I saw this on the news here yesterday, apparently he had 40 broken bones. Plus, he wasn't fat, apparently when they were saying he was a 'big boy' they were referring to his being muscular.

Followup posting on Fark featuring "Man files lawsuit against city for open manhole cover" in 3....2...1...

There used to be a bar up the street called The Manhole. Never went in, didn't seem to be my type of crowd. I don't own any buttless chaps, and I couldn't see myself shopping for them.

60 posts and not a singe TMNT shot or quote even? For shame, for shame.

I wasn't gonna do a GIS either, but curiosity got the best of me and This is what I found NSFW! really, NOT SAFE FOR WORK actually, Not even safe for home I must now, wash my eyes with bleach, and then poke them out with a pencil.

GhostInAJar: Star shaped manhole covers are just fine, until someone loses an eye.

You seem to have mistaken Edmonton for an American city.

Is'nt there a Chick Tract about a guy walking home from a bar a falling into a manhole subsequently dying and is sent to hell for all eternity because he had not accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior.

Does anyone remember the all girl punk band MANHOLE?
I believe they were from Houston. They were a great farking live band.

felixrex99: No, it's real GIS, first page. I could never look at something like that long enough to photoshop it. I can't even "ps" Michael Jackson.

OK, anyone who clicked on TommyymmoT's page is either a masochist, a fetishist, or really, really dumb.

I'm guessing it's the classic photo.

I must be really, really dumb.
But that was certainly no lemon party.

Actually, it's from "Father and Son Day", at my local Church.

Why does it filter that infamous name? gee oh tee ess ee DOT see ex, if it wasn't obvious. If you're thinking about visiting it, make sure you're not at work. You shouldn't do that anyway. You've probably already seen it, though. Oh well. :P

I almost fell down a shaft just like that (except I could see the bottom) at Fort Worden St. Park (Washington).

Storm (and other) sewers are that deep since they operate by gravity. They are deep because:
1. Many buildings have basements, and it's better not to pump. Therefore, sewer is deeper than basement.
2. Grade/elevation of city changes dramatically. Therefore, the sewer might have to be really deep if you are on, say, a hill.

The sewer on my street is 15 feet down. My neighbor had to dig his up to connect his new addition to it. It was one fricken deep hole.

Good - he should sue them

There are a lot of frivolous lawsuits out there. But if my city left a 9 story deep manhole uncovered, and i fell in, i'd sue.

There's no excuse for that kind of negligence

A guy I went to high school with fell down an abandoned mine shaft. It was 90 feet deep, and he broke both his legs and I don't know what else.

He lived, but I think he's in jail now. I heard he tortured and killed someone.

The shaftwas a tight fit

heh heh

From http://www.canada.com/edmonton/story.asp?id=8FBC8380-B6FE-42C6-A949-15345FE159 56

Puder's legs were injured, most likely broken. He couldn't feel them, leading Kocuper to suspect a spinal injury. A shoulder was dislocated. Puder's body had been scraped raw from banging against the sides of the shaft all the way down. He was showing symptoms of hypothermia.

Ouch!
