I'm surprised he was able to form words even as he was defecating furiously.

He wasn't in the tornado. He was close though.

"We are close to the tornado" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

One of the things I learned while chasing tornadoes is that when they are ripping shiat up right behind you, all tornadoes are big.

He's got the shaky camera effect down pat.

No, I believe it was "tornaDER." That's the official Texas pronunciation.

There's your problem... we here in the alley are used to them going down the street. Why chase when you can just drink beer in the front yard and let them come to you?

Here's a better article that has the video and an interview with the guy.

And by interesting, I mean "Oh God Oh God we're all gonna die".

Wait.

I'm confused. Are we in a tornado?

/Could you repeat that?
//also, he's lucky he didn't get Darwinned by a airborne car.

I live in Denver now. They rarely drop in front of my place, so I have to go find them. Which is also pretty damn fun. More expensive, but fun.

/Although there was one that trashed a mall in town. That was fun to chase.

Or, as we call it in here in north Texas, "Tuesday".

iirc the rating is based on amount of damage, not the size of the tornado, and this is because many tornadoes are not easily visible due to darkness or rain. if this is the tornado in rice, tx, it may well have been an ef2 (we'll hear today i'm sure), but it did major damage to the jr high school there so that will play a part in its rating

Been through at least 10 different tornadoes here in Houston. It sucks when it goes right over where you live. We have been lucky, as they were in the middle of a bounce over our house.

Happened in our first apartment also at about four in the morning. We woke up to the sound of the tornado going overhead (sounds like a freight train), and you can also tell by the strobing lights.

/been in tornadoes, fires, hurricanes, earthquakes. Not much in the way of Mother Nature scares me any more.

PFFF!!! Here in Oklahoma, we call that a windy day.

/F4 took my trailer.
//Yeah, it was a double wide. What of it?

I recently moved into a neighborhood where a stormchaser for KWTV 9 lives. The other neighbors said "if there's a chance of severe weather, check (what's-his-name's) driveway. If the bright red channel 9 truck is still parked there, you're OK."

Must have been the one close by from last night, i.e. East Texas.

What killed me, besides the repeated "We are IN a tornaduh", was the other cars zipping right by where the damned thing was going...

I lived in F(ar)t Smith, Arkansas, for about 6 years (and yes, I know moving to FL wasn't an upgrade), and got to see more severe weather than I liked. Hail, tornados, snow storms (about 1 every 3-4 years), and more...

Moving down here to FL was an eye opener after that. "Wake me when it's a Cat 2" was a direct quote from someone before Wilma came buzzing over us.

I wish him luck if his insurance company sees that... Dude is a MORON for being that close... 1 properly aligned brick from a house could take out both windshields and his skull...

I know. I was just making the point that there is no such thing as a little tornado when it's getting ready to crawl up your ass. It doesn't really matter if it's throwing cars or just cracking windows, it's not something you want to be right next to.
