Is that the only difference between Android and iOS? I'm switching right now!

I love my Droid so goddam much. My favorite apps so far are: My Pantry, that is basically a click and move shopping list; Safe Neighborhood that tells you where all the sex offenders in the neighborhood are; Every Trail, gives you great hiking ideas and tracks you as you hike and Red Box Codes, it gives you codes to get movies from Red Box for free.

With you on the Droid love

But it gives names, addresses, photos and what crime they committed. I showed it to my girlfriend and it seriously changed the routes she takes when she goes jogging.

Engadget shouldn't have an app at all. Your phone has a web browser. Use it.

It needs more pizazz. Like Antoine Dodson's Sex Offender App (new window)

redpanda2: Engadget shouldn't have an app at all. Your phone has a web browser. Use it.

Yeah, I don't understand the app. The mobile version of their website is essentially the same thing. I guess, though, in the iPhone app you can dial down if you want general, mobile, or HD news.

Gizmodo's mobile site is fantastic too

Yes, you can. Though it's in beta and only a demo.

heh, even though the device isn't publically released yet, the Netflix app for my Windows Phone is awesome.

Streaming movies to mobile FTW.

MusicJunk, Pandora, Aldiko and Battle.net authenticator are the only thing you need :)

Oh, those and the Step Brothers Movie Soundboard...

and the Lightsaber app...

and the Shotgun app...
gaaahhH!

/Netflix app would be nice...

2010-10-26 12:51:28 PM
I like the Engadget app simply since on my news page I can click on the icon and bring it up. Plus, if I am correct it loads all the stories in the background so it even works offline and/or faster than in the browser.

Of course. It makes it so you're not limited just to stealing flash drives (new window). Subby's mom can steal an entire Drobo Elite.

Don't worry subby, the android store has plenty of garbage to take the place of the farting junk.

/Free Angry Birds is nice though
//hate hate hate using the app in place of application
///too young to have a lawn for people to get off damn it

So what are some good games for Android? I looked around and am not impressed so far.

Tried an air hockey one, it doesn't work because your finger is always in the way. The driving ones are too choppy to be enjoyable. And I'm not into solitaire.

The one I found that I like is called "trap".

2010-10-26 02:46:18 PM
Throttlecopter is good, as is angrybirds. Both free.

As an Android app developer, I'm really getting a kick out of these replies....

I just realized that for the "non-pro" version I can have it make a loud fart noise whenever the user does something significant, which should be effective since they will use the app in a public place.

Annoying, yes... but so is busting your hump to make something and not having anybody pay for it.

/No, nothing on the market yet. Just got started a couple of weeks ago (though over 25 years experience as a developer)

Too bad the Android Market sucks donkey balls. They really need to clean it up, let you specify which phone you have, etc.

Awesome App v4.5 comments:
"Works great on my Droid!"
"Freezes on my Incredible, kinda buggy."
"No problems on a Droid, works well."
"I love it, no problems. Using an Incredible."
"Sucks compared to others, no issues on my Droid2."
"I wish they colors were different."
"Great App! But it kinda sucks..."
"It caused my Incredible to explode!"
"Best app ever for the Incredible!"

Linux_Yes: Open Source Software = Freedom

Free...for carries to fark it all up, sure. Android would be a more competitive platform if, like how Microsoft is doing it with Windows Phone 7, Google would enforce hardware requirements and not allow every individual carrier to put their own crappy UI over top of stock Android. It's why we have phones coming out recently that are still running versions of Android that are nearly a year old, and why I'm still waiting for 2.2 on my Captivate when 3.0 is just around the corner.

/still prefer Android to Apple, just saying it could be better
//should really get around to rooting and just be done with all the waiting
