Still with the "plummet" verb. His approval rating has dropped 4 points in the last year. Yes, quite a plummet. Damned liberal media in the corner for Obama yet again.

At this rate Obama will be unelectable in 2 years.

I think you miss the entire point: that sort of approval drop is exactly in line with most other presidents. It's higher than Clinton or Reagan, and they had no real problems with reelection.

George HW Bush's was extremely high, thanks to the Gulf War, and look how he ended up.

grats corporate media for a job well done -your corporate overlords.

y'know if he'd have just succumbed to their request to not eliminate their Bush tax cut they might not have turned on you so quickly. then again they probably let you win so you could pay the price for the GOP's sins and wash them clean with your blood. then it's back to business as usual starting with the proverbial clean slate.
Born again Republicans

Let me guess: they plummeted all the way from 46% to 45%.

Obama needs to stop trying to win over the looney fringe. Bothering to deny that you are a socialist, elitist Muslim from Kenya will only make them more sure it's true. That should free up time, energy and resolve to appeal more to the people who voted for him.

Unfortunately right now the debate feels like this:

Concerned Citizen: Hey I have ridiculously high insurance premiums, credit card interest rates, low pay, bad job security, and the roads around my house are falling apart. Can you guys in government do something to address that?

Obama: Well gee, yeah absolutely. I mean we need real change. Ok well I got this healthcare reform idea to help get those premiums under control...

Insane Person #1: HEY I THINK YOU WASN'T BORN IN AMURKA!

Obama: Look, its really very simple. I was born in Hawaii. Heres my birth certificate and birth announcement. Now as I was saying, we need to fix the infrastructure and create jobs. I think we can address both by helping states fund shovel ready...

Insane Person #2:HEY THEYS TRYIN TO BUILD A MOSQUE AT GROUND ZERO! YOU GONNA LET EM DO THAT? YOU EVEN A CHRISTIAN?!

Obama: Gee gosh golly guys. I am a Christian, not a Muslim. But Muslims have the right to build their places of worship too. Now about these credit cards. We're going to pass a bill requiring more transparency and notice as the first step of large financial reform and then....

Insane Person #3: SOCIALISM! FACISM! COMMUNISM! NAZI!

Obama: Actually guys, this isn't communism...

Etc.

The frustration for everyone who voted for Obama and the Dems is this A.D.D. that prevails in Washington. Bills are rewritten based on daily polls saying that people do or don't want the public option, the White House can never stay focused because they are constantly refuting nonsense talking points. worst of all, when the White House gets understandly fed up they lash out at their base for being "too demanding". If they weren't trying so hard to respond to the GOP they might actually realize that responding only legitimizes the crazy. Like a badly behaved child people like Beck, Limbaugh and Bachmann should be sidelined and let the adults talk.

I agree completely. It's not the policies or their impotence at solving problems that people are mad about at all. Full steam ahead on all Democratic priorities. Don't change course. Steer further left if possible.

Please.

Politicians can only find meaning in their lives after they have vacated office.

Think about it.

2010-10-21 03:01:07 PM
The two highest on that list at this point in their first term were Bush I and Bush II (69% and 67.3% respectively). Bush I didn't get reelected and Bush II ended his presidency with the lowest approval rating in history (22%). Something tells me these numbers aren't that meaningful.

Never understood that. "Let's rally around the guy who spent the first months of his Presidency on vacation and ignoring security memos and the warnings of the outgoing administration!!!".

I mean, it's kind of like paying the cab driver even after he fell asleep at the wheel and drove into oncoming traffic.

Cyborg77: Bills are rewritten based on daily polls saying that people do or don't want the public option...

This is hardly true. Were public sentiment listened to, whether through polls or whatever, some sort of public option would have been included in the final bill.

Instead we got health care reform that in the end seemed more of a compromise between health insurance companies and crazy teabaggers.

The problem isn't that Washington has A.D.D. The problem is that Washington is inflicted with Asperger's where they can only focus on what corporations want.

Statistically most Americans did support health care reform and financial reform.

Obama's approval rating drops to within MoE of 50%, from within MoE of 50%. Coupled with his previous drop from within MoE of 50% to within MoE of 50%, associated by many with the unpopular health care overhaul bill, and an earlier drop from within MoE of 50% to within MoE of 50% after the auto industry bailouts, would seem to indicate that the public is becoming disenchanted with the man who would have seemed to be the great white hope of the Democratic Party.

/So vote Republican!
