong
/please don't shoot me

Anything with some driving guitar is great. The Scorpians have been mentioned. A couple of my favoties:
The Who - Won't get fooled again (one of the best rock songs of all time)
Deep Purple - Hush - Smoke on the Water
Been mentioned, but: Chumbawumba - Tubthumping
We are the Champions, by Queen, is a natural for stadiums.

I'm gonna be watching next NFL season to see if I hear anybody playing Who Let the Dogs Out, that song overstayed it's welcome before it got here.

Oh, by the way, acaciaavenue, you're from Montana too? I'm just south of Billings.

2003-06-26 06:01:01 PM
Oh yea, Firestarter, by the Prodigy. Best played before the 2nd period starts.

2003-06-26 06:01:07 PM
Although I hate the Yankees with a passion, when they play "Enter Sandman" by Metallica when they bring in Mariano Rivera, it gives me chills.

There's Only One Way to Rock -- Van Halen
Bohemian Rhapsody -- Queen
Most of what KISS does.

2003-06-26 06:18:59 PM
I'm always partial to the Star Wars theme when the Avs win.

and quarlie bless you for including Peace & Love, Inc. Probably not the best stadiumn anthem but a cool song nonetheless.

2003-06-26 06:23:07 PM
"New Second Line", a brass band piece, played only in the Superdome at Saints games. Nothing like hearing that trumpet blare when they score a touchdown.

A vote for me is a vote for being to loaded on Bloody Maries to actually remember how they blew that fourth quarter lead.

Any old Hartford Whalers fans in here?
I can't think of the name of the song
but they had a real cool one they played
after goals and when taking the ice.

In arena football, the NY dragons have "Puff the Magic Dragon" play when they come out. It "puffs" them up. That wasn't funny at all.

A number of ECHL people online here.

IceGators fan myself, though I don't get to see them nearly as much since the Birmingham team folded.

I was at a Baylor Bears college baseball game a couple years back. During one of the breaks they started playing the music from RBI Baseball for the NES in all it's 8bit glory.

2003-06-26 06:58:56 PM
Out of ESPN's list, for a hockey game, I got to pick "Get Ready for This".

But my choice off their list would be "Welcome to the Jungle" when the visitors take take to the ice/field.

2003-06-26 07:01:04 PM
"Smack My biatch Up" - whenever Jason Kidd is playing. Hahaha!

2003-06-26 07:11:15 PM

Hands down, the Bulls' intro music during the glory days of "Sirius" was tingly-inducing. And although they beat the Nets, I must give credit to the Spurs for using The Undertaker's first theme from wayyyyyyyyyy back to introduce the visiting theme. Excellent.

Later.
