So... if I like Pyrilia aurantiocephala, I may also enjoy a Bolivian river dolphin?

But exploring space is a huge priority, right? Cubic light years of vacuum, very important.

Wait, being deadly and being delicious are mutually exclusive properties?

I decided never to visit the amazon when I read that you can catch an infection by pissing in the river, because the bacteria swim UP your urine stream.

I read a book by a biologist who worked in the drier parts of South America and found biodiversity at least as great as in the Amazon. In North America, the wildlife of the forested East is surprisingly monotonous compared to the wildlife of the West. In the squirrel family only about 8 of the 70 or so species are native to the part east of the Mississippi (three tree squirrels, two flying squirrels, one or two ground squirrels, chipmunk, groundhog).

Good question. Apparently that snake was known in 1936.

Exploring vacuum, no. Developing lifeless offplanet resources instead of destroying vital habitats, most definitely yes. Getting to know these unique species as we kill them off won't do them any good.
