Surpheon: Maestro1701: First of all, I actually want Obama to succeed. I'm not a Republican, nor am I a conservative. But this list needs a reality check here...

In reality, items 3 (Lilyledbetter), 9 (executive order), 13 (Bush tried this too actually), 14, 16, 24, 26, 28, 35, 40, and 87 (health insurance regulation) alone are enough to have his accomplishments on par with the top 10 presidents ever. Certainly more than any president since Reagan, with the Newt/Clinton team coming closest with their welfare reform. And his term's only half over.

Yeah, the list is reaching for quantity, but the Big 3 legislative achievements, plus the decision to regulate carbon dioxide are plenty for less than two years in office. He's managed to cram some big things into those two years.

Maestro1701: "And his term's only half over."

That statement assumes he will be a one term President.

Not sure how that assumes he will be a one term President, but I'm not sure why that matters anyhow. If the Republicans don't take the House next week, then it is entirely possible he'll be a one term president. I don't see anything wrong with that. My favorite recent president, edging Clinton by just a little bit, was a single termer: George Bush Sr. Incredibly smart guy, did Iraq right with a real coalition, raised taxes when it was the right thing for the nation, and laid the foundation for the incredible economic boom of the 90's that Clinton often gets credit for.

Nothing wrong with being a one-termer, the American electorate is one the whole morans.

By definition, bus drivers drive a predetermined route, and have NO say as to where the bus goes or when. The whole bus driver analogy fails. Let it go!

This just goes to show what a slow learner this man is. He's no politician. He should be doing PR for Macys or some shiat.

I mean, it's as if he is in complete denial that he will have less leverage in the years to come, not more. He had supermajorities, and still barely got some of his precious agenda through.

I hope he's ready to have a little humility and play nice now, but I can't say it looks good.

Your reasoned exchange is that he can't say the republicans should sit in the back of a car. It's stupid.

Grass Hopper: L_Ron_Jeremy: For clarification:

"we can't have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back."

"Sit in back" = Republicans are little whining temper tantrum-throwing children. That's where you put such children, in the back of the car, so they don't distract the driver.

"The bus" = Obama did not say anything about "sitting in the back of the bus." Stop being a disingenuous aresehole by implying that that's what he meant.

You may have a point. However, I will point out that if any republican politician had said that Obama should "sit in the back" (without mentioning bus in anyway) nevertheless, hundreds of farkers would now be calling that politician a racist.

Sometimes, the end of the sentence will be presumed, wether you like it or not.

Well, I don't like it, and I don't like when people with no analytical skills lash out with knee-jerk reactions to their own clouded perceptions of events.

Look, if any representative of any political party had made this statement about a minority or someone of a mixed race, it would have a totally different, and yes, racist, meaning. From the last year alone there are plenty of examples of elected representatives or people running for public office who have stepped in the racism shiatpile, but you can't play "tit for tat" with wishful thinking on one side and actual examples on the other.

You can't arbitrarily decide that a traditional description (i.e.: "kids sit in the back of the car") suddenly means something else ("minorities sit in the back of the bus") and charge reverse racism because it's politically expedient, and expect thinking people to keep a straight face.

A lot of people's misguided complaints about Obama are based on parsing not what he is saying or doing, but what they want him to be saying ("death panels," "sit in the back of the bus," etc.) so they can justify their hatred and fear of him. Or, more often, blindly accepting the interpretation of a pundit, AM radio talking head or cable news opinion editorial propagandist on your "political sports team" - whose whole motivation is to frame a verbal attack and create a meme. They never question or investigate anything, they just repeat the meme. They let a paid entertainer decide where they stand and what they think.

They don't like Obama for whatever reason, so they greedily slurp down the most foul, diseased ejaculate from the nearest Koch Brothers/Corporate Lobbyist Suckling GOP-financed gigolo dick and then ask for more.

This is all great news, of course, for the obscenely wealthy control freaks pulling the strings, who would like to bring our democratic government to a screeching halt and go back to the days of poisoning the water supply and hiring child labor to earn an extra 25-cents per quarter for their corporations.

Depends. If you're a racist, then it means you sit in the back of the bus. Then again buses don't have shotgun seats for people to sit in so it can't be a bus and therefore cannot be racist.

If you're sane, non-racist and rational, it means you sit in the back seat and enjoy the ride.

Surfside Graphics: Cookbook's Anarchist: HungryHungry, don't be obtuse. Obama's words were not a gaffe. They were a direction to the young, ignorant children in the room to settle in the backseat and leave the driving to adults.
I was directing the general anger to those that would look for racial undertones in a phrase that was applied to people that have no context for the racial undertone. For instance, calling a white man a "porch monkey" is not racist, since white people have not racially been referred to as "porch monkeys". That was for those that want to make his quote about race.
To you specifically, I was remarking that his phrase was appropriate because it references getting children into the back of a car.
But you know, why read what I wrote when you can project your own feelings of incomprehension and say something alluding to Willy Wonka?
You could have asked for clarification, but you chose to be obtuse so indeed, Good day, Sir!

