I knew if we waited long enough something good would come out of his administration.

Well, he just won my vote in 2012.

It isn't "Obama's Economy"... it's shiatty, boring races and the championship always being won by the same damn guy no one likes.

NASCAR farked themselves over. They can't go blaming Obama for the car of tomorrow, or cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks, or Jimmie Johnson.

Even if President Obama didn't kill NASCAR, I'll still vote for him in 2012!

/Too bad he's not responsible though.
//What's the point of watching NASCAR races?
///Soccer is far more entertaining and healthier too!

Daytona Experience shutdown = NASCAR take-down? I don't think so Tim.

Yes, but Earnhardt shows you what happens when you lean to the right too much.

Ben Austin covered this ground more completely in last month's Harper's. (new window)

Subscription required, but the short version is: yeah, it's all Jimmie Johnson's fault.

I never understood the allure of NASCAR, but then I listened to an episode of "The Tight End Zone" (hosted by Derrick Thackery, of course) and learned how fun it is to get shiatfaced and go deaf in 100-degree heat while watching cars drive in circles.

/not really obscure

Watching the ESPN 30 for 30 on Tim Richmond last night reminded me of why I used to watch NASCAR - excitement. How did they succeed so well in taking the fun out of it?

Maybe NASCAR should reconsider moving back to where it is culturally relevant. You know, the south, the lower midwest. California? Sheesh.

THIS

But seriously, they should let Cartman out on the track. Seemed like it was the only way to put more than a dent in the #48 car. None of the drivers seem brave enough to do it, or shady enough to bribe a start-and-parker to take him out.

Nah, obama is looking to corner the market - kneegrow Nascar!
All afro-racers will compete in Escalades with 24" rims and
no restrictor plates. Each racer will have a kilo of coke and
one white women in the truck to even the odds.

You... do realize that a few of NASCAR's earliest drivers were people that used to run moonshine, right?

Were I a billionaire, I would have a race where 20 individuals would win or bid for a chance to race 500 miles on a NASCAR track. The catch, they would do it in identical Kia Rios. No pit crew. they'd have to stop at least once for gas and there would only be one fueling point so they'd have to line up.

Winner would get a new car that is not a Kia Rio. The 19 losers would have to keep the Kia Rios.

Yeah. It would be boring but we would liven it up with paint ball turrets that spectators win access to. There would also be 'the stuffed cow' that spectators would throw on the the track at an inappropriate moment. Between that and the lingerie clad ladies hawking beer and food, it should be fun.
