Oh no...no o!

Republican Answer: Too damn much, minimum wage is killing small business.

Democrat Answer: Not enough. People with entry level jobs or no skills should make enough to feed a family of 4 on.

i'm surprised Scott didn't respond "how should I know? I only steal millions"

Ok, I guess I don't understand what it means to be a multimillionaire:

Why did they spend half the debate talking about Obama, shouldn't they be talking about Florida?

I would fire the moderators.

Well, that comes out to ~$600/yr if someone is working 40 hours a week. To someone on minimum wage that's probably a big farking deal.

Well, we know Scott was within 30 cents. Which isn't that bad. Sink agreeing with him could mean she didn't have a clue and figured if she was wrong, they'd both be wrong. Or she just happened to believe the exact erroneous information that Scott did.

Yeah...Duh works perfectly there. Farking and watching Castle on hulu somehow allowed me to mis-read the sentence I actually quoted. My mind read that as that's how much he donated to his own campaign, not what he used to create those corps.

While I understand this is not feasible in any way, I always liked the idea of making our Governors, Congress people, Presidents, etc. live off the median wage of whatever section of the populace they represent.

Alternatively, it could be multimillionaire in terms of assets not counting liquid assets.

I mean a decent sized 'old family farm' in a now-desirable area can easily bring you over that 2 million in 'net worth' making you a Multimillionaire.

Yet since you're a farmer, you still have no money.

Such is the way.

It's a bigger farking deal to the employers who have to "pay half" of those folks' Social Security and Medicare "contributions."

It's also a big farking deal to thousands, perhaps millions, of unionized workers whose wages are indexed based on the Federal minimum.

As for the Derpfests, the local hipsters are trying to get bus charters, carpools, etc. etc. to go. I tell them that I thought it was far over-done when Beck did it, and that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I remember when the minimum wage was about $2.85 and all the bigwig derps in DC were saying it needed to be higher...

This was when, for example, Arby's was doing it's 5 for $5 roast beef sammiches all the time. Cost of a first-class stamp: $0.25, Cost of a gallon of regular gas: $1.16, Cost of a dozen eggs: $1.00, Cost of a gallon of Milk: $2.78 From this site for the stuff after the sammiches (new window)

Now what do you have?

And some people STILL think raising the minimum wage is a good thing? Do people really think major corporations (and all others) are just going to suck up those losses?

Nope... raise the price on every farking thing to make up for it.

Yeah, if we remove the minimum wage companies will totally lower their prices.

And all of that stuff costs more because the minimum wage went up? A phrase that goes along the lines of 'correlation does not equal causation' comes to mind.

12 eggs are about a dollar, milk is always under 3 bucks, and no one mails anything anyway, so what's your point?

Since the internet was created in the same time period as you describe food prices rising, I conclude that it was the invention of the internet that caused that rise. We must destroy the internet now or starve!

/ It's amazing what conclusions you can arrive at once you realize that correlation IS causation.

Why would any of these people know what the state minimum wage is? Scott runs a health care company, and Sink ran a bank. Most, if not all, of the jobs that these type of companies have pay more than the minimum wage.

Want to know what the minimum wage is? Ask someone who manages a Burger King.

Holy shiat, really? Prices have increased considerably since 1979, and that's minimum wage's fault? Wow. All those damn minimum wage earners buying homes drove the median house price from $65,000 to $225,000, too?

Yeah, its nice that they didn't miss it by much, but come on really? They don't care how it really affects people- they just say the same things their party always says "raise it" or "no more raising it!" for the same reasons. It'd be nice if they could tell me how many people in their state are getting foodstamps and how many children are getting free lunch.

I remember when the minimum wage was about $2.85 and all the bigwig derps in DC were saying it needed to be higher...

Can beat that. Minimum wage was 1.60 an hour. For each and every hour of work I could buy 6.4 gallons of gasoline or 6.4 packs of cigarettes. Gas was .25 cents a gallon, cigarettes .25 a pack.

Wanna do the math on what that would equate to today? It would make you sick. Or so farking pissed off you'd heat up a bucket of tar, grab some feathers and make for Washington, DC with a rail under your arm.

Now I'll leave it up to the rocket scientists on the left to explain why gasoline and cigarettes need to be taxed to such an extent, and have that money flow into Washington, DC.

Just sayin' -- you youngsters with college degrees and huge student loans (which are gonna cost you twice what you initially borrowed) are getting non-lubed screwed to historic proportions.

Not knowing minimum wage off hand is a little different than minimum wage being raised or increased by 30 cents.

Furthermore, elasticity of demand does not exist, and has no bearing on prices whatsoever. Prices are always set by underlying cost + fixed margin. If you don't believe that, you are a socialfacimarxikenyacommumuslimist.

Ackbarican_Idol: They missed it by 30 cents, big farking deal.

Give someone on minimum wage that 30-cent raise, then ask them if they think it's a big deal.

Every penny received an hour equals about twenty bucks a year, assuming a 2,000 hour year. That 30 cent "oopsie" means about six hundred bucks a year - an extra rent payment, or perhaps their entire water and sewer bill for a year, or a hell of a lot of food.

And I bet neither of them thought that 30 cents an hour was a big deal, either, as they've probably not had to personally worry about something so trifling in decades, if ever.

I see we have some confusion here, as well.

Regardless, that .30 (or .20) an hour can mean a lot to someone who actually makes minimum wage. To disregard that is to miss more than half the point of a debate about minimum wage.