Hmm...really? So if I call an Asian the unholy 'N' word, no one should complain. Right?
What if I call my friend Eddie a White 'N'-word?
I'm sure he'll totally laugh it off, huh?
Or better, what if Bush the lessor used the phrase "Ride in the back" to a group of Mexican-Americans?...I'm sure there would be absolutely no moral outrage in that case.
Dude, it was a stupid thing to say...whether you like the guy spouting the words or not.

Are you calling the Asian the "N" word to incite anger and response? If so, yes there should be complaints, but not about racism, it's about douchebaggery. Asians have not culturally been referred to as the "N" word [god I hate you for making me write that several times :)] The response you are provoking is annoyance and anger, but they would not take it as an offense to their culture and race, but as a personal attack.

Same thing with white Eddie. Of course, since you're friends it would be a friendly banter. So same thing, he would not take offense on behalf of his race. So I would hope he would laugh it off or else it's fake outrage.

Bush the Lesser referring to Mexican-American and saying "ride in the back" denotes the idea that all Mexican-Americans are laborers and is thus an attack on their cultural identity. So yes, that would be a moral outrage. Same as when he referred to his nephews as my little brown ones. See the difference?

People can always find something to be outraged about, but that does not mean they are right in their outrage. White people cannot take the same offense to a black racial slur just as blacks cannot take the same offense to a white racial slur. Calling a black man "honky" just doesn't take the same a "N".

Therefore, I reassert that Obama did nothing wrong and this is simply manufactured outrage.

HungryHungry, I'm glad we can reason it out, but just like people that read and understand Shakespeare and those that can't. Not seeing the responsible adults versus irresponsible adults (read: child) is not about subjectivity, but about insight.

I'm not the smartest person alive, but I do believe I can understand people's meanings better than a lot of those that are calling to arms about some random racist intonation (which doesn't exist).

Obama has not (to date as President) used racially charged language, so why the hell would anyone think he started now?

I call back to the chicken lady in Nevada(Lowe?). There are those that took her comment to mean that we should bring livestock to our doctor, but what I heard and inferred from her comment was that an equal exchange of something the doctor wants (money) makes for a more direct line of communication between doctor and patient versus the farking telephone game insurance makes it today.

But people only heard the soundbite and went from there. Anyone who judges Obama's comment as only the soundbite (as in Subby's headline) prove themselves incapable of critical thinking.

But of course, you took the time to read my rebuttal and infer more of my meaning rather than whole-handedly dismiss it like tl;dr. So in truth, my anger is not directed at you.

Obama has betrayed a lack of substance. When he was more mysterious, Obama encouraged our belief that there was subterranean depth beneath the gleaming surface. Just give the man some time and out will come the magic. It turned out that vacuous speeches on hope and change were not the thin veneer that concealed great complexity but the very substance itself. I have yet to hear one truly new or exciting idea from Barack Obama since becoming president.

He toed the racial line with the university professor/police stuff a while ago.

It was a verbal gaffe. It was not intended the way "offended people" are taking it, but it is something that some foresight would have prevented. It is more like something that Biden would have said, as Obama usually puts more thought into his statements.

I never thought you were a terrorist sympathizer. I learn more about you every day.

Why do you want Al-Qaeda to win?

mjbok: Cookbook's Anarchist: Obama has not (to date as President) used racially charged language, so why the hell would anyone think he started now?

He toed the racial line with the university professor/police stuff a while ago.

It was a verbal gaffe. It was not intended the way "offended people" are taking it, but it is something that some foresight would have prevented. It is more like something that Biden would have said, as Obama usually puts more thought into his statements.

//Dumb statement, not racially motivated, but many things that are taken that way are not intended that way.

But where do we draw the line of offense? I mean Kee-rist, it's like the Christmas South Park episode where everything has to be taken down because it offends just one person.

At that rate, anything anywhere anytime is offensive and therefore all spoken words are gaffes. That race to the bottom sure is fun.

First and foremost, we need to acknowledge that people are not equal in intelligence, but that offends the dumb people so excuse my gaffe.

Theory Of Null: Wait hold up now..... he never said bus!

"[W]e can't have special interests sitting shotgun."

You can't "sit shotgun" on a bus. There's no seat next to the driver.

/And I see what you did there.

OUR war you mean? Seriously, you have to be the worst troll I have ever encountered. Unless you are actually mentally deficient, in which case you are still an awful stain of a human.
