Except our new policy is less about having foreign interests, that would be "Imperialism" and more about attacking the fark out of people, because it's not.

So unless there is some brown peoples there.......uh oh looks like some Igloos are in for some shock and motherfarking awe!

The commander is right. We have important strategic assets on the north slope, as well as controlling a large part of what is going to become a major shipping lane through the Bering Sea. The Exclusive Economic Zone is already crowded with fishing vessels, and we need to control the traffic into and out of those waters. I would like to see more of a Coast Guard presence up there, but it'd suck to be stationed that far north.

A little Ditty you might want to adapt for your next TOD:

It's a damn tough life full of toil and strife
We sailormen undergo.
And we don't give a damn when the gale is done
How hard the winds did blow.
For we're homeward bound from the Arctic ground
With a good ship, taut and free
And we don't give a damn when we drink our rum
With the girls of Old Maui.

(chorus)
Rolling down to Old Maui, me boys
Rolling down to Old Maui
We're homeward bound from the Arctic ground
Rolling down to Old Maui.

Once more we sail with a northerly gale
Through the ice and wind and rain.
Them native maids, them tropical glades,
We soon shall see again.
Six hellish months have passed away
On the cold Kamchatka Sea,
But now we're bound from the Arctic ground
Rolling down to Old Maui.

/will firmly support a law requiring all CG units stationed in the Arctic have an offically designated home port of Pearl Harbor HI

Hey kid , we like your moxie and all, but get real:

Canada's a fine country, brews a decent cuppa joe, and even occassionally havesome watchable sports (that "hockey" game we keep beating you at is kinda cool, and the CFL DID give us doug Flutie and all, and judging by those calendars, curling could be the next bloackbuster sport down here is the uniforms were altered to "All-nude") But Kid, going mano-a-mano with the Russian Navy's a whole 'nother story. Assuming you even have one, it ain't as good as theirs, which is okay though because their's hasn't been able to hang with ours since about 1992 or so.

And don't worry since we are chums and all we'll take care fo the Russians for practically nothing, say , maybe some token gesture like expanding Alaska's border to include a 3 mile wide strip of land from the Bering Sea clear up to Greenland or some such

Ok fine. You can use the Northwest passage through the Bering straight, but you can't go through Canadian Waters. Have fun dealing and trading with Russia.

The Chair Force and Army guys seem to like it up here.

Besides the Coasties wouldn't build a new base in the Bering or on the North Slope, they'd just build up Kodiak

http://www.uscg.mil/d17/ArcticOverview.pdf - bad PDF from the USCG, the US has a pretty big chunk of the Arctic - and it looks like the USCG has been planning for this for at least 3-5 years.

Can get to Europe through the Russian path too with less land mass to navigate around. Regardless, we pay for some new railways up into Canada, finance a couple new ports, and you won't say shiat about us using that side other than, "thank you."

What I'm trying to figure out... why would we use the Canadian side at all? Cheaper, faster, and easier to rail the stuff across the continent and ship it out of New York bypassing Canada entirely going that way.
